Sign a letter to your legislators opposing bills to open up the Arctic to more oil and gas drilling! ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [Defenders of Wildlife] [ACT NOW]( [Polar Bear Cubs and Mom (c) Peter Norvig]( Tell Your Senators and Representative to Oppose Bills that Open Up the Arctic to More Oil and Gas Drilling! Dear Defender, The Arctic is in danger – we need you to raise your voice to defend it! Congress is considering new legislation that would expose protected habitat in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (“Reserve”) to expanded oil and gas leasing. Those natural areas contain some of our country’s most valuable intact wildlife habitat. You can help by urging your legislators to oppose “Alaska’s Right to Produce Act” to save polar bears, caribou, migratory birds and many more animals! [Sign today: Tell your senators and representative to oppose H.R. 6285 and S. 3289 to stop the expansion of harmful oil and gas development!]( Defenders has been fighting to protect the Arctic for decades. Now we’re ringing the alarm on this latest threat. In 2023, the Biden administration canceled a series of oil and gas leases mandated by the previous administration, protecting the Arctic Refuge from being sold off piece by piece. Biden also proposed a rule that would protect vital wildlife habitat in the Reserve. Now Congress is taking up legislation that could erase those protections and transform these irreplaceable landscapes into noisy, polluted oilfields. It’s urgent that we build up opposition to those destructive bills in Congress before the industrialization of the Arctic becomes law. Contact your legislators today and tell them you oppose rolling back protections for wildlife and habitat in the Arctic Refuge and Reserve! [OPPOSE NEW OIL AND GAS PROJECTS IN THE ARCTIC!]( This is an important moment in the decades-long journey to protect the Arctic and reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Thank you for joining us and using your voice to defend these natural treasures.
