[J. Crew Slim-fit unstructured suit jacket in cotton-linen – $84]( ($168) & [Matching Trousers – $49]( ($98)
Big fan of these things. Especially the jackets. These are their “unsuits”. And while they do make for a pretty nifty, super relaxed and unstructured (but still slim fit) summer suit, the jackets themselves make terrific stand alone warm weather sportcoats. Wear one with your favorite pair of [lightweight denim]( or [summer-weight]( chinos ([core-temp! wheeee!](), and you’re set.
No structure here. None. They’re little more than shirt weight. Portugese cotton-linen fabric. Easy to tailor, non functioning sleeve cuff buttons. Dual vents in the rear. Ludlow slim fit but that’s it. Those of us with more “athletic” frames are outta luck.
Want some ideas on how to wear it? Cool. [Head here](.
The sale on these unsuits (and [some other “dressy-ish” styles]( ends this Friday, 5/1.
That’s all. Carry on.

[Timex Milano 38mm Leather Strap Watch – $99](
Remember Mad Men? I know, wasn’t that long ago. But still. Everyone (in real life) started wearing skinny ties and slicking their hair back and randomly saying things like “[the carousel](. It was all sorta… costumey. But the thing about retro style is that it can look 100% at home in the here and now, as long as you limit the influence of an era to one or two pieces in an entire outfit. And a watch, like this watch, is a perfect example of how great a little retro can look.
[In Review: The Timex Milano Men's Dress Watch | Dappered.com](
Brushed cushion case with polished accents.
Unlike a lot of other retro-influenced watches, this Timex Milano doesn’t rely on multiple elements to get across the idea that its design is based in the past. Again, more does not always = better. It’s the watch’s case. Cushion shaped, supporting a dead simple collection of indices, hands, and font. All quietly combining against a super subtle, barely noticeable sunburst texture on the dial, to look like something [that Don guy]( mighta worn.
[In Review: The Timex Milano Men's Dress Watch | Dappered.com](
Subtle sunburst dial. It’s not lifeless, but it’s not glaring either.
But it’s still sized and constructed with the 21st century in mind. Quartz movement (keeps it cheap-ish). Quick change spring bars for easy strap swap outs (get a brown strap too and you’ve got a heck of a versatile dress watch). 50m of water resistance. And a 38mm case diameter which avoids the [doll-like proportions of the Marlin](. It should look great on just about anyone’s wrist. Timex calls it the “Milano XL 38mm”. I don’t know why. It’s not XL. Hardly. It’s just right.
Should be good with a suit. Or a sweater polo. Or lots of other things.
It’s not without flaws though. It does have the Timex “tick”. It’s not silent. In a (very) quiet room, if your focus drifts, it can very well land on the tick… tick… TICK of the seconds hand. Not all Timex watches have the “tick”. This one does. So those with sensitive ears might need to stick this thing in a drawer overnight, or risk being kept awake, edging closer and closer to madness with every rip of the seconds hand.
[In Review: The Timex Milano Men's Dress Watch | Dappered.com](
38mm case size and 20mm lugs. A perfect dress watch size for plenty.
Also, that leather band is super flimsy feeling. It’s soft all right, and the quick change pins on the spring bars are appreciated, but I feel like if I wanted to, I could go pure hulkamania and rip the thing in half. Also, there’s hardly any lume here. (Like, none maybe?) No indiglo, that’s for sure. But the sunburst dial is worth it. And for a relatively cheap dress watch, that’s not too surprising.
[In Review: The Timex Milano Men's Dress Watch | Dappered.com](
Quick change strap pins. Get an additional brown strap and you’re set.
It’s a stunner though. Another horse in the stable of recent Timex style wins. And it’s priced at a level that’s accessible to the majority of us. It does feel like one of those models that won’t be straying too far from Timex.com. Meaning, it might be a while (or never) until it trickles down to 3rd party websites, and thus, it’ll stick close to retail price until that happens. For now, full price or a random 20% off code might be as good as it gets.
Enter here to win the Timex Milano shown in the post above. One entry per person. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm ET 4/29/20. Good luck!

Welcome to â[What I Wore Today Working from Home](.â AKA, WIWTWFH (pronounced: wee-WIT-wu-fuh). A series on, you guessed it, who wears what to work, when working, or NOT working, from home. To help keep you on track with your work (day job or self-improvement) when stuck inside for the next few weeks, this is a series on how to dress at home to put you in the right frame of mind. Would you like to be featured? See the bottom of this post for instructions.Â
About the Author: Fred C. is a 38 year-old Post-doctoral Research Psychologist, specializing in social psychology and statistics (he focuses on the complexities of intimate relationships and the crazy math & statistics involved in making sense of the data we collect via these kinds of studies). He lives and works in San Diego with his girlfriend. Beyond work, Fred’s passions include producing hip hop music, fitness, cooking, comedy, politics, gaming, and home bartending.
Author’s Note: I’m at a point where 90% of my wardrobe has been thrifted (we have great thrift stores in San Diego), and I keep & use anything I buy new for as long as possible (Iâm a big environmental & social justice dork). In the outfit here, the pieces I bought new were the pants, the laptop bag, the socks, and the watch. For the thrifted pieces, Iâve hunted around for current items as fill ins, since we all know thrift stores have unique stock. Happy hunting if you’re a thrifter!
The Sweater: [L.L.Bean Cotton Fisherman Sweater, Shawl-Collar Cardigan in Navy – $139](. Despite living in SoCal itâs not super warm just yet at this time of year. Shawl collar cardigans are as C O Z Y as it gets, and breathes well thanks to the chunkier knits. And since this pick is LL Bean, it’ll probably last and last and last. The thrifted cardigan I’m wearing at the top of this post is a belted wool-blend sweater from J. Crew.
The Shirt: [J. Crew Stretch Organic Cotton Chambray Shirt – $59.62]( w/ SHOPMORE ($79.50). Wait for big(er) sales, or if you’re also into thrifting like me, you have a good shot of finding plenty of chambray shirts in your local shop. Lightweight chambray (and chambray-like) shirts are a staple of modern menswear, so alternatives are widely available from lots of retailers. My thrifted shirt is actually made by Todd Snyder.
The Pants: [Uniqlo EZY Ankle Pant in Navy – $39.90]( Bought these new. The windowpane option is no longer available (mine are from Summer 2019) but a plain navy would suit you just fine as well. Mine are all synthetic, so theyâre definitely not a go-to pants in the summer months, but theyâre plenty good (and super stretchy) for cooler Spring and Fall days. Good news is, they now offer [these pants in a 93% cotton alternative (though not in windowpane)]( that should breathe easier than last yearâs full synthetic pair.
The Shoes: [Mercanti Florentini Penny Loafer – $149.99]( Casual but not in fuzzy slipper territory. I’ve got a pair of woven Johnston & Murphy loafers on at the top of the post. Thrifted again, but the style has been discontinued. DSW’s Italian brand Mercanti Firoentini fills in just fine here.
The Socks: [Uniqlo Low Cut Socks – $4.90](. Â These have been my go-to for 4 years or so. Usually available from Uniqlo at 3 pairs for $12.90, available in a bunch of different colors. Iâve found that Uniqloâs no-shows have been some of the only socks whose heel grip actually stays up throughout the waking day for me, and keep me from having to constantly try to covertly adjust my socks in public.
The Watch: [Timex Weekender (Cream dial) on a FFF Button Stud Strap – $98](. This one was my first stylish watch purchase, and the first purchase I made thanks to learning about it on Dappered years ago. I got it in 2013 and it has held up very well over the years. Theyâre still available and one of my absolute favorites.
The Laptop Bag: [GEARONIC Leather Canvas Laptop Bag in Green – $32.99](. From one of those all but generic brands that comes and goes pretty quick on Amazon. My bag isn’t even available anymore, but it’s surprisingly durable, and others have had good luck with these brands and bags. The GEARONIC pick is pretty close to what I have.
The Backpack: [Goodfellow Waxed Canvas Backpack – $34.99](. I primarily use a backpack when Iâm cycling somewhere, since the messenger bag can swing around while pedaling and makes the ride a bit more hazardous in my experience.
Kitten (left) and Tai (right). Ten years ago, my girlfriend took them in after they were both found abandoned outside as wee baby kittens. We are very proud of the chonky thicc bois they have grown up to be, and delight in their companionship. Even when they wake us far too early on Saturdays and demand something to eat.

[Target Goodfellow & Co Spring 2020](
About the Author:Â Ryan N. is a professional web developer for (and alum from) the University of Delaware, who keeps a close shave as to not be confused with his strongly-bearded twin brother. He plays guitar and drums, loves going to concerts with his wife, and loves being a dad.Â
Guys. I think Target’s Goodfellow & Co. line is here to stay. Goodfellow has been slowly and steadily putting together a season-on-season streak of quality, super-affordable menswear by way of consistent, subtle, detail-oriented improvements. And Spring 2020 keeps that streak alive. They’re just nailing the little details. Target, yes TARGET (the place with the popcorn machine up front) has become a great, entry-level menswear retailer, not just a retailer that happens to sell menswear. They’ve come a long way from the Merona days. Let’s check out their Spring offerings.
SIZING NOTE: I’m 5’9″ / 160, all tops shown are a size small. Jeans are 32Ã30 unless noted.
[Slim Lightweight Denim in.. “Light Denim” â $29.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
When I saw these in the box, I thought they looked pretty similar to [last year’s Lightweight Jeans](. I figured they were the heir apparent. Turns out they’re more like a cousin.. and that’s not a bad thing at all. As much as I like last year’s, this version is less “crazy-stretch,” and much more “reasonable flex.” There’s stretch here, but like the All In Motion line, Target seems to be honing their stretch game into a more functional version of comic-book stretchiness. The color is an excellent desaturated light blue, meaning it will wear almost like a light grey when you’re matching your outfit. I’m usually not a light-wash guy, but these are a home run for me.
A bit about sizing, re: the flex. I tried 32×30, 33×30, and 34×30 just to see how the sizing held up. The 33×30 fits me the most comfortable in the waist.. when first putting on. Also fits great in the legs. But, will that hold true for the second wear, or third? My lightweight jeans from last year stretch quite a bit between washes. The 32×30 fits me quite slim, but to be honest, that’s usually my sweet spot for lightweight denim. Given the flex, I’m probably going with the 32×30. But these are such a specific fit that I’d recommend trying a few sizes. Check out the [side-by-side comparison of 32/33/34 waist sizes right over here](.
[Slim Lightweight Denim in White â $29.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
Honestly, not a lot to say here that wasn’t said in the “light denim” color. Unlike last year’s scattershot “lightweight denim” offerings, this year’s seem to be more homogeneous in feel and fit, so you know more what to expect. What I like about these in particular is the opaqueness of the white color (these aren’t see-through), and the color itself. They’re white allright, but they’re not a blaring, eye-melting, contrast set to 100 white. They remind me a lot of the “Ecru” [Old Navy jeans from last year](. And most importantly, they pass the high leg kicks test. [KI-YAAAA](!
[Men’s Waxed Canvas Backpack in Tan â $34.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
The details on this bag remind me a lot of the [AmazonBasics Weekender Bag](Â from a few months ago. That same twill softness inside, same double-pocket-palooza. I’m not much of a backpack guy, but this [wears REALLY nicely](, and the straps are [quite comfortable](. It seems roomy enough, with plenty of pockets both [inner]( and [outer](. The tan color they chose is warm enough to not be boring, but not saturated enough to look like you’re wearing a pair of khakis on your back. Nice [magnet straps on the front](, with [brassy hardware on leatherette](, as well a [nifty drawstring cord]( to cinch up the main compartment. While roomy, it doesn’t make for a bulky profile from the [side]( or [back](.
[Standard Fit Short Sleeve Slub Pocket Crew Neck â $9.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
What else is there left to say about Target’s glorious basics? They just nail the fit on these easy-wearing, casual tees. Neck isn’t too tight, hem hits right, sleeves hit right, and includes a useful pocket, which just elevates a crewneck tee. The grey color goes with almost anything, light enough to reflect some heat in the summer. Almost all of my basic tees are from Target, and Goodfellow keeps up that accomplishment here. Six colors to pick from.
[Standard Fit Short Sleeve Henley â $12.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
As I’ve [noted before](, I’ve always loved Target’s henleys. They just get the job done without doing too much. Still has that super-soft collar that lays great, and raglan sleeves keep your shoulders looking sharp. Really wish they’d have opted for that nice rounded hem from their long-sleeve henleys on this, but that’s personal preference. Seven colors to pick from, including a sharp [dark green]( that this Eagles fan might need to scoop up. Shown above would be the super-descriptive “blue” color.
[Standard Fit Long Sleeve Double Weave Button-Down in Cornelian Blue â $24.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
Double-weave means.. well, to be honest, I don’t quite understand it, but I’ll try to explain it anyway!! A double-woven shirt has a different pattern woven into either side of the shirt, but the two sides are connected to each other at certain stitches. I know, right? So you’re basically wearing two extremely thin layers, in this case a micro-check outside, and a [full plaid inside](. So is it hot? Far from it. To be honest, this shirt blew away my expectations. I thought it would wear thick, and not be summer-friendly. I was wrong. This glides on super-smooth, lays really comfortably, and because of how thin the fabrics are, it’s almost like there’s some air between the layers that allows it to breathe. Crazy. Plus, you get to do that cool [roll-up-the-sleeves move]( and show off the inner tartan. Neat!
[Standard Fit Short Sleeve Polo Jersey Shirt in Navy Print â $14.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
Another place Target is upping the standards is in their polos. If you remember the [All In Motion review](, their performance polos earned high marks for a stand-up collar with strong but flexible construction, unlike the floppy collars most offer in their softer-materials shirts. Again, here Goodfellow has a [strong showing with the collar](, which is where grading of any polo should begin. Under that is a reinforced placket, with a sideways top button (rare) and rounded collar band, much like you’d see on a dress shirt. While the texture of the fabric is almost slub-like, I wouldn’t put it in the same category. It wears too nicely for that, though the material is lightweight, airy and almost gauzy. The pattern is subtle, not loud, and it’s something I could wear to work and then right out to a happy hour. There’s a subtle, almost imperceptible patch chest pocket, and the fit, of course, [is spot-on](.
[Standard Fit Kenwood Blazer in Sage â $39.99](
[In Review: Target's Goodfellow & Co. Spring/Summer 2020 Roundup | Dappered.com](
Given the stretch, patch pockets, a [fairly chopped butt](, and [functional cuff buttons]( (sigh!), I’d put this blazer squarely in the “casual” realm. But there, it excels. Throw it over a simple tee, hike the sleeves up, and you’re gonna be comfortable and stylish for a variety of situations. Now, could you dress this up? Possibly. I tried pairing it with the navy polo, [which doesn’t look bad](, but I think this is best used going super-casual. Two [inner pockets](, as well as a [strange branding patch]( that I thought was a third pocket (why not just put that directly on the pocket, Target?), complete the storage options. The color is excellent and a welcome change from oversaturated navy and khaki, and the price point makes this a good buy. Just make sure the sleeves hit you where you them to, because investing in adjusting functioning sleeve cuff buttons on a $40 blazer seems kind of silly.
Got a tip on something from Target’s Goodfellow & Co. line that didn’t make this round up? Send those suggestions into joe@dappered.com.
