{NAME}, When Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act 8 decades ago, Americans understood that it was our responsibility as a nation to protect the elderly and ensure all of us can retire with the financial resources we need to live out our retirement with dignity. This common understanding about its benefits and how it helps all of us has made Social Security one of the most successful government programs ever created. But Congress has not increased Social Security’s benefits in 5 decades and this presents an enormous problem because even as Social Security serves over 60 million Americans every year, we still have millions of seniors living in poverty. DFA members have been at the forefront of the fight to expand Social Security for years and right now, we can improve the lives of millions of Americans by simply making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into Social Security. [Joe Biden ran on it and Democrats have the levers of power needed to act. Tell Congress to strengthen and expand Social Security and ensure millionaires and billionaires start paying their fair share.]( [TAke ACtion]( It has never been more important to stand up for not only maintaining but expanding Social Security so that all seniors can enjoy a dignified retirement. For 1 in 6 beneficiaries, Social Security provides more than 90% of their income, and for 45% of Black, 52% of Latinx/Latines and 41% of Asian American seniors it provides all or nearly all of their income. The success and popularity of Social Security are why it continues to be a target for Republicans and their puppet masters. Under Trump, the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration was openly hostile to it. They'll continue to do everything they can to undermine and weaken it. We must be proactive by taking every single effort to strengthen and expand Social Security while we hold the power to do so. [Tell Congress to strengthen and expand Social Security and ensure millionaires and billionaires start paying their fair share.]( [TAke ACtion]( Thanks for powering our work to protect and expand Social Security. — Tre Tre Graves Campaign Organizer Democracy for America --------------------------------------------------------------- Following the guidelines of the CDC and public health officials by wearing a mask is the perfect way to show that you care about your fellow Americans and are willing to do your part to keep them safe from the delta variant.
