[John Bisognano (via Twitter): HOLY SHIT]( I hope youâll excuse my language â I was just REALLY excited when I saw the news that our grassroots movement won huge victories at the Supreme Court in Allen v. Milligan and Moore v. Harper. [These decisions will have major consequences in the fight for fair maps. But before I go into more detail, I have to ask: Will you help the NDRC take advantage of this momentum by making a quick donation to support our democracy-saving work?]( In Moore, the Court issued a resounding rejection of the fringe âindependent state legislatureâ theory, upholding our system of checks and balances and ensuring state courts will continue to play an important role in protecting free and fair elections. And in Milligan, the Court struck down Alabamaâs congressional maps for illegally diluting the power of Black votes. As a result, Alabama will have to draw new maps with an additional majority-Black district before the next election. Attorney General Eric Holder called the decision âa victory for all Americans,â and said it would âhave an impact far beyond the borders of Alabama.â Heâs absolutely right on both counts. Already, another Supreme Court decision has cleared the way for Louisiana to draw new maps adding an additional majority-minority district before 2024. And pending challenges could lead to maps being redrawn in states like Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas. [{NAME}, thanks to supporters like you, our fair maps movement helped secure the fairest congressional maps in a generation ahead of the last election. Now, we have an incredible opportunity to ensure the maps are even fairer in the next election.
