{NAME} -- Less than 1% of the prosecutors in America are Black women. Last year, DFA members helped elect Aramis Ayala -- a powerhouse who ran on progressive values to become the first Black State's Attorney ever elected in Florida history, and the first woman to serve as a State Attorney in Orange and Osceola counties. Since taking office, she's governed how she campaigned: fighting for urgently needed criminal justice reform, restoring more power to the people, and recently taking a heroic stand against the death penalty in a key caae As a result, Republicans are launching a new attack against her. Florida's Republican Governor, Rick Scott, is attempting to remove her and replace her with a white prosecutor on that case. Gov. Scott is punishing Ayala for her leadership and disrespecting the will of the voters in the process. We have to stop him. [This is URGENT: a final decision could be made within the next couple days. We need to move fast. Will you join DFA and Color of Change to tell Florida Governor Scott: Reverse your decision and let Aramis Ayala do her job.]( Aramis Ayala's decision isn't just about the death penalty. White conservatives like Gov. Scott are terrified of Black political power, and they're doing anything they can to undermine it. Prosecutors offices are critical battlegrounds in the movement for Black lives. When bad prosecutors keep a stranglehold on political power, they uphold wrongful convictions, cover up police brutality, and enable a toxic culture of white supremacy and systemic violence against Black communities. When strong, accountable leaders replace those bad prosecutors, as Aramis Ayala did in her November victory against Jeff Ashton, and as DFA-endorsed State's Attorney Kim Foxx did last year against Rahm Emanuel's lackey in Chicago, we can together help make urgently needed progress in the fight for racial justice. Governor Rick Scott's vendetta against Aramis Ayala is part of Republicans' longstanding push to make it as hard as possible for people of color to participate in democracy. Republicans won't stop trying to block progress. We need to stand with our allies right now. [We must stop Gov. Scott's attack on a Black prosecutor. Will you join DFA and Color of Change to demand Gov. Scott stop undermining and attacking Aramis Ayala?]( Thank you for standing with Aramis Ayala and the voters who elected her. - Annie Annie Weinberg, Electoral Director Democracy for America [DONATE]( Paid for by Democracy for America, and not authorized by any candidate.
