We, the American people, as always, must stand up for our democracy by voting in defense of democracy this fall — and electing candidates who will protect our fundamental freedoms, not rip them away. That's precisely why I'm writing to you in support of Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who is running to defeat Rick Scott in Florida. Republican politicians like Rick Scott, and the whole of the far-right extremists in Florida, have supported gerrymandering and tactics to suppress votes — all in an effort to undemocratically cling to power in the Sunshine state. By contrast, Debbie supports measures that would make it easier to vote, plain and simple. We cannot have a Senate controlled by extremists like Rick Scott who would shred our democracy by creating roadblocks to voting. He is once again spending millions of his own personal fortune in an attempt to buy an election and prevent Democrats from maintaining the Senate majority. With polls showing Debbie in a statistical dead heat with Rick Scott, she can win, but only with major grassroots support.
