This is what our AGs have been up to since we lost Roe. {NAME}, On this day in 1973, the United States Supreme Court guaranteed the constitutionally protected right to abortion through its ruling in Roe v. Wade. Now, 51 years later, that federal right has been stripped from people across this country after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Less than two years after that ruling, half of all U.S. states now have anywhere from some restrictions on abortion access all the way to a complete bans on abortion. Republicans have made it clear it’s one of their top priorities to control patients’ bodies and strip away every ounce of reproductive rights they can get their hands on. Now they’ve taken to the judicial system, asking courts to decide on the legality of mifepristone (a commonly used, safe, FDA-approved form of medication abortion), tracking patients who receive care out of state, prosecuting doctors who provide abortions, and more. That’s why it has never been more important to elect reproductive rights champions as our states’ top lawyers. Fighters like Kris Mayes, who’s challenging her states’ 1864 abortion ban and won her election by only 280 votes. Those are the kinds of margins we’re used to here at DAGA. 280 votes can be the difference between preserving and losing reproductive access across an entire state.
