[Dappered | 5 Favorites – Dappered Contributor & Reader Dave I.]() --------------------------------------------------------------- - [5 Favorites – Dappered Contributor & Reader Dave I.](#1) - [Quick Picks: Bonobos 25% off select / extra 25% off sale items](#2) - [Style Scenario: Vacation to the Desert South](#3) [5 Favorites – Dappered Contributor & Reader Dave I.](r/Dappered/~3/1FlEj9gHX5o/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 28 Jun 2017 03:00 AM PDT Sure it’s just stuff. But stuff can make life easier, more enjoyable, etc… Every so often we ask one of our favorite, style-appreciating people to rattle off their five favorite things. Sometimes those things will fit into the realm of “affordable,” and sometimes they won’t. We’re going for the favorites here. When not riding his bike, going for a run, or lounging on a patio enjoying a pint of craft beer, Dave I. is busy surfing the web checking out various menswear forums of which Dappered enjoys the majority of his time. Also, as an owner of a cat who frequently sleeps in his lap when at the computer, this means Dave gets to spend even more time than any human should surfing the web. In short, Dave is typical of the Dappered audience. Travels the globe when money and time allows. Reads as many books possible. And pays close attention to his style. Oh, and he’s written [his fair share of posts for the main site as well](. As is always the case with our 5 Favorites series, nobody is paying us to be featured ([which is our standard policy](,) and we determine who gets a spot. To ratchet up the difficulty level for those participating who happen to represent a men’s style company on some level (CEOs, designers, owners, etc.,) those types are allowed to pick just one item from their place of work. #1. Rolex Explorer II – too much! [Rolex Explorer II | Dappered.com] I realize a Rolex is not a watch for everyone. To be honest I never saw myself wearing a Rolex either. But when the stars aligned and the opportunity to purchase a used/vintage Rolex Explorer II presented itself, I jumped at it. And wow, this is one nice watch. The Explorer II has quickly become my go-to watch for work and for a night out on the town. Heck it even makes it on my wrist during weekends when the Timex Weekender or the Casio MDV106-1A used to see the majority of wrist time. The versatility of the white face and silver oyster bracelet of the Explorer II means the watch pretty much goes with anything. Most definitely one of my better purchases. #2. [Every Man Jack, Aveda, and Dove skin care products – $6.99 and up]( [Men's Skin Care | Dappered.com]( I credit a former girlfriend with getting me interested in taking better care of my skin. While the relationship came to an end, my love affair with improved grooming did not. Starting with Dove face wash and Every Man Jack face lotion to keep my face looking nice, and ending with Every Man Jack body wash and Aveda body lotion, I do my best to keep old-age at bay by looking after my skin. Oh and for those days when I need to wash my hair, as I find washing it daily dries it out, Every Man Jack shampoo handles the job nicely. #3. [Allen Edmonds McAllisters – $395]( [Allen Edmonds McAllister]( While I have several different pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes, the McAllisters are my favourites. To my eye they combine style, elegance, and casualness all in one fantastic looking shoe. Some people might say McAllisters are not to be worn with a suit in a formal environment, yet I’ve worn them in all types of settings and never been worried. #4. [SoundBot SB571 Bluetooth Speaker – $19.95]( [Soundbot Bluetooth Speaker | Dappered.com]( I love this speaker. Best $20 I’ve ever spent. The sound quality is fantastic. The battery life unbelievable. And the ability to carry this small yet powerful speaker with me all around the house while I stream music or podcasts is just awesome. #5. [Black Butte Porter]( and/or [Rogue Hazlenut Nectar]( [Black Butte Porter | Dappered.com]( Hops? Who needs them? Give me a dark, malty beer with hints of chocolate and coffee any day. Deschutes’ Black Butte Porter hits all those points making it one of my favourite dark beers. Or, if I’m looking for something a little less dark – is there such a thing? – Rogue Brewery’s Hazlenut Brown Nectar is my go-to. If only I could find it on tap a little more often. ff/Dappered?a=1FlEj9gHX5o:3sRT2hCUrxI:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=1FlEj9gHX5o:3sRT2hCUrxI:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=1FlEj9gHX5o:3sRT2hCUrxI:gIN9vFwOqvQ [Quick Picks: Bonobos 25% off select / extra 25% off sale items](r/Dappered/~3/WjTnEXy59hc/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:00 PM PDT [HAPPYHOUR = 25% off Select Items & Sale Items]( So. How’s that looming sale to Walmart [going over with your fans?]( Oh. Anywho. Been a while since Bonobos ran a code that was applicable to at least some of the full price section. And when your wheelhouse, flagship washed chinos cost $88? Those of us on the value minded side appreciate the bone thrown our way every now and then. The sale section at Bonobos can be a bit… cluttered. So, we separated wheat from chaff below. Both select full priced and already marked down goods are included in the picks. And as always, there has to be at least a decent size selection at post time (which isn’t an easy task when it comes to their sale section). Code HAPPYHOUR expires tomorrow, 6/28. [Jetsetter Italian Wool Blazer in Bright Navy – $300]( ($400) [Bonobos Jetsetter Italian Wool Blazer in Bright Navy]( Y’know how we’re always saying that wool is better than cotton? Even in the warmer months? Right. So this “bright” navy blazer might be just the trick to [execute any of these looks in the coming months](. 98% wool, 2% stretch, and it appears that the back is unlined? Or perhaps just butterfly lined? Non functioning sleeve cuff buttons make for easy tailoring. [Washed Chinos in Bucking Blancos]( or [Pickelbacks – $66]( ($88) [Bonobos Washed Chinos]( Just two shades of their non-stretch, regular ol’ washed chinos get the 25% cut, but, it’s summer and those Bucking Blancos could come in real handy. [Right Thomas?]( [Washed Chinos in Grey]( or [Rivieras – $51]( ($88) [Bonobos Washed Chinos]( And now, washed chinos that are already on sale, and thus, cheaper than the duo above. Seems like it’s just this grey and blue pair that have any decent sizes left though. [The Unconstructed Summerweight Blazer – $270]( ($450) [Bonobos Unconstructed Summerweight Blazer ]( 58% Wool, 40% Silk, 2% Elastane and unlined. Has a tiny, micro-check pattern to it. No standard fits available. Just their slim. [Stretched Washed Chinos in Blue]( [Light Blue]( or [Pink – $73.50]( ($98) [Bonobos Stretched Washed Chinos]( Back to the full price section. More expensive than their flagship pants, but they do come with 2% stretch woven in for added comfort. [Summerweight Shirts in Chambray Dot]( or [Fish Print – $66]( ($88) [Bonobos Summerweight Shirts]( Not sure how I feel about paying sixty six dollars for a button down. Pretty sure it’s not a good feeling though. But, at least these aren’t just plain ol’ button downs. They’re purposely made to be lighter and crisper for the summer months. And the patterns aren’t something you’d find just anywhere either. Still. Feels like a lotta’ dough for a shirt made by [a company about to be acquired by Walmart](. [Jetsetter Jean in Indigo Dark Wash – $133.50]( ($178) [Bonobos Jetsetter Jean]( Good heavens those are expensive. But, I’d say they feel a little better than Banana Republic’s new Rapid movement denim (and they better for the price). They’re somewhere between BR’s Traveler Jean, and the Rapid Movement denim. And, they come in a multitude of fits (tailored, slim, athletic, and straight). 92% Cotton / 6% Poly / 2% Elastane. [Stretch Oxford Shirts in White]( [Blue Stripe]( or [Blue – $51]( ($88) [Bonobos Stretch Oxford Shirts]( There’s no elastane or other stretchy material in these things. They claim it’s the weave that provides “natural” stretch? Really? Well, at least the Bonobos slim fit is a decently slim fit, and thus, is better than many other cheap OCBDs out there. [The Jetsetter Italian Knit Blazer – $210]( ($350) [Bonobos Jetsetter Italian Knit Blazer]( Knit. That’s the key word. So more like a sweater/blazer hybrid. Has almost a bit of a marled look to it? Fabric make up is 48% Wool, 42% Nylon, 5% Poly, and 5% Cashmere. [Jetsetter Jean in Resin Rinse – $111]( ($178) [Bonobos Jetsetter Jean]( Same jeans as has already been mentioned, so plenty of stretch, but the saturated Resin Rinse has been picked over in terms of sizes. It’s not just extreme sizes left, but, there’s just not a ton there at post time. [The Unconstructed Italian Wool Blazer in Brown – $300]( ($400) [Bonobos Unconstructed Italian Wool Blazer]( Cannot say enough good things about these sportcoats. A loosely woven Italian wool, barely there construction, and the only thing that’s lined is the sleeves. Just the brown is up for the discount, but that’ll do just fine with white chinos and a pale blue shirt this summer, and then will look great with jeans and an OCBD come the fall. This 25% off select items, and an extra 25% off sale items code HAPPYHOUR ends tomorrow, 6/28/17. Meanwhile, I’m not really sure when the sale to Walmart will be finalized? ff/Dappered?a=WjTnEXy59hc:Rdu6Dp-UADw:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=WjTnEXy59hc:Rdu6Dp-UADw:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=WjTnEXy59hc:Rdu6Dp-UADw:gIN9vFwOqvQ [Style Scenario: Vacation to the Desert South](r/Dappered/~3/pYcuLnoPld4/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 27 Jun 2017 09:00 AM PDT What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Over the next several weeks we’ll be tackling some vacation based Style Scenarios, whether that vacation takes you out to the beach, into the mountains, or cruising the desert. Travel season is upon us, so we’re making some suggestions on how to spend some down time feeling comfortable while looking good. This time, we’re heading south into the desert, where hot, dry heat is the name of the game. The Shirt: [BR Linen Stretch Polo in White – $50.99](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1086403&pcid=10894&vid=1&pid=485737022) ($59.95). We’re going with lighter colors and fabrics to deal with the inevitable heat that comes with desert climates in the summer. So a white, almost all linen polo (with a hint of stretch) is the perfect call. Spendy for now, but if you’re a card member, you can get it down to $30.59 with the code PERK. The Shorts: [Old Navy Broken-In Khaki Shorts for Men in Frozen Mist – $15](//oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=504064092&rrec=true&mlink=5050,12413545,onproduct2_rr_4&clink=12413545) ($24.94). Inexpensive and very well reviewed. Plus, that icy blue shade is a nice but still cool way to break from the khaki rut so many guys fall into. The Belt: [J. Crew Cotton Belt in Navy Stripe – $30]( w/ SUMMER ($45). A heavy leather belt would look out of place here… because it’s heavy. Go with something fabric and textured. The Watch: [Seiko SNK809 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch with Black Canvas Strap – $54](. Speaking of skipping leather, when it’s brutally hot, stick with watch bands that’ll breathe and not soak up your sweat. More info on this watch [can be found over here](. The Sunglasses: [Ray-Ban 0RB4187 Square Sunglasses – $125](. Rubberized, so they’ll stay put even if the bridge of your nose gets sweaty. The Socks: [Smartwool No-Show Socks – $13.95](. Wool > Cotton. So much better than cotton, especially when it comes to managing sweat. The Shoes: [Sperry Wahoo LTT Sneaker – $54.95]( Breathable, lightweight canvas kicks for the dead of summer. The Shade: [Glory Hats by Goorin ‘Killian’ Fedora – $35.]( We [don’t typically push hats around these parts](, but when lower latitude sun exposure can be high, having a hat on hand for protection isn’t a bad idea. And in conditions like these, you can get away with it. The Sun Protection: [COOLA Organic Suncare SPF 30 Cucumber Face Sunscreen Moisturizer – $32](. The body sunscreen of choice on this site is [Titanium Dioxide sunscreen]( which is typically kid’s sunscreen. (It doesn’t contain Avobenzone, which if it gets on your clothing, can react to hard water and turn to rust in the washing machine, thus causing stains.) But if you want something lighter for your face that won’t leave that greasy sunscreen slick behind, Coola’s sunscreen moisturizer is a good bet. The scent is pleasant and light, and it won’t clog up pores like some heavier sunscreens can. ff/Dappered?a=pYcuLnoPld4:ip6SUp1hSpk:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=pYcuLnoPld4:ip6SUp1hSpk:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=pYcuLnoPld4:ip6SUp1hSpk:gIN9vFwOqvQ You are subscribed to email updates from [Dappered Style Mail]().
