{NAME}, In the past few weeks, Trump’s racism has grown all the more obvious with his vile attacks on the Squad, stoking hatred and even threats to the lives of progressive women of color in Congress. He’s continued those attacks on another person of color in Congress, this time setting his sights on civil rights champion Representative Elijah Cummings, who Trump called “a brutal bully” for speaking out against the deplorable conditions of the migrant border camps. Trump’s animosity and racism was on full display when he tweeted that Cummings’ district is a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess… [a] very dangerous and filthy place” where “no human being would want to live.” As I said on the Powerhouse Roundtable on ABC News This Week with George Stephanopoulos, “It’s shameful, it’s inexcusable, and it’s the same thing.” It’s racism, plain and simple. There’s a pattern here, {NAME}. Trump is using the same kind of racist tropes and stereotypes we’ve heard throughout history, demonizing people of color and painting them as dirty, dangerous, and subhuman. It’s downright despicable, and the GOP should be ashamed to stand silently by him. We cannot let the President of the United States get away with such blatant, ugly racism, and we at DFA are doing everything in our power to build the movement to impeach this bigot from the White House, and elect more progressive leaders to office who will hold him accountable in the meantime. He is dehumanizing immigrants and people of color, and then attacking anyone -- particularly women and people of color -- who stand up for them. Not to mention, he is horrendously insulting the very people he was elected to represent. How are the people of Baltimore, especially children, supposed to feel when their president describes their home, their city that way? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we cannot let Trump get away with this. DFA is working day in and out to remove Trump from office whether it’s through impeachment or at the ballot box in 2020, and we need your help to make it happen.
