That’s what these are for. Less is, often, more. Going for a mod-like, monochrome look here, all while remaining contemporary and comfortable. This’d be a great way to reacclimate to dressing with a bit of intention, without going full suit and dress shirt. Y’know, [if you’ve been on the sidelines for a bit in sweats/athleisure](. [Modern Mod Style Scenario 2021] The Sweater: [Jos. A. Bank 100% Extra Fine Merino Cardigan Sweater – $39]( ($55). Nice price for a pretty smart looking cardigan. Sweater at the top of the post is actually the gray body/black tipped option [from TheTieBar](//www.thetiebar.com/product/GFS-5181-0174), which happens to be sold out (d’oh). If you want that tipped look, there’s [this USA Made option on Amazon]( (albeit not nearly as subtle). If you’re good with a solid and don’t want to lean on Jos. A. Bank, there’s always [the ol’ Goodthreads Standby](. The Pants: [Bonobos Stretch Washed Chinos in “Asphalts” – $99](. Or whatever your favorite pair of darker gray chinos happens to be. Fingers crossed Bonobos does a sale sometime soon. They’ve been VERY quiet in the promos/codes front lately. Kinda weird. The Sunglasses: [Ray-Ban RB4175 Oversized Clubmaster – $90](//www.jomashop.com/ray-ban-rb4175-877-57.html). Sticking with the retro but still contemporary theme here, with a pair of sunglasses from Ray Ban that lean on their [original clubmaster](, but look more modern thanks to a sleeker frame and a larger overall size. These are a great option for guys with medium to larger faces who dwarf the smaller leaning original clubmaster. The Watch: [Invicta Men’s Pro Diver 40mm Stainless Steel Automatic Watch – $80](. Or… whatever [your favorite diver]( happens to be. The Polo: [Banana Republic Luxe Touch Polo in Black – $22]( ($44.50). The Luxe Touch from BR works perfect here, thanks to the dressy smooth fabric and dark buttons. Buttoning the top button completes the look. The Socks: [Bombas Merino Wool Sock – $19](. Bombas are legit. Their merino wool socks are high-quality, durable, breathable, and have just enough cushioning. Perfect for this style scenario. The Shoes: [Clarks Original Desert Boot in Dark Brown Suede – $130](. There’s a misconception that gray and brown can’t go together. [They 100% can](. They don’t ALWAYS go together, but here, the matte texture of the suede goes GREAT with the dark charcoal of the chinos and the medium gray of the sweater. It all balances out. Now, does a dark charcoal suit go with a light tan dress shoe? No. Not really. But as you can see above, this isn’t that. This works. The Belt: [Gap Basic Leather Belt – $27]( ($39.95). Gets mentioned all the time… because it’s kinda the perfect casual to smart casual belt. Often on sale. ff/Dappered?a=Abswy4DYsgg:CFBeJ_rDlXA:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=Abswy4DYsgg:CFBeJ_rDlXA:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=Abswy4DYsgg:CFBeJ_rDlXA:gIN9vFwOqvQ [The Best in Affordable Style from the Month that Was – February 2021](r/Dappered/~3/JOJCZ6C_Vj4/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:00 PM PST Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. It gives us all a good gauge as to what is good, and more importantly, what is not good, going forward. Sure, the “[clip show](” is mostly a cheap (affordable?) device to create new content out of already published stuff. But it’s also a good way to catch up in case you missed something. So [cue the flashback music](. Here’s the very best from the month that was… [Best Sale: Huckberry’s Annual Winter Sale (expired)]( [Huckberry menswear]( Super fun. Gear that’s built to perform and look good at the same time, with some generous discounts since we’re coming to the end of winter and heading towards spring. Plus a lot of it shipped and returned for free. [Best Steal Alert: DSW’s Wolverine 1000 Milers for $140 – $175 (expired)]( [Wolverine 1000 milers]( Didn’t know what to think of [this deal]( when it first popped up on the radar, but [ArmedFerret]( took a swing, and he ended up with some made in the USA, Horween leather boots for $140. They aren’t a subtle brown or black, that’s for sure. But that’s a lot of boot for $140, and there were more color options for those who wanted to blend in a bit more. [Best Post for the “Less is More” Crowd: The Best Simple Affordable Watches for Men]( [Orient Watch]( Seventeen simple, daily-dress watches across a variety of price points. The kinda watch your Pops or Granddad used to wear, everyday, with every thing [Most Wheelhouse Style Scenario: The “Danny Ocean”Â]( [Danny Ocean Style Scenario]( Speaking of simple. That’s it right there. Certainly not complicated. But man almighty does it look super sharp in the right situation. If you don’t fancy yourself a “tieless” kinda guy, put on a grenadine or knit silk tie here. Still simple. Still all kinds of right. [Most Surprising Retailer Mentioned: Walmart]( [Walmart Camo Quilted Jacket]( Haven’t really spilled a lot of digital ink on Walmart because, it’s Walmart. BUT. [They’ve now got a line]( that’s trying to compete with Target’s Goodfellow & Co. There were some hits! There were some misses. That’ll happen. [Best Post for the WFHers: Blue Light Glasses Roundup]( [Blue Light Glasses]( If you have nightmares about not mute-ing yourself on Zoom, then this post is for you. For those who are glued to a screen all day every day. For what it’s worth, I have a pair of blue light glasses I use at night when working on this website of which you’re reading right now, and they do seem to cut down on eye strain/sleepless nights, etc. [Best Drumming Outfit: Andrewg on Threads]( [Andrewg teaching drums]( Cords? Slim (merino?) tactleneck? Navy blue mask that perfectly compliments the earth tone cords and the sharp gray of the blazer? DON’T HURT ‘EM TEACH. [Most Welcome, Overdue Debut: Athletic Tapered BR Traveler Jeans]( [Athletic Tapered BR Traveler Jeans]( Been like, what, 10 years in the waiting? [Most Useful Post: 10 Skills to Master for a truly Stylish Home]( Cleaning. Hanging pictures. Mixing patterns. A super useful post to lean on (thanks Sarah!) when you decide you want not just your clothes, but also your home to reflect your own personal sense of style. [Most Unsure Pup: Jason’s Dog Lucy]( [Lucy the dog]( Lucy’s not sure about [that sweater](. That’s for sure. I mean. [Most comfortable chair: Stone and Beam Chesterfield]( It’s even more comfortable if you actually sit in it! Part of the [Hoodie and Sneakers without looking sloppy]( style scenario. That one was divisive. Some were all about it. Some thought it was a bridge too far for what Dappered normally does. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [Least Comfortable Photo Shoot: Style Scenario: Late Winter Northern Lights]( Unsurprisingly, it was cold. Best [Lodestar](: The Box Shot in [Adam’s Shoe Reviews]( We all need things to depend on. Some… human once emailed me to complain about the box shots in [Adam’s]( (excellent) shoe review posts. As in “those pictures of the shoe box in the free content I’m consuming are too much for me to handle. They are a burden to my delicate scrolling finger. I don’t want the box shot. Please stop giving me the box shot.” Yeah well, you’re now getting one for the rest of eternity. [Smartest Style Related Business Idea: Enso Rings]( [Enso Rings]( Most silicone rings look like (wait for it) silicone rings. But if these things, which are “infused with precious metals” actually look a bit more like a metal ring in person? All while providing the safety and comfort that silicone provides? That’s genius. Straight up genius. Especially because they are SELLING A BIT OF SILICONE FOR FORTY DOLLARS. Listen, my goofball arse ponied up the forty bucks. [It’s brilliant](. And I wish I would have thought of the idea first. [Most “it’s still winter” post: Style Scenario: It’s still really freaking cold]( Baselayers. Wool jackets. Cable knit sweaters. Insulated gloves that actually look kinda good and not like puffy ski gloves. It’s all in there. [Springiest Sweatshirt: J. Crew Sunfaded French Terry Sweatshirt – $69.50](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/sweatshirts_sweatpants/pullovers/lightweight-sunfaded-french-terry-sweatshirt/AL962?color_name=manor-blue) //www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/sweatshirts_sweatpants/pullovers/lightweight-sunfaded-french-terry-sweatshirt/AL962?color_name=manor-blue I don’t know how a sweatshirt can be springy, but, that one somehow manages it. Seven colors to pick from. And kudos to J. Crew for making me sorta kinda want a $70 sweatshirt (more like a $40 sweatshirt with the frequent codes). I mean, it’s a freaking sweatshirt. Maybe I’ll wear it with my $40 silicone ring. Feeling Nostalgic? [Here’s the archive]( containing previous editions of Best of the Month that Was. ff/Dappered?a=JOJCZ6C_Vj4:N3Sp_WDjOxw:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=JOJCZ6C_Vj4:N3Sp_WDjOxw:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=JOJCZ6C_Vj4:N3Sp_WDjOxw:gIN9vFwOqvQ [J. [GOSPRING = 50% off select “Spring Picks” (exp 3/7)](//www.jcrew.com/c/shops/50_off_spring_picks/men?crawl=no&Npge=1&Nrpp=1000) Lotta J. Crew promos lately. So many that I hesitated to wallop you guys over the head with another one. But after sitting much of the early part of the year out, J. Crew has gone to the max with a few 50% off promos as of late. Yes it’s been select styles. Thus, much of the site has been excluded. But what HAS been up for the fat discount? Pretty solid. Same deal here. [A limited selection](//www.jcrew.com/c/shops/50_off_spring_picks/men?crawl=no&Npge=1&Nrpp=1000), but what is in there is worth a look. Especially if you’re looking to refresh the wardrobe for warmer weather ahead. And maybe, y’know, leaving your house/apartment once the sun comes out. Code GOSPRING runs through the weekend. [Garment-dyed slub cotton polo shirt – $19.75](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/50_off_select_sale/clothing/garmentdyed-slub-cotton-polo-shirt/J1851?color_name=gentle-blue) ($39.50) [J. Crew Garment-dyed slub cotton polo shirt](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/50_off_select_sale/clothing/garmentdyed-slub-cotton-polo-shirt/J1851?color_name=gentle-blue) Bit of a legend, and surprised to see them under $20 so early on in the season. This is not a “dressy” polo, but it looks anything but worn out and schlumpy. The three button placket gives it a bit of rakishness/keeps it from looking like that free polo you got from your workplace with the clunky logo embroidered on the chest. Fabric here is a garment dyed slub for softness. And the pocket at the chest is a bit of a retro touch. Would go great with a pair of washed chinos and some suede loafers and… a [Negroni](. And a good dose of sunshine. [Slub jersey polo shirt in yarn-dyed stripe – $24.50](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/tshirtspolos1/slub-jersey-polo-shirt-in-yarndyed-stripe/AI946?color_name=ivory-blue) ($49.50) [J. Crew Slub jersey polo shirt in yarn-dyed stripe](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/tshirtspolos1/slub-jersey-polo-shirt-in-yarndyed-stripe/AI946?color_name=ivory-blue) Or, stripes. Stripes make a lot of things better. Also shown at the very top of the post, although the blue stripe there looks much darker? Odd. [Slub jersey pocket T-shirt in stripe – $18.25](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/tshirtspolos1/slub-jersey-pocket-tshirt-in-stripe/AH884?color_name=lagoon-green) ($36.50) [J. Crew Slub jersey pocket T-shirt in stripe](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/tshirtspolos1/slub-jersey-pocket-tshirt-in-stripe/AH884?color_name=lagoon-green) As I was saying. Stripes. [Italian chino Ludlow Slim-fit suit jacket](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/suiting1/ludlow-slimfit-suit-jacket-in-italian-chino/AT050?color_name=navy) & [trouser – $228](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/suiting1/ludlow-slimfit-suit-pant-in-italian-chino/AT051?color_name=navy) ($456) [J. Crew Ludlow Chino Suit](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/suiting1/ludlow-slimfit-suit-jacket-in-italian-chino/AT050?color_name=navy) Wool suits feel a little too polished right now? Try chino instead. Still smooth, still sharp. Italian chino here, but a cotton fabric like this just doesn’t carry the “seriousness” that wool often does. [Slim lightweight stretch Secret Wash cotton poplin shirt – $34.75](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_select_new_arrivals/shirts1/slim-lightweight-stretch-secret-wash-cotton-poplin-shirt/AU769?color_name=baltic-blue-eoe) ($69.50) [J. Crew Slim lightweight stretch Secret Wash cotton poplin shirt](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_select_new_arrivals/shirts1/slim-lightweight-stretch-secret-wash-cotton-poplin-shirt/AU769?color_name=baltic-blue-eoe) Man. If fresh air were a shirt that’s what it’d look like. Plenty of solids and patterns to pick from. And the slim fit is super appreciated. [Sussex quilted jacket with PrimaLoft – $74](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/coatsjackets1/sussex-quilted-jacket-with-primaloft/AQ431?color_name=evergreen-moss) ($148) [J. Crew Sussex quilted jacket with PrimaLoft](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/coatsjackets1/sussex-quilted-jacket-with-primaloft/AQ431?color_name=evergreen-moss) Annnnd back to reality for a lot of us. Because it’s nowhere near summer yet, and even spring for plenty still seems far off. The Sussex quilted jacket from J. Crew has a lot going for it, and is well reviewed for good reason. Half off feels kind. [484 Slim-fit five-pocket stretch chino pant – $39.75](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/pants/slim/484-slimfit-fivepocket-stretch-chino-pant/AR148?color_name=catskill-green) ($79.50) [484 Slim-fit five-pocket stretch chino pant](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/pants/slim/484-slimfit-fivepocket-stretch-chino-pant/AR148?color_name=catskill-green) Well made basics in do-anything colors. Half off this time. They’ve been hovering around 40% off as of late when they were up for promos, so, half off this time. [Ludlow Slim-fit stretch cotton-linen jacket](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/sportcoatsandvests/suitingblazers/ludlow-slimfit-stretch-cottonlinen-jacket/AI367?color_name=deep-ocean) & [matching trouser – $228](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/suits_tuxedos/ludlowpremiumsuit/ludlow-slimfit-suit-pant-in-stretch-cottonlinen/AI366?color_name=deep-ocean) ($456) [Ludlow Slim-fit stretch cotton-linen suit](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/sportcoatsandvests/suitingblazers/ludlow-slimfit-stretch-cottonlinen-jacket/AI367?color_name=deep-ocean) Also shown at the very top of the post. Fingers crossed for outdoor, warm weather parties this summer? Maybe? Maybe. This’d be one way to absolutely crush one of those. Or, to just look dashing as all hell walking down the street. Every wedding reception in the not overly distant future is gonna be like a 10 year reunion. It’ll be clear who put the effort in to stick to their guns (where possible). It’ll be clear who gave up. And it’s been hard enough that either way is both fine and understandable. But look, [trying does wonders](. [Ludlow Slim-fit knit blazer in Italian wool – $225](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_feature/newarrivals2/blazersandvests/ludlow-slimfit-knit-blazer-in-italian-wool/AS793?color_name=navy) ($450) [Ludlow blazer](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_feature/newarrivals2/blazersandvests/ludlow-slimfit-knit-blazer-in-italian-wool/AS793?color_name=navy) Another half off sale, another desire to pick this thing up for some first-person use. Check out that texture. J. Crew does the knit blazer thing, and instead of cheaper cotton or cotton blends like many other brands, they’re going with Italian wool here. Could become a go-to. [Slim stretch Secret Wash shirt in organic cotton gingham – $34.50](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/shirts/secret_wash/slim-stretch-secret-wash-shirt-in-organic-cotton-gingham/AA429?color_name=van-buren-gingham-navy-h) ($69.50) [Slim stretch Secret Wash shirt in organic cotton gingham](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/shirts/secret_wash/slim-stretch-secret-wash-shirt-in-organic-cotton-gingham/AA429?color_name=van-buren-gingham-navy-h) The “meme” shirt (navy gingham) brings a merry band of brothers to the party. “Your shirt looks like a tablecloth” “Yeah, well, you look like you ate the whole picnic.” …”What?” “What?”… [“WHAT?”]( (paper plates go everywhere) [Stretch Secret Wash shirt in organic cotton tiny dots print – $34.75](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/shirts1/stretch-secret-wash-shirt-in-organic-cotton-tiny-dots-print/AA262?color_name=spready-baby-dots-navy) ($69.50) [Stretch Secret Wash shirt in organic cotton tiny dots print](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/shirts1/stretch-secret-wash-shirt-in-organic-cotton-tiny-dots-print/AA262?color_name=spready-baby-dots-navy) [Dots! Dots! Dots! Du Du DOTS!]( (nsfw lyrics) [Ludlow Slim-fit suit jacket](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/suits_tuxedos/ludlowpremiumsuit/ludlow-slimfit-suit-jacket-in-italian-organic-wool/AT143?color_name=charcoal-glen) & [matching trouser in Italian organic wool – $283](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/suits_tuxedos/ludlowpremiumsuit/ludlow-slimfit-suit-pant-in-italian-organic-wool/AT144?color_name=charcoal-glen) ($566) [Ludlow suit](//www.jcrew.com/r/search/?N=0&Nloc=en&Ntrm=Italian%20organic%20wool&Nsrt=&Npge=1&Nrpp=60) Would 100% wear each of these pieces separately/with other gear. That suit jacket would look great as a sportcoat. Those trousers would look terrific with a dress shirt and sweater. And as a suit, a subtle glenplaid with a charcoal base could look great with solids like a pale blue shirt and dark navy tie with some texture. Marzotto Italian wool here. [Ludlow Slim-fit Legacy blazer in Italian wool flannel – $175](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_feature/newarrivals2/blazersandvests/ludlow-slimfit-legacy-blazer-in-italian-wool-flannel/AS943?color_name=navy) ($350) [Ludlow Slim-fit Legacy blazer in Italian wool flannel](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_feature/newarrivals2/blazersandvests/ludlow-slimfit-legacy-blazer-in-italian-wool-flannel/AS943?color_name=navy) Lots of time left to wear this before summer hits. Vitale Barberis flannel here. Used to have something similar, and it saw a lot of work with jeans. There’s something about that soft texture of wool flannel that goes terrific with the crisper texture of denim. [Court sneakers in leather – $74](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/shoes_sneakers/sneakers/court-sneakers-in-leather/AQ226?color_name=white) ($148) [J. Crew Court Sneakers](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_category/shoes_sneakers/sneakers/court-sneakers-in-leather/AQ226?color_name=white) “Anybody got a review on these”? [BOY HOWDY DO WE.]( [Short-sleeve stretch Secret Wash shirt in print – $32.25](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/shirts1/shortsleeve-stretch-secret-wash-shirt-in-print/AE796?color_name=julian-flower-multi-blac) ($64.50) [Short-sleeve stretch Secret Wash shirt in print](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/shirts1/shortsleeve-stretch-secret-wash-shirt-in-print/AE796?color_name=julian-flower-multi-blac) After a year+ of just… woof… then maybe something a little loud and a little “fun” might be in order. [Slub jersey T-shirt in deck stripe – $18.25](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_feature/newarrivals2/justin/slub-jersey-tshirt-in-deck-stripe/AH885?color_name=navy-deck-stripe) ($36.50) [Slub jersey T-shirt in deck stripe](//www.jcrew.com/p/mens_feature/newarrivals2/justin/slub-jersey-tshirt-in-deck-stripe/AH885?color_name=navy-deck-stripe) Goes with everything. Looks terrific layered under a lightweight merino cardigan. And the slub jersey fabric is a really nice point of differentiation. [100% Italian Cashmere Ludlow Slim-fit suit jacket](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/suiting1/ludlow-slimfit-suit-jacket-in-italian-cashmere/AQ260?color_name=navy) & [trouser – $700](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/suiting1/ludlow-slimfit-suit-pant-in-italian-cashmere/AQ261?color_name=navy) ($1400) [Ludlow suit](//www.jcrew.com/p/shops/50_off_spring_picks/suiting1/ludlow-slimfit-suit-jacket-in-italian-cashmere/AQ260?color_name=navy) Full honesty: I’d be afraid of wearing it. I’ll stick with my (much cheaper) nice, harder wearing super 110s merino suits thank you very much. The J. Crew 50% off select code GOSPRING expires Sunday, 3/7/21. ff/Dappered?a=dJ9gdiiExGI:p1yjQrhN3qg:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=dJ9gdiiExGI:p1yjQrhN3qg:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=dJ9gdiiExGI:p1yjQrhN3qg:gIN9vFwOqvQ You are subscribed to email updates from [Dappered Style Mail]().
