Crew Suits (including some wools)](#2) - [5 Favorites – Dappered Contributor & Reader Eric H.](#3) [Chinos, Chukkas, Polo #7 – Monochrome & Extra Cool for the Heat](r/Dappered/~3/FAzcZ9mTQ74/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 26 Jul 2017 03:00 AM PDT Chinos, Chukkas, and a Polo is our ongoing series out to prove the benefits of this simple combination during the warmer months. There’s a million ways to do it, the benefits are numerous and significant, and it can be executed at all levels of style budgets. [Head here for a further explanation of why this combo works](, and [click here for the growing archive](. Got a suggestion for Chinos, Chukkas, & a Polo? Send those into [joe@dappered.com](mailto:joe@dappered.com?subject=chinos chukkas and a polo). The Polo: [GAP “Breathe” polo in “new heather grey” – $22.40](//www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1035147&pcid=5225&vid=1&pid=720920012) w/ MORE. Skip the cotton polos when it’s 100 degrees. They’ll never dry out. Instead, go for a tech fabric that looks clean and mean (meaning, no sportswear logos or goofy patterns.) 77% Polyester, 18% Lyocell, 5% Spandex and built to be super breathable and lightweight. Straight fit. Want to get real spendy, real quick? Try [the lululemon “Evolution” polo]( (yes really.) Spendy as hell at $88, but super soft, extremely breathable, made from “anti-stank” fabric, and has hidden buttons under the collar points to keep your collar in line. The Chinos: [GAP Lightweight Slim Fit Performance Khakis in Light Grey – $39.10](//www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=80811&vid=1&pid=529039042) w/ MORE. More GAP here, because these pants are game changers. These are performance stretch nylon. Super lightweight, super breathable, and they’re quick drying. They make a bit of a “swish” noise while walking, but it’s really nothing annoying or all that noticeable. And the comfort is incredible. This pale, dove grey will bounce the sun’s rays off your thighs too. [Also available in a straight fit](//www.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=640155022). The Chukkas: [Wolverine Marco Chukka – $180](//www.zappos.com/p/wolverine-marco-chukka/product/8817287). Made in Portugal. Does go on sale from time to time [over at Amazon]( (they’re out of stock now.) Low profile lug sole is slim but still provides good grip. Super comfortable insoles. Feels true to size. The Sunglasses: [Warby Parker Ellison – $145]( An investment, but these things nail that updated clubmaster look. Polarized lenses too. Want something cheaper? [Try these from Suncloud](. The Watch: [Orient Ray II Automatic – $170ish](. One of the best bang-for-the-buck divers on the market. Waterproof, and therefor, sweat proof. Don’t like the reflection you get when wearing a stainless band in the bright sun? Swap it out for a NATO strap. The Belt: [J. Crew Cotton Web Belt – $11.99]( FINAL w/ WEDNESDAY. A little color, a little stretch. Lots of comfort. Limited sizes. Final sale. The Briefcase: [Tumi Alpha Bravo Andrews Slim Briefcase – $230.90]( ($345). Perhaps we’re taking the monochrome thing a bit too far here. Nice case though. Over $100 off thanks to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Ships and returns for free. The Underwear: [Ex Officio Give-N-Go Breathable Brief in Charcoal – $14.96](. Underwear of choice when it’s swamp-crotch weather. These breathe, wick, and dry quickly. The Socks: [Nordstrom Merino Blend Mid-Calf Socks in Navy – $12.50]( Might as well throw a little color in here. ff/Dappered?a=FAzcZ9mTQ74:-u6-_K6G3WQ:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=FAzcZ9mTQ74:-u6-_K6G3WQ:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=FAzcZ9mTQ74:-u6-_K6G3WQ:gIN9vFwOqvQ [Steal Alert: 30% off Select J. Crew Suits (including some wools)](r/Dappered/~3/xCbOgSHWiow/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 25 Jul 2017 09:32 AM PDT [TUESDAY = 30% off Select Items]( (exp. 7/25) J. Crew has been doing some discounting on their suits as of late. Check that… their suit jackets as of late. If memory serves, many of these suit jackets have been up for 25% off or 30% off select item discounts in the past few weeks. But it’s the pants, that oddly, have been left at full price & excluded. Not so today. If you scroll down through [this 30% off select “every day items” sale]( you can find the suits. And the pants are included this time around. That’s great news for plenty of guys who don’t fall into standard nested suit “drop” zones (where a jacket and pair of pants are married, and you can’t choose a smaller or larger pant). For those types, suit separates like these can be a life saver. Or at least, a thigh/glutes saver. Code TUESDAY expires today, 7/25/17. [Ludlow Italian Stretch Worsted Wool Jacket]( & [Pant in Grey or Blue – $417.20]( ($596) [Ludlow Italian Stretch Worsted Wool]( The star of this sale show. A dependable wool suit with a half canvas construction in either a light grey or a medium (but not overly bold) blue. Extra stretch in there for movement too. With this sale, they’re now going for just about what a Suitsupply Blue Line would go for. Remember, [don’t forget the pants](. These are separates. Non functioning sleeve cuff buttons on all of these jackets make for easy tailoring. [Ludlow Italian Stretch WIDE Lapel Worsted Wool Jacket]( & [Pant in Grey – $417.20]( ($596) [Ludlow Italian Stretch WIDE Lapel Worsted Wool]( Same fabric as above, just with a more traditional, 3″ wide lapel. Sidenote: J. Crew’s button stance is lower than most Suitsupply jackets. Some guys prefer that slightly lower slung stance, since it shows a bit more shirt, and thus, the body seems to be broken up closer to the “rule of 3rds” visual sections that are pleasing on the eye. Napoli jackets from Suitsupply can sometimes, but not always, look constricting on some frames. No blue option here. Just the grey. [Ludlow TRAVELER Wool Suit Jacket]( & [Pant in Navy or Grey – $417.20]( ($596) [Ludlow TRAVELER Wool]( And here be the traveler collection. It’s a special 3-ply wool woven specifically to resist creasing. Plus, unlike the standard Ludlow wool jackets, these are lightweight and only half lined. They honestly feel noticeably more breezy than standard suit jackets (and pants). Some guys like that, some guys don’t. [Ludlow Italian Wool/Linen Suit Jacket]( & [Pant – $319.20]( ($456) [Ludlow Italian Wool/Linen Suit]( A summer suit, through and through, but has enough lightweight wool woven in to keep it from getting too wrinkled with wear. It’ll still wrinkle, but, that’s part of linen’s charm. Scattered sizes here. Could easily see the jacket being used as a stand alone sportcoat with white pants. [Crosby]( or [Ludlow Cotton Sportcoat in Caspian Blue – $152.60]( ($228) [J. Crew Cotton Sportcoat in Caspian Blue]( Not a suit, but still worth a mention. Hugely versatile. All Italian cotton. Crisp without being stiff. A shade of blue that’s interesting but doesn’t shout. Unlined. Walks the line between dressed up and dressed down perfectly. [A terrific warm weather blazer that can absolutely pull duty in the cooler months]( if you’re good with a jolt of (subtle) color. [Ludlow Italian Chino Suit Jacket]( & [Pant – $319.20]( ($456) [Ludlow Italian Chino Suit]( Crisp Italian chino in a classic warm weather shade. Partially lined = a plus. [Ludlow Italian Chino Suit Jacket]( & [Pant – $319.20]( ($456 ) [Ludlow Italian Chino Suit]( Same suit as above, just in a deep blue. [CROSBY Italian Chino Suit Jacket]( & [Pant – $319.20]( ($456) [CROSBY Italian Chino Suit]( Annnnnnnnnnd same suit as above, only in their more generous, athletic cut “Crosby” fit. More info on that fit [can be found over here](. [Ludlow Italian Cotton Oxford Suit Jacket]( & [Pant – $382.20]( ($546) [Ludlow Italian Cotton Oxford Suit]( NOT the same as the chino suits above. Oxford cloth this time, only, in an unexpected “deep water blue” shade (usually oxford cloth suits come in light blue or grey). Oxford cloth wears somewhere between chino and linen. Not as stiff as chino, but not as wrinkly/light as linen. For a lot of guys, it’s a perfect mid point when it comes to summer suiting. The 30% off select items code TUESDAY expires, you guessed it, today… Tuesday 7/25/17. ff/Dappered?a=xCbOgSHWiow:U7MKWMifa84:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=xCbOgSHWiow:U7MKWMifa84:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=xCbOgSHWiow:U7MKWMifa84:gIN9vFwOqvQ [5 Favorites – Dappered Contributor & Reader Eric H.](r/Dappered/~3/Ymn7qxqRYIg/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 25 Jul 2017 08:00 AM PDT Sure it’s just stuff. But stuff can make life easier, more enjoyable, etc… Every so often we ask one of our favorite, style-appreciating people to rattle off their five favorite things. Sometimes those things will fit into the realm of “affordable,” and sometimes they won’t. We’re going for the favorites here. Whether you realize it or not, you most likely already know Eric H. as the “All -Star” contributor to our [weekly Dossier]( (just look for the [All Star graphic](). When Eric isn’t surfing the web for weird, random, or interesting articles, he can usually be found on the trails in and around Houston mountain biking or trail running. He’s also no stranger to mixing up cocktails, searching out craft beer specials, or hitting his kitchen in order to make dinner (something different every night if possible). He loves hanging out with his wife in their backyard, and they’re no strangers to opening nights at the [The Museum of Fine Art](. A product photographer and graphic designer by day, this translates to a discriminating eye with movies, clothes, shoes, watches and architecture. You can find more of Eric on his [Twitter account](. [RTIC 17oz Stainless Steel Insulated Bottle – $14.99]( [RTIC 17oz Stainless Steel Insulated Bottle]( Everyday I put two cans of sparkling water into a large bottle, add a couple of drops of fruit bitters, and take it to work to help keep myself hydrated. Problem was my old plastic self sealing container was getting moldy up in the self sealing half and was a pain in the ass to clean. Did some searching and found this Houston, TX area company was making some insulated, all stainless steel bottles at a very attractive price. I like this even better than the plastic bottle as it now keeps my sparkling beverage colder longer, plus it’s a snap to clean. [Nordstrom 1901 Hastings Wingtip Suede Shoes – $99.95 – $110.00]( [Nordstrom 1901 Hastings Wingtip Suede Shoes]( I purchased several suede 1901 wingtips from Nordstom of varying browns before settling on these grey ones. Guess what… they go with everything. New favorite shoes. Feel super comfortable and they have lasted well beyond the amount of care I’ve taken of them, i.e. none. Worth every penny. Unfortunately they’re currently sold out, likely due to the Anniversary Sale, but hopefully they’ll be back in stock soon? [Wahl Lithium Ion Clipper – $56.99]( [Wahl Lithium Ion Clipper]( It was about 10 years ago that I made a hair style change and went to a buzz cut #1. At the time I got the cheapest Wahl clippers I could find at Target. A big old clunky version that plugged into the wall. Recently this monster gave out and it was time for a replacement: Enter the Wahl Cordless clippers. Fits in my hand comfortably. Has no cord and will clip for the entire time I need it to. Me…so much happier. Also includes a small battery powered trimmer for your beard or the nether regions. [Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 – $42.00]( [Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30]( Living in the South and spending a good amount of my free time in the sun, I schedule a yearly dermatologist appointment. This year they discovered the beginning of some mild rosacea on my face. With that they also told me, “Sun is the enemy of rosacea, so now you MUST wear sunscreen on your face…everyday.” I mistakenly thought I’d be having to put my heavy duty stuff on my face everyday, when my wife informed me that there is style of sunscreen called “daily wear”. Effective and lighter and easier to put on. Enter the City Sunscreen Serum from Supergoop! in San Antonio, TX. Here’s why I like it: It’s a pump that squirts out a small metered amount, perfect for one quadrant of my face. It goes on smooth and not greasy. It’s SPF 30. And it doesn’t have oxybenzone which is bad for your skin. Yes, it’s a bit pricey, but I know that it’s the best thing out there for what I need. And can you put a cost on your health? [Misen Essentials Set – $95.00]( [Misen Essentials Set]( I had some Chicago cutlery I had gotten years ago that was doing a poor job of cutting my veggies. First saw a review of the Misen knife (then on Kickstarter) by [Kenji on the Serious Eats website](. It’s professional level without the pro level price. Wife recently made a gift of the chef’s and paring knife to me and it’s been incredible. I can’t tell you how much more confident and easier it has been to prepare veggies and everything else I need to cook. Wish I had done it sooner. ff/Dappered?a=Ymn7qxqRYIg:SwRTZ_DmaQg:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=Ymn7qxqRYIg:SwRTZ_DmaQg:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=Ymn7qxqRYIg:SwRTZ_DmaQg:gIN9vFwOqvQ You are subscribed to email updates from [Dappered Style Mail]().
