We’re sounding the alarm – help us reach our ambitious Orca Month goal of $25,000 by June 12. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [logo header with donate button]( [Young J-Pod Southern Resident Orca © Katie Jones]( Defender, Now, those same whales are starving to death and teetering on the brink of extinction. Orca Month is here, and it’s a wake-up call to the crisis that threatens to wipe out Southern Resident orcas and the Chinook salmon on which they depend for survival. We’re raising the alarm to save these animals from extinction before it’s too late. In honor of Orca Month, we’re setting an urgent goal of $25,000 to protect imperiled orcas and other wildlife! [There are only 74 Southern Resident orcas left – you have the power to save them from blinking out of existence. Pitch in to our Orca Month fund today!]( Defenders is identifying, and fighting, to stop threats that are pushing orcas, salmon and other marine life over the edge. - Chinook salmon populations – the primary food source for these orcas – have been decimated by human-made disasters like pollution and outdated dams that choke their rivers. - Toxic runoff and pollutants are poisoning these orcas and weakening their systems – and their young, developing calves are especially vulnerable. - The climate crisis is heating up salmon-bearing rivers to record highs, throwing entire ecosystems out of balance and further reducing the Southern Residents’ scarce prey. [SAVE THE ORCAS: PITCH IN NOW!]( Southern Resident orcas are crying out for our help – we can’t let them be starved and poisoned into extinction. We still have time to stop the destruction of this entire species. Our experts are on the ground in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, pulling out all the stops to save orcas, salmon and all the wildlife who need our help. [You can join them by lending your support. Make your gift in honor of Orca Month and be one of the heroes saving Southern Resident orcas from disappearing!]( Thank you for your dedication to protecting our wild world.
