In the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned, I signed legislation protecting abortion access – because choice belongs to individuals, not extreme politicians. But Republicans are continuing to come for reproductive rights across the country – including IVF and even birth control. That’s why we will continue to fight tooth and nail to protect them. And that’s also one of the reasons November’s election is so important: states across the country, including Maryland, have a reproductive rights referendum on the ballot. I know Marylanders will vote YES to protect our freedoms this November and together, we will ensure that Maryland is forever a safe haven for abortion access. I have also signed critical gun safety legislation to keep guns out of our schools, government buildings, and health care facilities because I’ve seen the effect of gun violence in our communities. Despite being immediately sued by the NRA for working to keep my state safer, I’m not going to back down and let them win. That’s the difference Democratic governors can make for our progress. And with Donald Trump running against President Biden, Democratic governors are more important than ever. Much like Trump, dangerous Republican candidates for governor are running across the country with the promise to roll back the clock and erode reproductive rights and rip away our health care – and that’s just the start.
