{NAME}, Following the Inflation Reduction Act becoming law, we have seen a whole lot of fear-mongering and lies from Republicans about the IRS, just take a look at some of the lies they've said and what the truth actually is: THE LIE: Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy: “Democrats' new army of 87,000 IRS agents will be coming for you — with 710,000 new audits for Americans who earn less than $75k.” The TRUTH: According to The Treasury Department, people and small businesses making under $400,000 per year will see no change, while audits of corporations and high net-worth individuals will rise. The LIE: Senator Ted Cruz on the creation of 87,000 IRS agents "They’re not being created to audit billionaires or giant corporations. They’re being created to audit you." The TRUTH: The funds given to the IRS will help cover a wide range of positions, from IT technicians to taxpayer services support staff, and to auditors focused on wealthy tax evaders. The bottom line is that the increased funding for the IRS “would return audit rates to the levels of about 10 years ago,” according to the Congressional Budget Office. This means we can finally make the ultra-rich and corporations begin to pay what they owe, but we must combat the dangerous misinformation Republican extremists are spreading about the IRS. [Demand social media companies, including Facebook, crack down on Republican lies and disinformation about the modernization of the IRS.]( [Take Action]( Already, we’ve seen how when disinformation goes unchecked it can foment violence. From the deadly January 6th attack on our Capitol to recent threats and violence against FBI agents following the raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. This dangerous disinformation is what millions of Americans see and hear whenever they go on social media and it has to stop. [With Republican lies about increased funding for the Internal Revenue Service intended to scare American taxpayers and incite even more violence, demand all social media platforms immediately crack down on Republican lies and disinformation about the IRS.]( Please take action and stand up to right-wing propaganda today, thank you. - Tre Tre Graves Digital Organizing Coordinator Democracy for America --------------------------------------------------------------- With a deadline at midnight on Sunday, this is one of your last chances to get your VOTE shirt before the November elections.
