The thing that keeps me hopeful and optimistic is understanding our nation's history. There have always been trying times, but when the people unite and work we always win, and democracy is always protected and enhanced. From Valley Forge, to Gettysburg, to Seneca Falls, to Normandy, to Selma, to Stonewall, every generation of Americans is called upon to defend our democracy, and every generation of Americans has done so.
