Trailblazers

Not only are these women trailblazers in their field, but they’re also fighting for the rights of women across the country. [Democratic Attorneys General Association]( {NAME}, Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of women across the world, as well as recognize the long way we still have to go in order to reach true gender equality in this country. In that spirit, we want to highlight some of our current history-making Democratic AGs: - Andrea Campbell is the first Black woman to hold statewide office in Massachusetts. - Charity Clark is the first woman ever to be elected as Vermont’s Attorney General. - Ellen Rosenblum became the first woman Attorney General in Oregon's history when she was elected in 2012, and also the first Jewish person elected Attorney General of Oregon. - Kris Mayes is the second woman elected as Arizona’s Attorney General and the third openly lesbian AG in the U.S. - Kathy Jennings is Delaware’s second-ever woman Attorney General. - Dana Nessel is the first openly LGBTQIA+ person elected to statewide office in Michigan, and also the first Jewish person elected Attorney General of Michigan. - Letitia James is the first Black person and first woman to be elected Attorney General in New York. Not only are these women trailblazers in their field, but they’re also fighting every single day for the rights of women across the country. As the right to access abortion medication has come increasingly under attack by the GOP, Democratic AGs have taken legal actions to protect and expand abortion access. Oregon AG Rosenblum said, “We have brought this lawsuit because what we believe in is access to health care. And we believe that abortion is health care.” And Arizona AG Mayes also announced that she is “getting ready to stand up a reproductive rights unit” in her office. While Republicans continue to trample on abortion rights, Dem AGs are fighting back — but they can’t do it alone. [We’ve got to elect more to join the ranks of these history-makers.
