Battle lines form up on China exports

Battle lines form up on China exports                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 August 11, 2023 | [Read Online]( Dawn Report August 11, 2023 The Biden Administration has imposed a new executive order designed to restrict advanced technology from being exported to China. It could have big consequences for NVDA and other tech companies… Nvidia and AMD, among others, are in a brutal competition to develop new chips that can be used in the development of AI. Now, the Biden Administration has already prevented the sale of advanced equipment that can be used in the production of semiconductors from being sent to China. That’s why arguably the most important company in the world is a little known company called ASML out of the Netherlands… perhaps the only company that can produce such equipment at scale. The crackdown on Chinese technology is one of the major factors that could be dragging down Beijing’s economic growth… An economic decline that has shocked many experts and upset so many of the predictions about a so-called “Roaring Twenties.” But can you really freeze out China without it bouncing back on the United States? NVDA, AMD, and other companies could suffer one of their biggest export markets being cut off if the Biden Administration takes the broadest possible view of restrictions… There are a few weeks while “public comment” is available… Look for a lobbying campaign like we have never seen. The future of the world economy could be at stake. Get What’s Yours, Jeff Bishop WORD ON THE STREET Devastating Fires In Hawaii Kill Dozens… At Least - 53 People Dead And Counting - It’s the largest natural disaster in Hawaii’s history - wildfires continue to spread in Maui island, destroying the town of Lahaina. While there are 53 confirmed fatalities, many more are likely to have died, with the death tool possibly rising into the hundreds. - Welcome To The Era Of Private Spaceflight - Virgin Galactic Holdings successfully completed its first private spaceflight, taking the first mother-daughter duo into space, as well as a former Olympian who is 80 years old. All passengers returned safely. - Supreme Court Blocks Opioids Deal - The Supreme Court temporarily blocked a settlement deal with Purdue Pharma that would protect the wealthy Sackler family from personal liability from lawsuits over OxyContin and other drugs. The Supreme Court will decide later in the year if Purdue can emerge out of bankruptcy with a new name - and profits that will be dedicated to fighting opioid overdoses. - More Mixed Signals From Fed - San Francisco Federal Reserve President Mary Daly said “there is still more work to do” when it comes to controlling inflation. She argued inflation remains the “number one concern” of Americans but said it was too soon to say if she would push for another rate hike. HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Biden Calls China A “Ticking Time Bomb” - President Joe Biden said that China’s struggling economy poses a possible security risk. “They have got some problems,” he said. “That’s not good, because when bad folks have problems, they do bad things.” No word on what China thinks about being called “bad folks.” - Russian Ruble Collapsing - The Russian government has been able to support its currency in the face of ruinous economic sanctions - but perhaps for no longer. The Russian ruble hit a 16-month low against the dollar. The Bank of Russia has halted foreign currency purchases for the rest of the year “to reduce volatility,” but most experts think this is just the beginning of the country’s problems. - Iran, USA Swap Prisoners - Iran moved four American prisoners closer to freedom, getting them out of a prison and moving them into house arrest. Negotiations to free five Americans in total are moving forward… but Iran also has something to get from the deal, namely millions of dollars in oil funds that have been frozen. CUTTING EDGE: What['](s Happening In Tech - Microsoft To Be Grilled In Cybersecurity Inquiry - A cybersecurity panel will investigate Microsoft and other companies in searching for solutions to security risks presented by cloud computing. The Cyber Safety Review Board may be forced to take on the challenge from Senator Ron Wyden to hold MSFT “responsible for its negligent cybersecurity practices.” - Robotaxis Expand In San Fran - Cruise and Waymo will be able to offer commercial robotaxi services in San Francisco 24 hours a day after a 3-1 vote by the city commission. It’s a victory that comes despite mounting opposition in the city, including scattered incidents of robotaxis “bricking,” or freezing in the street. - The Everything App - It’s the question we’ve all been asking. WHY RENAME TWITTER TO X? Linda Yaccarino, who is now in charge, says it comes from Elon Musk’s desire to create the everything app. “The rebrand represented really a liberation from Twitter,” she said (apparently with no self-importance.) “A liberation that allowed us to evolve past a legacy mindset and thinking… It’s going to change how we congregate, how we entertain, how we transact in one platform.” FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION “All of this is creating downward pressure on gold.” China is suffering deflation. India is suffering a food crisis. America is jacking up interest rates. What does this mean? Bad news for gold. Mr. X explains. [PRECIOUS METALS DECLINE AS INTEREST RATES BITE]( Enjoying Dawn Report?
