{NAME} -- Two new polls confirm that Democrat and civil rights leader Doug Jones has a real shot at defeating the radical white supremacist Roy Moore in the upcoming special election to fill Jeff Sessions's U.S. Senate seat in Alabama. The first poll, by Decision Desk HQ, has Moore up by just 5 points, 50% to 45%. The second poll, by JMC Analytics and Polling, has Moore up by 8 points, 48% to 40%. Both polls not only show a close race -- they also show Moore is at or below the 50% mark, meaning he's vulnerable. This is going to be an uphill battle. But as DFA's Electoral Director Annie Weinberg explains in the email below, if Democratic Party candidates run authentically on their values, prioritize and invest in voters of color, and build strong grassroots organizing operation, we can reverse the right-wing trend. Doug Jones took on the KKK and won. Roy Moore is a radical extremist who was kicked off the Alabama Supreme Court twice for his hateful views. We have to stop Roy Moore -- and support Doug Jones. [We must stop Roy Moore from going to the U.S. Senate. Chip in $3 or more to help DFA elect Doug Jones in the Alabama special election!]( Thank you for helping to build progressive power in the South. - Robert Robert Cruickshank, Senior Campaign Manager Democracy for America ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Annie Weinberg, Democracy for America Date: Thu, Sep 29, 2017 at 9:29 AM Subject: Doug Jones vs. Roy Moore {NAME} -- [Help Doug Jones win the Alabama special election]( is an urgent call to action: we have to stop Roy Moore from winning the special U.S. Senate election in Alabama. What's exciting is with civil rights leader and progressive Democrat Doug Jones, we have a real shot at victory. White supremacy is not new in American political life -- after all, this is Jeff Sessions's old seat. Even in this environment, Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore is a doozy: - Moore claimed that President Barack Obama wasn't a U.S. citizen. - Moore believes Muslims should be barred from serving in elected office. In 2006, Moore wrote an op-ed calling on Congress to refuse to seat Keith Ellison because Ellison is Muslim. - Moore's foundation hosted pro-Confederate "Secession Day" events in 2009 and 2010. - Moore was thrown off the Alabama Supreme Court twice for violating the constitution in order to discriminate. The first time was for attempting to enforce Christian worship in government spaces. The second time was for flouting Supreme Court's marriage equality ruling in order to discriminate against LGBTQ people. - Moore believes "homosexual acts" should be illegal and LGBTQ people thrown in prison. - Just this month Moore said "there's no such thing as evolution." That's just the tip of the iceberg as to how extreme Moore is. But this isn't just about Moore being terrible. It's also about supporting a candidate who has shown a lifelong commitment to racial and economic justice. Democracy for America is supporting Doug Jones's run for U.S. Senate not just because his opponent is unfit to serve -- but because he has the progressive track record the Democratic Party needs in this key Senate race in the Deep South. [We must stop Roy Moore from going to the U.S. Senate. Chip in $3 or more to help DFA elect Doug Jones in the Alabama special election!]( Doug Jones has spent his life fighting for racial and economic justice. He comes from a union family of steelworkers and miners. He grew up working class in Fairfield, Alabama, and went to law school because he wanted to be a part of the solution in working for a more just, free, and equitable country. As a civil rights attorney, Doug Jones successfully won the long-overdue conviction of the KKK members who murdered four little Black girls -- while they were attending Sunday School -- in the 1963 bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. Jones prosecuted notorious domestic terrorist Eric Rudolph for the bombing of a local women's clinic, and has been a staunch supporter of reproductive rights and women's rights throughout his life. He's unafraid and unapologetic about his core values of racial and economic justice. [Roy Moore would be horrifying in the Senate. Doug Jones would be great. The future of our country is at stake in this special election. Chip in $3 or more to help DFA and Doug Jones win!]( Alabama is a red state, but a majority of its voters are not on board with Moore's extremism. Polls have shown this is a single-digit race. But winning is going to take a lot of work -- especially to overcome traditionally low voter turnout and Republican vote suppression. More importantly: Alabama voters have an opportunity to be a part of the moral urgency of this political moment. Like the rest of the South, the Alabama electorate is changing -- more people of color, more young voters, more working families. For too long Alabama voters, particularly voters of color, have been taken for granted by major party institutions as candidates prioritize chasing the white, right-leaning "swing" vote above everyone else. But we know that if Democratic Party candidates run authentically on their values, prioritize and invest in voters of color, and build strong grassroots organizing operation, we can reverse the right-wing trend. Doug Jones understands this, and can build that kind of campaign -- with our help. [It's going to take all of us and a Democratic, KKK-fighting civil rights attorney named Doug Jones, to stop Roy Moore from becoming the next U.S. Senator from Alabama. Will you help? Chip in $3 or more to elect Doug Jones in Alabama!]( Thank you for joining this crucial campaign. - Annie Annie Weinberg, Electoral Director Democracy for America [DONATE]( Paid for by Democracy for America, and not authorized by any candidate.
