Alright…I’ll take a pause so you can go back and think about your life choices and how different they might have been if you made all of your decisions with your head…💖 Waiting… Waiting… Waiting… Ooph…ya, life would be a lot different, right?! I am in so many business conversations in which people talk about how they are going to market their product. If they could just get across that their product had better features than their competitors, they would win. Or, if they could just show how much cheaper their product is than their competitors…Or, just do a better job of giving a product tour. Or…the list goes on. But, here is the reality…most of us, despite knowing that it might not be the best way to make a decision, make a lot of choices with our hearts. I think this is pretty obvious, but what isn’t obvious is what you do about that. If people make decisions with their hearts, then maybe you should stop talking about your features and start talking about how a certain product will make your customers feel better or get more excited about their workouts or their jobs or their meals. This is nothing new…in fact, there is a whole bunch of great stuff stuff on this topic and a whole marketing catchphrase of “emotional marketing”...Here is a start: [Stats]( on how well emotional ads perform Emotional marketing [explained]( [Examples]( of emotional marketing Some [tips on getting started](with emotional marketing A [great guide]( to emotional marketing All of this might be obvious so far, because we have seen the Nike commercials or the Apple commercials. But, those are giant companies and none of us have millions to spend to pay some fancy ad agency to create commercials for us. So, to get started…start with one emotion. How can you start to make your customers feel “happy”? If you are an e-commerce company, maybe send them something goofy with every shipment or a handwritten note. Or, how can you make your customer feel “included”? Maybe start a customer slack to share updates and get ideas or have meet ups for your customers. Or, how can you make your customers feel surprised? Maybe have your team call a few customers on their birthdays and sing “Happy Birthday!” 🎂 And, if all that sounds like a little too much, well maybe the thing is to just be authentic in all that you do and always do what you say. That’ll earn you trust and that is one of the most important emotions of them all.
