Hi {NAME} -- Senator Jeff Merkley here. I’ve partnered with Democracy for America on important issues and moments in the past, from filibustering Donald Trump’s first Supreme Court pick, to working to elect a progressive president –- and I was thrilled to have your support in those fights. Today I’m reaching out about another critical fight facing us today: as we speak, President Trump is blatantly attacking the very existence and identity of transgender Americans, and it’s up to us to stop him. [Take a minute to join me and Democracy for America in rejecting this administration’s latest attack on transgender Americans: add your name now.]( It started with his July 2017 ban on transgender individuals serving in the military, a slap in the face to those brave service members and veterans who put their lives on the line for our safety. In Oregon, we rallied against this despicable, discriminatory move. But now, Trump took another massive step to erase transgender individuals when a leaked memo from his administration revealed their intent to revise the government’s definition of gender, forcing transgender Americans to legally identify with the sex they were assigned at birth. This move threatens the very identity and existence of transgender individuals, and it’s up to us to stand in solidarity with them and fight like hell to stop this. That’s where you come in. [Will you join me and Democracy for America by adding your name to reject the Trump Administration’s cruel and disturbing efforts to erase transgender Americans now?]( Transgender individuals deserve the same protections as any other American. That's why I’ve been working to pass the Equality Act, a comprehensive civil rights bill protecting LGBTQIA+ Americans from discrimination. But until we have a Congress that’s willing to defend all Americans by passing this legislation, we the people must rise up and defend those being wrongfully attacked by this president and his administration.
