A series on, you guessed it, who wears what to work, when working, or NOT working, from home. Y’know, to help put you in the right frame of mind for your work (day job or self-improvement) when stuck inside for the next few weeks. Would you like to be featured? See the bottom of this post for instructions. About the Author: Justin K. is a teacher who lives in rural Michigan. These days, when he’s not checking in remotely with the day job (and his students with their 3 weeks of homework), he’s at work raising Hereford-Angus cows. Meanwhile, his S/O works in healthcare administration. So while he’s tending the hearth, he’ll also dabble in woodturning, woodworking, and throwing a stick for his best canine accessory, Calvin. Calvin is very, very good at fetching the stick. [What I Wore to Today Working from Home: Justin, Teacher (& sometimes Beef Man) | Dappered.com] The Overshirt: [J. Crew Heavyweight Chamois Work Shirt – $67.99]( ($98). This shirt is heavy duty, but shrinks a lot! I’m 6’2″, size 38 waist and got this in XXL. It was huge. But… I washed it hot and dried it on high and now it fits perfectly for cow chores. The T-shirt: [Hanes ComfortSoft® Dyed V-Neck T-Shirt – $9.25](. Slight V dip in the neck, not hip, no fishtail hem. Size XL shrank just fine to fit me like the flannel. For less than ten bucks you get a grey and black one. The Watch: [Timex Allied LT Chronograph – $119]( A beater chronograph on a nylon NATO strap is always the right choice when you’re working outdoors. The Pants: [Amazon Goodthreads The Perfect Chino in Slim Fit – $30](. I’m actually wearing [some GAP vintage khakis]( in the photo, but it looks like GAP doesn’t make those in brown anymore? At least for now? Anyway, the Goodthreads will do too, and they all start out for classroom duty anyway. Then, they’ll eventually get demoted to [the sugar shack]( (I run a maple syrup program at my school), wood shop, and around the farm. Coin pocket for added storage. The Boots: [Lacrosse Grange Workboot – $80](. This is my second pair of these particular boots. If you need your feet and legs to stay dry, buy them. I work in slop on the farm, wet sticky conditions making maple syrup, and inspect corn fields in the summer, and these get me through it all. They’re surprisingly warm in the winter. Unlike other popular waterproof boots, these are all rubber. So no neoprene which would absorb moisture as well as other stuff (and smells) in a barnyard. The Boots II: [Redwing Work Chukka – $259.99](. If conditions were drier, I’d wear these for kicking around. Listen to the reviews; these seemed way too small when I got them, BUT… after a few wears they broke in and stretched out and are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. Also known as the Yuma boot because all the dudes in Yuma, AZ wear them. I got mine via employee discount from a buddy that works for Nordstrom. I’m likely one of the few whose Nordy Redwings see actual work. The Socks: [Wigwam Lightweight Outdoor Pub Crew Sock – $14-18](. I picked these up on sale at my local hardware store for a song. Some cushy socks make all the difference. These are just warm enough, I’ve had mine for over two years and they’re still going strong. The Hat: [Carhartt Odessa Cap – $16.99](. Not a streetwear statement; got mine at my local hardware store. Want to submit your own WIWTWFM? Send an email to joe@dappered.com with who you are, what you do, and what you’d like to submit. And no, you don’t have to actually be working. There are plenty of jobs on standby right now whose workers can’t do the work from home. I’m not gonna discriminate. That’d be dumb. Now, to be featured, we’ll need a picture of you at home (at work, or not) as well as the details on what you’re wearing. Final image will have to be cropped down to 1500×840 pixels, so, keep that in mind when shooting. Landscape mode please, and let’s keep anything from the chin up out of it. Note that sending an email with your picks and a pic doesn’t guarantee publishing. We gotta have some variety, y’know? That’ll help your chances. Let’s keep it “Dappered.” But be yourself. Pics of pets always help too. Good luck. We’ll be in touch. Calvin has been named Stick Fetching Employee of the month… for the 62nd month in a row. Way to go Calvin! ff/Dappered?a=e7SiTutHov8:Nn8M7QWSf9k:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=e7SiTutHov8:Nn8M7QWSf9k:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=e7SiTutHov8:Nn8M7QWSf9k:gIN9vFwOqvQ [Steal Alert: Banana Republic 52% off no BR Merch exclusions](r/Dappered/~3/cvZriSxOg30/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 24 Mar 2020 12:28 PM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. They’re not alone though. Pretty sure we’ve all noticed other [brands]( + [stores]( adjusting to the current environment. Everyone’s trying to figure it out. And the current state of the retail world can best be represented by this model photo from BR’s women’s spring line: ’bout right. Is that the OG hands free? [Hardly](. Anyway, BR isn’t shouting about this from the rooftops. And 52% off? Exclusion free? That’s usually as good as it gets. Don’t forget that GAP inc. cardmembers can take an additional 10% off with BRCARD at checkout, for a total of 56.8% off. [Luxe Touch SLIM Fit]( or [Regular Fit Solid Polos – $21.36]( ($44.50) [BR Luxe Touch Polos]( A super well loved basic. Size shown above is a large slim on 5’10” / 195. Some have reported noticeable shrinkage with these things, but I haven’t experienced that myself. You might though. [Slim Traveler Pant – $47.04]( ($98.50) [Banana Republic Slim Traveler Pant]( Usually excluded from regular, run of the mill, 40% off promos. But not here. 4.7/5 stars after almost 2000 reviews. Two thousand! They’re a jean style chino made with some sort of high-recovery Italian stretch cotton. So, comfort of your favorite pair of jeans, only in chino like colors & finish. Lots of colors to pick from. Also offered in [Athletic Tapered]( and [Skinny](. [Full review here](. [Water-Repellent Quilted Vest – $81.12]( ($169) [BR Water Repellent Quilted Vest]( Well that looks mighty good. The fabric looks almost like an old-school twill? It’s a water resistant poly, but it doesn’t look shiny or slick or anything like that. Looks more like a vintage-y inspired workwear material. Less space age puffer. Nice dark hardware too. [Slim Stretch-Cotton Suit Jacket – $95.04]( ($198) [Slim Stretch-Cotton Suit Jacket]( Would 100% wear before any [leopard print nonsense](. Palm print, in a low(er) contrast blue-on-blue version like this, looks contemporary and almost… dashing? Look, it’s a risk, but no doubt it could work for a lot of you. Leopard print just screams velour sweat pants, KOOL cigarettes, and boxed white zinfandel. I’m good Janice, but thanks. [Hadley Italian Leather Brogue Oxford – $75.84]( ($158) [BR Hadley Oxford]( Inexpensive brogue bluchers. Are they gonna be the nicest shoes you ever buy? Probably not. Are they gonna look pretty darn good and can you wear the heck out of them without being overly worried about messing them up? You bet. [Water-Resistant Field Jacket – $109.92]( ($229) [BR Water Resistant Field Jacket]( Perfect for walking the dog, or taking a stroll with your S/O, or pushing your kids around in a stroller. If those things are currently allowed. The navy color and the dark hardware gives it a pretty sleek look. [Bombay Suede Belt – $28.56]( ($59.50) [BR Bombay Suede Belt]( I’ve said way too much about how much I personally like gray suede. Especially gray suede belts. [Slim Pique Blazer – $95.04]( ($198) [BR Slim Pique Blazer]( Sweet. Swazer. Action. Pique knit, so it’s got a bit of texture to it. All cotton. Wear the heck out of it. ESPECIALLY at home. It’s called enclothed cognition. [So yeah Pete. Even at home](. Now don’t that just blow the sailor hat off your dome. [Slim Traveler Chino – $52.32]( ($109) [BR Slim Traveler Chino]( New. A slightly dressier version of their enormously popular 5-pocket traveler pant. This time, cut in a business-ready chino. 98% cotton and 2% stretch. Enormously well reviewed already. [Nicklas Leather Sneakers – $66.24]( ($138) [BR Nicklas Leather Sneaker]( Everybody needs a pair of clean, white leather sneakers. These just happen to be less expensive than most. Nice blue heel tab. Only logo appears to be a subtle, tonal, stamped “Banana Republic” on the tongue. [Vintage Henley T-Shirt – $18.96]( ($39.50) Tri blend here, but perhaps not a blend you’re expecting: 65% polyester, 25% cotton, 10% flax (linen). Hits all those vintage notes just right. Which is probably why they’re calling it their “vintage” henley. Imagine that. [Slim Smart-Weight Performance Suit Jacket]( & [Matching Pant = $219.36]( ($457) [BR Smart Weight Performance Suit]( Big fan of subtle, blue plaid suits. They look great in both the warm weather and the cool weather months. This thing is from their lightweight line. Appears to be totally unlined in the back. Wool/poly blend. Easy to dress up or dress down, so you can go from kicking back to getting in front of a video conference call with ease. PLUS, since these are suit separates, you won’t need to have the pants hemmed. [9″ Slim Core Temp Short – $33.36]( ($69.50) [BR Core Temp Shorts]( Shorts time will come. These will be the shorts you’re looking for. Lots of colors. Same great, lightweight, cooling core-temp fabric [as the well loved pants](. Oh you’ll pay less for shorts. But every time you put those cheaper shorts on, you’ll wish you would have put on the core-temp shorts you have. [Nicklas Leather Sneakers – $61.44]( ($128) [BR Nicklas Leather Sneakers]( The popular, affordable Nicklas sneaker, here in rich black and tan leather. [Classic Denim Jacket – $47.28]( ($98.50) [BR Denim Jacket]( Classic for a reason. Look, things are still, overall, across all brands, a bit trendy this year. So while everyone else is wearing salmon varsity jackets with Narwhals on them, you (or I, or both) could wear a classic jean jacket. The end. [Motion Tech Shirt Jacket – $61.92]( ($129) [BR Motion Tech Shirt Jacket]( An alternative to the denim jacket. Why? Because some of us wear jeans a lot, and we get scared of “double denim.” (It’s a skill all Canadians possess, but few of the rest of the world do.) Lightly insulated. 4-way stretch. Looks like it could be a kinda perfect light weight spring piece of outerwear. [Hinto Italian Leather Bluchers – $76.32]( ($158) [BR Hinto Italian Leather Bluchers]( Sometimes you just want a super simple, incredibly versatile, blucher (not oxford) shoe that you can wear with just about everything. I’m pretty sure that welt is fake, but it’s great looking all the same. [Rapid Movement COOLMAX Jeans in Slim or Athletic Fit – $57.12]( ($119) [BR Rapid Movement COOLMAX Jeans]( Could be a major winner for those of us that run warm, and/or favor jeans even when it warms up a bit. [Water-Resistant Field Jacket – $109.92]( ($229) [BR Water-Resistant Field Jacket]( Has a matte cotton look and feel to it, although it’s a cotton/nylon blend for water resistance. A medium on my 5’10” / 195 lb frame is just on the edge between perfect and a little snug. But it’s a keeper. This kinda looks bad-ass. Like, [007 kinda bad ass](. Okay, not the same. But close! [Italian Leather Belt – $28.56]( ($59.50) [BR Italian Leather Belt]( Almost 200 reviews, and 4.5/5 stars. Think of it as a nicer, slightly dressier version of the GAP basic belts. [Performance Stretch Wool Slim Dress Pant – $56.64]( ($118) [BR Stretch Wool Dress Pants]( Extraordinarily well reviewed. BR’s stand alone wool dress pant. 99% wool and 1% elastane. Great for the office. Heck, great for anywhere. They look good with sneakers! (See above.) [Slim Dark Rinse Japanese Traveler Jean – $57.12](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5389&vid=1&pid=130452002) ($119) [B.R. Slim Dark Rinse Japanese Traveler Jean](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5389&vid=1&pid=130452002) The legend. After over one THOUSAND reviews on the BR site, these things still have a 4.6 out of 5 star rating. [Full review here](. [Core Temp Chinos – $47.04]( ($98) [BR Core Temp Chinos]( Oh you can buy the pants, but to get dat azzzzz [as shown at the very top of the post](? You’re gonna have to work for that, Pete. And it’s hard work. Hard enough work that your jaunty captain’s hat ain’t gonna stay on top of your damn head during all those burpees. Listen. I know you hear a LOT about these things. But BR does a lot of things right, and these are at the top of the list. Perfect with everything from a t-shirt and sneakers, to a sportcoat and suede boots. Frankly, these are the best all-around chinos out there. Bonobos is in the conversation, but most of us would still favor these for their cooling/temperature regulating properties. I wear mine year round. Often excluded from sales. Lightweight, breathable, and absurdly comfortable. [Full review here](. The 52% off everything, no BR Merch exclusions quiet-deal (no code needed) ends on 4/1. Love ya Pete. Happy sailing. ff/Dappered?a=cvZriSxOg30:jz8-EidzbQo:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=cvZriSxOg30:jz8-EidzbQo:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=cvZriSxOg30:jz8-EidzbQo:gIN9vFwOqvQ [In Review: Suitsupply “Classic Line” Oxford Dress Shoes](r/Dappered/~3/5zoUF6sdnyU/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 24 Mar 2020 08:00 AM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. He’s a thirtysomething Technical Trainer in the heating and manufacturing industry. He enjoys bourbon, boots, sneakers, raw denim, and being a dad! If you’ve been a Dappered reader for any length of time, or just a menswear enthusiast, you are probably [very familiar with Suit Supply](. They’re one of the few go-to menswear brands that excel in budget friendly suits, sport coats, and upscale casual clothing. SuSu has also offered dress shoes for a few years now, separated into three distinct categories – [Classic Line]( ($249), [Seasonal Line]( ($249-$399), and [Premium Line]( ($349-$449). Like their suiting lines, each grouping offers something different in terms of styling and level of materials, construction, details, and finishing. Sadly, real-world hands-on reviews of these shoes are few and far between, so let’s take a look at their entry level Classic Line’s dark brown Oxford shoes. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( The [Cap-toe Brogued Oxfords]( from their Classic line. Item Details - Brand: Suit Supply - Style: [Cap-toe brogued Oxfords]( - Size: 10 US (43 EU) - Last: N/A - Construction: Blake stitched - Leather: Italian calf - Sole: Leather and rubber combo sole and heel - Details: Punched brogue cap toes, blind eyelets - Extras: Flannel cotton shoe bags, spare laces - Country of Origin: Italy - Price: $249 USD About Adam’s Scoring System: The Adam Shoe Scale of Justice (A.S.S.J.) is as follows: 5 – Excellent! No issues and highly recommended. 4 – Good. Above average, but not perfect. 3 – Average. Minor issues, might be good at the right price. 2 – Fair. Below average due to defects, flaws, or imperfections. 1 – Poor. Significant issues, not worth purchasing at any price. Ordering/Delivery/Returns My pair of Oxfords was ordered on a Monday and arrived sometime that weekend. I’d consider this a normal delivery time frame for most of us, even if some of us are used to the “new normal” Prime free two-day shipping. That’s the exception, not the rule. FYI: Suit Supply offers a 30-day return on all unworn and unaltered attire, with return shipping included. Score: 5/5 Stars – Easy ordering, fast shipping, and simple returns. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( The box shot. You know it, you love it. Packaging Inside the nicely detailed, navy cardboard shoe box, you’ll find TWO flannel cotton shoe bags and a spare set of round, waxed laces. This is what you *should* expect when you start spending more than two bills. Bravo, Suit Supply design team. Also included is a card explaining basic shoe care and some information about the vegetable tanned leather and Blake stitch construction. Neat! Score: 5/5 Stars – At this price point, no complaints! First Impressions Design wise, the Suit Supply Oxfords are a cap-toe balmoral with some perforated brogue styling, very similar to the Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue but with some added punching and pinking along the top vamp to quarter seam. The toe shape is a more aggressively tapered almond – more of a Euro flair than the rounded almond commonly found on the Americanized Allen Edmonds and Alden shoes. The waist is quite aggressively tapered, too, and I think it looks great. The dark brown shade on the calf leather is pretty evenly dyed with an ever-so-slight burnishing at the toe and an overall slight glossy sheen. Style wise, I give them a ten out of ten. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( Toe is a little more tapered than Allen Edmonds. “Waist” is noticeably more tapered too. When it comes to the materials used, I have to dock them a few points. Overall, they just feel kinda cheap. The supposedly vegetable tanned calf leather is thinner than most other dress shoes in this price range and feels almost like plastic, almost as if it’s bookbinder leather or corrected grain (it’s not). Supple is a word that I would not use to describe it. For reference, the upper leather and full leather lining together are about as thick as my Vans canvas sneakers are. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( Leather for the uppers is thin and not very supple. Speaking of the lining, the paper-thin leather does feel nice and it runs the full length of the interior. The non-removable insole is leather wrapped as well, but there’s little to no cushioning beneath it aside from some lightweight foam underneath the heel. I CAN feel the Blake stitches running underneath the thin insole, so that may bother some people. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( Leather for the interior is pretty thin. Some will be able to feel the blake stitches running underneath the thin sole. In terms of construction, the upper stitching is very clean with no noticeably crooked or missed stitches. The leather and rubber composite outsole is cemented and Blake stitched to the upper assembly with roughly 180 degrees of stitching. Unlike higher end Blake or Goodyear stitched shoes where the stitches meet or run under the heel, these stitches end about an inch short missing the last two or three holes. A fair number of stitches are rough and exposed, protruding out from the stitching channel. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( Slim rubber for grip. Blake stitch got a little rough in some parts. While it might not be a huge quality concern at this stage, it just looks haphazardly done with little to no attention to detail in finishing. The leather and rubber combo heel is glued and nailed into place with just five nails. Of note, the wheeled leather welt is a fake welt. It’s simply glued to the outsole assembly without any Blake Rapid stitching (because this shoe is Blake stitched, not Blake Rapid or Goodyear Welted). Score: 3/5 Stars – Average materials and “meh” construction. No major issues, but not great. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( Whoops? Fit, Comfort, and Sizing These Oxfords fit SMALL. This pair was ordered as a 10 US (43 EU) per the size chart online and that’s what arrived, but they feel extremely tight. Wearing my normal mid-weight Darn Tough socks, I could barely fit my piggies into these without using a shoehorn. That’s quite unusual for me. Once on foot, the aggressively tapered toe and waist feel very constricting. I suggest sizing up a half-size from your normal dress shoe size. If you normally take a wide width, you’re probably out of luck here. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( These fit small. Size up a half size. If you’re a wide foot? Forget it. Comfort is always subjective but, in my opinion, these Oxfords are not that comfortable. Granted, they’re the wrong size, I’ve only worn them around the house for a few evenings, and haven’t broken them in, but they are in no way as comfortable as Alden, Allen Edmonds, or Spier and Mackay shoes. For reference, I am a 10.5 D/E on a Brannock device and usually take a 10 D in most dress shoes, including Alden’s Barrie last and Grant Stone’s Leo last. I take a 10.5 E in Allen Edmonds 65 last, as that last runs too narrow for me. I also take a 10.5 in Vans and an 11 in most Adidas or Nike sneakers. Score: 2/5 Stars – Fit and sizing are off for me, comfort is below average. [In Review: Suitsupply "Classic Line" Oxford Dress Shoes | Dappered.com]( Like a lot of fancy sports cars, they look great. But getting in and out of them [can be troublesome](. Final Thoughts In all honesty, there’s nothing inherently wrong with the Suit Supply Oxfords, but in the hand and on the foot, I just wasn’t impressed with the shoes. They look GREAT but they just feel cheap and uncomfortable. At the end of the day, I think you would be better off investing your money in something nicer from [Spier and Mackay](, [Grant Stone](, or [Allen Edmonds]( on sale. The [AE Fifth Ave]( and [Strand models]( regularly fall to under $300 through AE or Nordstrom and [seconds]( sometimes pop up for under $200. Plus, you’ll get higher quality uppers that you’ll actually want to keep with a resole! Avg. Score: 3.75/5 Stars – Sizing issues, cheaper materials, and so-so construction lower their value.
