Prints were big this year. Floral. Camo. Etc. Especially during the summer. But one of the hottest trends of the last few of years doesn’t have to STAY in the summer. Now that the weather has cooled off, don’t be afraid to inject some prints of boldness into your outfits before reaching for that flannel plaid. Unless you are a lumberjack by trade, by all means, dress appropriately. For the rest of us; hereâs a guide to wear bold prints going into the cooler months.
#1 â Working on working out
- The Shirt: [Old Navy Ultra-Soft Breathe ON Tee for Men in Charcoal – $15](
- The Jacket: [Amazon Peak Velocity Medium-weight Fleece Hoodie in Black – $14-18](
- The Pants: [Adidas Tiro 19 Training Pants in Grey – $33](
- The Shoes: [Adidas Solar Ride Running Shoe – $59.95](
For the uninitiated to bold prints, I find it easier to fit this into your style by starting with the casuals, so you can feelâ¦. uh, casual in them? The more relaxed and confident you feel wearing something bold (or any color thatâs not part of your wardrobe) the easier it’ll be to help you move up to the more âdressier tiersâ of bold print.
#2 – Camo/Corduroy
- The Shirt: [Old Navy Thermal Knit long Sleeve Tee in Olive Camouflage – $22.99](
- The Pants: [Amazon Goodthreads Men’s Slim-Fit 5-Pocket Corduroy Pant in Black – $30](
- The Undershirt: [Target Goodfellow & Co Short Sleeve Lyndale Crew Neck T-Shirt – $6](
- The Shoes: [Adidas Stan Smith in White / Green – $80](
A step up on the casual scale while offering the functionality of warmth. Corduroy pants with a little stretch in a 5 pocket cut helps things look dressed down with clean white trainer sneakers for that bit of contrast. (If your size happens to be available, you might be able to get those Stan Smith’s for as low as [$48 through Amazon](.)
#3 – Monochrome-ish Blues
- The Shirt: [Banana Republic Luxury-Touch Performance Golf Polo in Navy Camo – $33](Â ($54.50)
- The Jeans: [Banana Republic Slim Legacy Jean in Medium Wash – $59](Â ($98.00)
- The Jacket: [Banana Republic Motion Tech Bomber Jacket in Navy – $89](Â ($149)Â similar
- The Shoes: [Adidas Stan Smith in White / Green – $80](
An easier bold pattern shirt to work into an outfit featuring pieces that the majority of us already have. A blue shade of camo in a polo shirt for the warmer part of the day fits the monochrome of blues- med wash jeans and a navy bomber jacket. Add your favorite pair of white sneakers to complete the look.
#4 â Warmer Days
- The Shirt: [Target Goodfellow & Co – Slim Short Sleeve Button-Down in Dark Red $19.99](
- The Jacket: [Goodthreads Lightweight Merino Bomber Sweater in Black- prices vary](
- The Jeans: [Levi’s Men’s 511 Slim Fit Jeans in Grey Black – $27+](
- The Shoes: [Adidas Stan Smith in White / Green – $80](
The shirtâs darker red is enough to work into the spectrum of [fall colors](. Amazonâs Goodthreads bomber type sweater leans on the thinner side of material and works for earlier, warmer parts of fall and is easy to layer up with a thicker coat in the much colder days. Pair up medium to dark grey jeans or chinos with your favorite sneakers for a done deal.
#5 – Layered with a large print pattern
- The Shirt: [Amazon Goodthreads Slim-Fit Printed Poplin Shirt in Blue Heather – $10 – $30](
- The Jeans: [Banana Republic Slim Rapid Movement Denim in Stay Blue – $50ish](Â ($118)
- The Sweater: [Amazon Goodthreads Lightweight Merino Cardigan in Heather Gray – $40](Â similar
- The Shoes: [Frye Scott Chukka Boot – prices vary](
- The Belt: [J. Crew Factory Washed Leather Belt – $29.50](
Using a bolder print pattern than a standard micro print dot shirt… but a dot would do great here too. Shifting up the smart casual spectrum by way of using a lighter gray cardigan makes for easy layering. Perfect for a date night in or out.
#6 – The Abstract… with a Sportcoat
- The Shirt: [Target Slim Long Sleeve Poplin Button Down in Blue – $25](
- The Blazer: [Express Slim Comfort Lux Blazer in Heather Blue – $168](//www.express.com/clothing/men/slim-luxe-comfort-knit-blazer/pro/09393836/color/Heather%20Blue/)
- The Pants: [Old Navy Slim Built-In Flex White Jeans for Men â $24.97](
- The Shoes: [Thomas & Vine Gunner Derby in Grey – $74.99]( similar
- The Belt: [Gap Brown Leather Belt – $39.95](
âSpeckledâ shirts and the like might seem like designers are taking cues from Jackson Pollock. Just know that the mashup of colors are easier to match by simply choosing the color that is more âpronouncedâ in the shirt. Choosing shirts that have a deeper tone such as black, blue, or even white will make it easier to find colors of complimenting layers. Chukkas are pictured above but a darker grey derby also works for making the outfit more casual. Going with white jeans here. Which is gonna look off in many parts of the hemisphere, but if you’re in a warmer climate (like I am, in LA), then white jeans are still good to go.
#7 – The Floral… with a Suit!
- The Shirt: [H&M Premium Quality Cotton Shirt in Dark Blue – $9.99]( (only XXL left online)
- The Suit: [Bonobos Daily Grind Suit Jacket in Navy – $88]( & [Matching Pants – $40](Â similar
- The Shoes: [Made in Italy Massimo Matteo Cap Toe Oxford – $111](//www.zappos.com/p/massimo-matteo-6-eye-bal-cap-toe-tan/product/8296580/color/20)
- The Belt: [Marino Ratchet Belt in Brown – $19.99](
- The Pocket Square: [Tie Bar Pocket Square with Grey Border – $12](//www.thetiebar.com/product/PL375)
Floral shirts. Very Bold. Not for the light hearted. But not completely over reaching for the Dappered reader that normally sticks to solids. This time, weâll contrast the shirtâs lighter colors of white and grayish blue with a darker blue suit jacket. The white pocket square with its similar grayish blue border is a complimenting piece. Now… why recommend a suit when thereâs probably no reason to at this current time? [Wear it for yourself. Not just for a future pending event.](

You did it. You graduated. [You got the job](. You got your own place. Problem is what you’ve decorated your place with are the hand-me-downs and college hold-overs. Sure, they get you by, but there’s something missing… style.
You often get compliments about how sharp you look, but you know your place would not garner those same accolades. It’s not hard to change that, and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Sure, you might have to make a small investment of money and/or time, but creating a space you love which reflects the stylish guy you’ve become can enhance your well being.
Here’s 5 essentials to consider to get you started on that stylish decor journey.
#1 Upgraded Seating
- [Amazon Stone and Beam Finch Morgan Leather Wingback Chair – $398](Â
- [Lorelei Large Armchair – $259](
- [Harvard Microfiber 4-Seater Tuxedo Sofa – $242.05](
- [Lelana Sleeper – $429.99](
- [Centiar Dining Chairs (set of 2) – $118.44](
- [Black Metal & Wood Dining chairs (set of 4) – $144.99](
Upgraded seating goes for arm and accent chairs, sofas, and dining seating. Regarding dining seating, your chairs don’t have to match your table. They should compliment your table, but they most certainly do not have to match. And actually, it’s more on trend right now to have tables and chairs NOT match. Also, upgrading from hand me down or thrift store couches and chairs that you or your parents purchased just to get you by is a right of passage in creating your unique space. Looking to go big? Consider the [Stone & Beam Chesterfield chair]( (show at top of post).
#2. Cleaned Up Bedding
- [Bespoke Post “Den” Throw Pillows – $45](
- [Woven Herringbone Pillow – $19.99](
- [Kirkland Signature 680 Thread Count Queen Sheet Set – $79.99](
- [Lands’ End Oxford Solid Queen Sheets – $143.95](//www.landsend.com/products/oxford-solid-sheets/id_339105)
- [Alpaca and Sheep Queen Wool Blanket – $139.50](
- [Pendleton Eco-Wise Queen Wool Blanket – $199 to $219](
A mish-mash of blankets and quilts and just the pillow you sleep with is… fine. Cheap sheets that you’ve been using for the past two years are… good enough. These things have utility and are still comfortable for sleep. But if you want your space to reflect your style? Get it done in every room, including your bedroom. This does not mean you have to get a matching bedding set from Macy’s. If you were challenged to assemble bedding that reflected your style, what would it look like? Here’s a formula to help: try to convert one of your favorite outfits into bedding. Not literally. Don’t get out the scissors. But instead, stylistically make that transition. [We have a series that does just that, depending on the room](. Love dark rinse jeans? Find a navy blanket for the foot of your bed. Is grey a staple in your wardrobe? Invest in a grey wool blanket the size of your bed. What’s your favorite pattern on a blazer or sweater? Find a couple throw pillows that reflect that. Do you often wear a standard OCBD in white or light blue? Let that guide you in your sheets choice. If it looks good on you, it’ll probably look in your space.
#3. Kitchen Counter Basics
- [4 Pack Bistro Kitchen Towel – $11.99](
- [SUSTEAS Stove Top Whistling Tea Kettle – $33.99](
- [Bamboo Countertop Composter – $40](
- [KitchenAid Toaster – $49.99](
- [Cuisinart Perfectemp Coffee Maker – $99.95](
- [Viking 15-Piece Knife Set With Wood Block – $77](
You don’t have to get high-end tricked out appliances, but if you’re still working with a fifteen dollar coffee pot from Rite Aid and the toaster your parents got in the 90’s, it might be time to let those go. It’s easy to overlook aesthetics when it comes to utilitarian objects like small appliances, knife blocks, and towels, but these are the things we see everyday, and so do our guests. Leave the crappy basics that are usually purchased because they are disposable to the college kids, and upgrade your kitchen game with better stuff.
#4. Better Art
- [Springs and Gears Letterpress Watch Movement Prints â $30 â $65](
- [4″ x 6″ Framed Horizontal Rowboat in Water Hand Press – $12.60](
- [The Angelus By Jean Francois Millet – $39.99](
- [12″ x 16″ I Am A Man Vintage Poster Framed Print – $55](
- [18″ x 12.75″ Iron Playing Card Wall Decor (set of 4) – $57.60](
- [Stormy Shore Coastal Framed Canvas Art – $110.32](
- [CG Pro Prints â $9.99 and up]( (puts pictures [you’ve taken]( to canvas)
Posters be gone. OR, posters be framed (depending on the poster). Tacking or taping paper posters on a wall is a great way to decorate as a child. As an adult? It looks sloppy. If you have some posters from your youth that would qualify as vintage and look great in a black frame, get it in that frame to help it grow up. If you’re not willing to frame the [posters and prints you buy from here on out]( switch to art on canvas or a medium other than paper.
#5. Bathroom Decor
- [Century Striped Multi Printed Hand Towel – $4](
- [Enamel Mug (for cotton swab storage) – $14](
- [Maxted Towel Hook – $15.98](
- [Sunset Horizon Tufted Bath Mat – $16.99](//www.worldmarket.com/product/sunset+horizon+tufted+bath+mat.do?sortby=ourPicks&from=fn)
- [Waffle Weave Shower Curtain – $19.99](
- [Floating Shelves with Towel Bar (set of 2) – $23.99](
Don’t let this be a throwaway room in your place. Bathrooms are super easy to decorate because they’re smaller. Again, you don’t have to get matchy matchy with your decor in a bathroom, but there should be some cohesiveness to it. Choose a theme, run with it, but remember that less is almost always more. If you like to stay hip to current trends, [modern farmhouse makes a great bathroom look](.
[The Dappered Space](Â is a series designed to help guys apply the sense of personal style theyâve developed to the space they inhabit. Watch for articles on furniture and decor sales & picks, advice on how to style a room or work space, and tackling creating a space that reflects your own (and perhaps a significant otherâs) personal tastes. Weâll suggest items that can be sourced online, but always keep in mind that deals can be found at consignment and thrift stores, local stores with floor models, discount stores, and even yard sales.
