UPDATE FROM WASHINGTON POST: Biden administration sues Texas over new voting restrictions After Gov.

UPDATE FROM WASHINGTON POST: Biden administration sues Texas over new voting restrictions After Gov. Abbott signed into law one of the worst attacks on voting rights in the nation, the Biden administration has SUED the state of Texas for violating the Voting Rights Act! But the Texas GOP is fighting tooth and nail to defend their shameful voter suppression law and Republicans across the country are pushing similar bills. We need to show them that the American people won’t stand for their attacks on our democracy. That’s why we’re asking 25 supporters from 10016 – including YOU, {NAME} – to stand with Attorney General Merrick Garland and the whole Biden administration against voter suppression. [Will you add your name before midnight to stand with the Biden administration in the fight for voting rights?]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( ***Petition closes at 11:59 PM*** {NAME} – what’s happening in Texas is downright scary. FIRST: Texas Republicans put forth one of the worst attacks on voting rights in the nation. This bill bans 24-hour and drive-thru voting, places new restrictions on mail-in ballots, and empowers conservative “poll watchers” to intimidate voters. And it disproportionately affects voters with disabilities and people of color. THEN: Gov. Abbott steamrolled Texas Democrats, calling a special session to pass this outrageous bill. NOW: Biden’s Department of Justice is SUING Texas for violating the Voting Rights Act! {NAME}, without the protection of the Supreme Court, we need the federal government to help protect voting rights in GOP-led states like Texas. But Texas Republicans are fighting hard to uphold their racist, discriminatory voter suppression law. And Republicans across the country are promoting similar bills! In 2021 alone, they’ve put forth over 425 voter suppression bills in 49 states. We have to show the GOP where the American people stand! That’s why we’re asking 25 Democrats from 10016 to sign the petition before it closes at midnight to stand with the DOJ against voter suppression in Texas, and nationwide!
