These new endorsements add to the twenty-seven state legislature candidates that we had previously endorsed through the Democracy Defenders program. In Michigan, as you already know, we’re already working to elect two phenomenal Supreme Court justices. And now, with this new round of endorsements, we add focus to the state legislature, too, where we’ll help hold the Democratic majority in the House. If Democrats can keep the House, they’ll also keep their Democratic trifecta, which will protect the state’s redistricting reform and allow for more landmark policies to protect the freedoms of Michiganders state-wide. In Minnesota, we’re also working to protect the Democratic trifecta. While Democrats have the majority in the legislature right now, the Minnesota State House is on the line this November. In New Hampshire, we’re working to help win majorities across the legislature. Republicans hold both the Senate and the House — but they have to defend tiny majorities. The House is considered a toss-up and the Senate is within reach. Mid-cycle congressional redistricting is permitted in this state, so the GOP could choose to rewrite their maps at any given moment. Democrats need to win the legislature to put that possibility of mid-cycle GOP gerrymandering to rest. And in Wisconsin, where fair legislative maps are finally a reality, we have a real chance at flipping the State Assembly — our best shot in a generation. For decades, Wisconsin has seen some of the most brazen attempts to manipulate maps for Republicans who have been desperate to hold on to power in the legislature, and their reign has been nothing short of disastrous for democracy in the state.
