[Dappered | In Review & Win It: The Q Timex 1978 Reissue]() --------------------------------------------------------------- - [In Review & Win It: The Q Timex 1978 Reissue](#1) - [Style Scenario: Chinos Chukkas Polo – Black, gray, and brown](#2) - [10 things a well dressed guy might worry others think about him](#3) [In Review & Win It: The Q Timex 1978 Reissue](r/Dappered/~3/pl5H8SES3bY/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 20 Apr 2021 03:00 AM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. It DOESN’T have the loud Timex “tick” almost all their other quartz watches have. It does. not. have. the. tick. The “tick” that drives so many crazy (while those of us who are half deaf after a few decades of earbuds use don’t really notice that “tick”), the fact is: that loud tick noise just isn’t there. [Q Timex 1978 Reissue Watch]( 1978 is the name, but Mad Men vibes are its game. And not to sound hyperbolic, but it’s pure class. That’s what it is. It’s the direct mid-point between [their Marlin hand wind]( and [their Milano Quartz](. Goldilocks stuff. The ’78’s 37mm in diameter cushion case wears great even on average to thicker wrists, but it’s still slim, lean, and “classically” sized. Yet it’s bigger than the tiny Marlin (34mm), all while being noticeably more svelte than the Milano (38mm). Again, just right. [Q Timex 1978 Reissue Watch]( 37mm case size, but wears surprisingly solid even on average to thicker wrists. It borrows plenty of purposeful styling details from the Marlin. Tall domed crystal. Mercury-silver-tone face. Texture to that dial too, although the sunburst of the Marlin is traded in for a very, very subtle vertical etched look. Think the grooves on a vinyl record. But again, it’s subtle. You have to tip the watch to see that texture easily. [Q Timex 1978 Reissue Watch]( Tall, domed, “period correct” acrylic crystal. [Still slides easily under a shirtcuff](. Dial is really well balanced with the “Q” stacked on top of the TIMEX branding at 12, a proud QUARTZ at six, and a day AND date window at three. [Flip it over]( and you’ll see the coin-slot battery hatch for easy battery changes, and quick release pins on the soft, matte leather strap for easy strap change outs. If you wear brown shoes/belts more, and want to match, then fear not. This thing would look great on a dark brown leather band. Quality of the “genuine leather” is… fine. Not amazing. Seems pretty processed. But it truly is soft right out of the box. Good to not have to fight against some rigid piece of cardboard-like-junk. [Q Timex 1978 Reissue Watch]( Next to [the 44mm Casio Diver]( for comparison Yes, $170 isn’t cheap for a quartz Timex. Hardly. But it looks and feels a noticeable step above many of their other watches. Especially those that ARE saddled with the loud “tick”. Slap a different brand on the face and they could easily charge more. Throw a dependable mechanical or automatic movement in there, along with a fancy name on the dial, and the price would skyrocket (although shoehorning a mechanical in the case would be tough at these proportions). [Q Timex 1978 Reissue Watch]( Mercury-silver-tone dial. Bit of subtle vertical texture to the dial. It’s simple. It’s clean. It’s pretty darn perfect for someone who [wants to be a “one watch guy”]( who’s also on a budget. Fingers crossed that this thing isn’t excluded from codes and promos. The every-so-often 25% off discount codes Timex runs on their site would drop this to $126.75. That feels like a steal-level-price for something that looks, and honestly feels this good. [Enter here to win]( the Timex Q 1978 shown in the post above. One entry per person. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm ET 4/21/21. Winner will be notified by email. In regards to the giveaway, I’d like to thank myself for trying on the watch not as gently as I should, and the end result being a leather band with just enough wrinkling to it that now it’s probably not returnable. Plenty of wear left for you though. It’s just not mint anymore. That, and I’m feeling generous. [I love you](. You’re welcome. Tell all your friends about Dappered and we’ll call it even. Or don’t. I get that too. [Q Timex 1978 Reissue Watch]( ff/Dappered?a=pl5H8SES3bY:7VjHvH1a_Go:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=pl5H8SES3bY:7VjHvH1a_Go:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=pl5H8SES3bY:7VjHvH1a_Go:gIN9vFwOqvQ [Style Scenario: Chinos Chukkas Polo – Black, gray, and brown](r/Dappered/~3/5u2TOWMo4SE/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 19 Apr 2021 02:00 PM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Chinos, Chukkas, and a Polo [is our ongoing series]( out to prove the benefits of this simple combination during the warmer months. There’s a million ways to do it, the benefits are numerous and significant, and it can be executed at all levels of style budgets. [Head here for a further explanation]( as to why chinos, chukkas, and a polo works. [Click here for the growing archive](. Got a suggestion for Chinos, Chukkas, & a Polo? Send those into [joe@dappered.com](mailto:joe@dappered.com?subject=chinos%20chukkas%20and%20a%20polo). [Style Scenario: Chinos Chukkas Polo black and brown 2021] (here comes the magic & deal stacking with the Chukkas and Chinos… read on) The Chukkas AND Chinos: [Brooks Brothers Made in Italy Field Chukkas in BROWN](//www.brooksbrothers.com/Field-Chukka-Boots/MH00369,default,pd.html) ($149/$298) + [Brooks Brothers Slim-fit 5-pocket Tech Pants](//www.brooksbrothers.com/Slim-Fit-Five-Pocket-Tech-Pants/MR00596,default,pd.html?) ($59/$118) = $158 total ($416). Everything is on sale (the boots for $149, the tech pants for $59) and stacks up with their currently running $50 off $200 promo. Would be just $149 for the boots alone, but with that $50 off $200, you get BOTH the boots and the tech pants for nine bucks more. Ships free too, being that it’s just barely north of $150. Got all that? [Magic](. Deal ends 4/20/21. So, time is short. Shown at the very top of the post is a pair of [Luluemon Warpstreme Commission pants in their dark gray “obsidian”](, and a pair of [Sanders Hi-Top chukkas]( in snuff suede. The Polo: [Banana Republic Slim or Standard Fit Luxury-Touch Polo – $26.70]( ($44.50). Always a favorite. Cotton that’s glass smooth and almost cool to the touch. Leans towards dressed up. Certainly not a slub or rumpled t-shirt fabric polo. Nicer than that. Some have reported shrinkage issues with these. So, be careful with how you wash and dry them. The Sunglasses: [Sunski Treeline Polarized Sunglasses – $89](. Yes these have glare/glacier shields. No, no one is suggesting you wear the shields in the summer, off the ski slopes. But they’re magnetic, and easily pop off. Once they do, you have a terrific pair of dark tortoise shades with a keyhole bridge. Nifty. The Jacket: [Banana Republic Vegan Suede Bomber – $107.40]( ($179). BR’s vegan suede jackets are amazing. Flat out. [Full review of a previous brown and blue color block option can be found here](. Review on this all black option are 5/5 stars… after 111 reviews! The Watch: [Seiko 5 Sports Automatic Black NATO – $200ish](. Seiko’s new-ish release into the diver market sure looks the part. [Full review here](. Shown at the top of the post is an old, [out of production Seiko SNZJ](. The NATO Strap: [Crown & Buckle Supreme Nato 22mm Black & Desert Stripe – $34](. Nothing beats the Supreme Nato from Crown & Buckle. They’re just that good, and a noticeable step above (both in quality of the strap AND hardware) compared to cheaper NATO strap manufacturers. “Desert” tan stripe gives a bit of a nod towards the warmer weather ahead. The Socks: [Bombas Merino Wool Socks – $19](. Medium weight here with great cushioning. Once we hit summer probably best to go with something lighter in weight, but these are as good as it gets for 3 season wear. The Belt: [GAP Basic Belt in Brown – $30ish](. To many, boring is bad. [And that’s bad](. This belt gets mentioned all the time and thus, is boring. But it’s anything but bad. Dark brown ties the black and gray together. Want more of these Chinos/Chukkas/Polos outfits? [Head here for the archive](. We’ll be rebooting this series as the warm weather rolls on with currently available items. [But this is the archive]( if you want it. ff/Dappered?a=5u2TOWMo4SE:yrovkhxp-RE:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=5u2TOWMo4SE:yrovkhxp-RE:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=5u2TOWMo4SE:yrovkhxp-RE:gIN9vFwOqvQ [10 things a well dressed guy might worry others think about him](r/Dappered/~3/Ax1UR2zj2oQ/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 19 Apr 2021 08:00 AM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Also, we take your privacy rights seriously. Head [here]( to learn more. We all know a brash guy who proudly says “well I just don’t care what anyone thinks about me.” And that’s fine. But it’s almost certainly false. Because humans are programmed to desire at least [tacit approval and acceptance](27s_hierarchy_of_needs) from other humans. It’s part of the reason why a lot of us put some effort into dressing well. It helps in that area. Yet that axe can swing both ways. Because being a human is hard. Here are ten thoughts that might run through a well dressed guy’s head. And know that it’s okay. - I hope they don’t think I’m shallow. - I hope they don’t think I’m arrogant. - They must think I spend money foolishly. - They must think I’m just dying to have them ask me about my clothes. Or my shoes. Or my watch. And I really, really would rather talk about anything else, and I know that’s the last thing they want to talk about too. Please, please let me think about something other than the weather. Don’t talk about the weather. NO YOU JUST MENTIONED THE WEATHER. - I wonder if they think I think they’re underdressed. That I think everyone should dress just like me. - They must think [I’m a player](. - They must think I’m trying to compensate for being incapable. That I can’t do this. Even though I can. - They must think I want to be the center of attention, even though all I want is to be respected enough to be acknowledged but mostly left alone. - They must think I’m totally self absorbed, and don’t realize that the world can be a harsh, violent, terrible place, and that by simply being able to put on this (suit, shirt, pair of shoes) I’m luckier than 99.9% of all humans that have ever existed, past or present. And that fact sparks both immense gratitude as well as an overwhelming, paralyzing sense of shame and guilt. Like, who am I? Who do I think I am, to dress myself like this? - I hope they don’t think I’m worried about what they think. ff/Dappered?a=Ax1UR2zj2oQ:1agEuJZDu-E:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=Ax1UR2zj2oQ:1agEuJZDu-E:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=Ax1UR2zj2oQ:1agEuJZDu-E:gIN9vFwOqvQ You are subscribed to email updates from [Dappered Style Mail]().
