This is a bit of a longer email, so if you’re short on time and you already know how important it is to fight for fair maps ahead of the 2024 election, [you can pitch in to fuel our ongoing efforts to stop GOP gerrymandering at this link!]( Thanks to grassroots supporters like you, our movement has secured some incredible victories recently. - In WISCONSIN, despite millions in spending from far-right donors in an effort to elect their preferred justice, voters made their voices heard by electing Judge Janet Protasiewicz by a commanding margin. A.G. Holder called it “a critical victory for our democracy.” - In PENNSYLVANIA, our grassroots movement helped Democrat Heather Boyd win an important special election, ensuring the state House would remain blue and Democrats will continue to hold the chamber. - In ALABAMA, a recent decision from the U.S. Supreme Court required lawmakers to redraw their congressional maps before the next election to increase representation for Black voters. The ruling could also lead to new maps being drawn in states like SOUTH CAROLINA and GEORGIA. [PITCH IN TO HELP THE NDRC KEEP FIGHTING FOR FAIRNESS!]( But it’s not all good news. As A.G. Holder said, “There are still people who are determined through gerrymandering, through voter suppression, through attacks on our election infrastructure in our nation to try to come up with ways to hold on to power to which they are not entitled.” We’re seeing that play out across the country at this very moment. - In NORTH CAROLINA, Republicans made an unprecedented move by asking the state supreme court to overturn an earlier ruling requiring fair maps – simply because the makeup of the court changed! The GOP’s efforts to remain in power are so extreme that one commentator wrote, “Democracy is dying in North Carolina.” - In states like OHIO and MISSOURI, the gerrymandered GOP legislature is trying to change the rules to make it harder for voters to protect reproductive rights or to overturn abortion restrictions Republicans impose. - In TEXAS, lawmakers passed legislation giving Republican statewide officials control over elections in Houston, one of the state’s most Democratic jurisdictions. The bill is so extreme, it would even allow Republican lawmakers to overturn Houston’s election results. [PITCH IN TO HELP THE NDRC KEEP FIGHTING BACK NATIONWIDE!]( This fight isn’t over until it’s over, {NAME}, and there’s still plenty we can do. We’re working to protect our fair maps progress, prevent Republican map manipulation, and promote fair redistricting across the country – and we need your help to do it! The way we see it, you have two options: - Get complacent and resign yourself to the fact that Republicans are willing to do whatever it takes to gain unearned power so they can impose their extreme, anti-choice agenda. - Or commit to the fight for fair maps and do everything you can to stop GOP attacks on our democracy across the country! [CHOOSE OPTION 2: PITCH IN TO THE NDRC!]( [We’re committed to seeing this fight all the way through. If you are too, then please, pitch in any amount right now to fuel our ongoing efforts to end GOP gerrymandering nationwide.
