Five of the better sales are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out. [Amazon: Peak Velocity Select Items Sale]( [Amazon Peak Velocity]( - [Peak Velocity Trackster Athletic-Fit Pant – $20.65]( ($27) - [Peak Velocity VXE Cloud Run Short Sleeve Quick-Dry Athletic-Fit T-Shirt – $18.96]( ($25) - [Peak Velocity Aeros Performance Quick-dry Athletic-Fit Polo – $20.82]( ($25) - [Peak Velocity Tech-Stretch Sleeveless Quick-Dry Loose-fit T-Shirt – $12.75]( ($15) - [Peak Velocity Novelty Jaquard Muscle Tee – $18.70]( ($22) - [Peak Velocity Men’s Thermal Long Sleeve Athletic-Fit Shirt – $24.65]( ($29) How’s that New Years Resolution going? Good? Awesome! Perhaps you need some new athletic wear. Amazon’s Peak Velocity brand, is surprisingly good. [Full review of the brand and select items from it can be found here](. Those “Trackster” Athletic Pants are the real deal. I have a pair in every color, and love ’em. BTW the only reason I know about this sale, is because I made the old review post a “featured” post, thinking it might be timely with New Years Resolutions starting to wobble for some, and thus, here we are. $20 for the Trackster pants is, frankly, absurdly kind. [DROP: Orient Kamasu is back – $179]( FINAL ($280) [Orient Kamasu]( DROP continues to call these things the “Mako III” as well as sells two distinctly different models, on the same product page, under the same (wrong) model name. At least they’re consistent. The GOOD news is that model #RA-AA0001B19B is the black version of the Kamasu diver. [Normally $280ish direct through Orient]( or a little [less at various]( third [party retailers](, the Kamasu is Orient’s toothier looking diver. 200m water, sapphire crystal, movement hacks and hand winds too. Sizing is a welcome by many medium diameter at 41.8mm. Lugs are 22mm. [Full review can be found here](. NOTE THAT SOME HAVE REPORTED CROWN ISSUES. As in, with use, when adjusting the time they can pull the thing straight off. So that could be a very big, and quite unfortunate, situation. Because since it’s DROP, there’s no warranty here. [Huckberry: Rhodes SUEDE Chukkas are on Sale – $138.98]( ($198)  [Head here for the full review](. Sized down half a size if you’re a normal width. They are, in fact, all that. [Banana Republic: Extra 60% off Sale Items]( [Banana Republic]( - [Slim Fit Rapid Movement Dark Wash Jeans – $39.99]( ($118) - [Athletic Tapered Rapid Movement Dark Wash Jeans – $39.99]( ($118) - [Waxed Canvas Large Tote – $47.19]( ($139) - [Vegan Suede Trucker Jacket – $67.19]( ($198) - [Slim Stripe Blazer – $70.38]( FINAL ($198) - [Booth Suede Brogue Boot – $60.39]( ($178) STILL going on. And I think some new stuff has been added to the sale section. The rapid movement jeans in dark rinse wash for under $40 is still kinda mind boggling. Those things used to be excluded quite a bit, and only 50% off ($59) when Friends and Family was running. [DROP: Kent Wang Polarized Sunglasses – $40]( FINAL ($55) [Kent Wang Polarized Sunglasses]( Kent Wang is known for their polos and excellent neckties. And now perhaps these? Almost two thousand of these things have been sold through DROP. This is the latest run. Two sizes here: 47mm and 50mm. Those aren’t real big. Best for medium to smaller faces. Estimated ship date is February 17. [BONUS Made in Italy Astorflex Greenflex at Guideboat & Co. – $74]( ($145) [Made in Italy Astorflex Greenflex]( WARNING: Shipping is an enormously steep $17.95 AND these won’t ship until 3/2? Seriously? March?? I’d consider these to be final sale with shipping that steep and a wait time that long. Fellas, I’m starting to think that Guideboat & Co. [isn’t doing so hot](. Anywho, these certainly appear to be [the very same Made in Italy Astorflex Greenflex chukkas that Huckberry carries](. So what’s the difference between these and [those Rhodes chukkas]( I got all excited about earlier in the post? These are much more casual. There’s less structure, and the natural crepe sole, with all its texture, makes sure of that. Sold in EU sizes. [Here’s a size converter via Zappos](//www.zappos.com/c/shoe-size-conversion). [BONUS II J. Crew: Extra 60% off select sale styles w/ SHOPNOW]() [J. Crew]() - [Washable merino wool waffle crewneck sweater – $32.39]( ($118) - [Ludlow Slim-fit shawl-collar dinner jacket in buffalo check Italian wool – $127.99]( ($398) - [Chore jacket in brushed lambswool – $43.59]( ($138)  - [Wallace & Barnes lightweight utility parka – $67.99]( ($228) - [Ventile trench coat – $143.56]( FINAL ($598) - [Trucker jacket in stretch corduroy – $33.19]( ($118) Another J. Crew clearance event, another stacked sale section, another instance where you get excited, you click, you scroll and scroll, and you realize that the vast majority of their sale section ISN’T up for the code. Ah well. Also worth a mention: - [Todd Snyder](//www.toddsnyder.com/collections/sale): Extra 40% off [sale items](//www.toddsnyder.com/collections/sale) w/ BIG40. Code expires tomorrow, 1/31. - [EXPRESS](//www.express.com/mens-clothing): 40% off Everything - [Spier and Mackay]( Extra 20% off sale items w/ SALE20 ff/Dappered?a=643Y9CboRXM:OTYOqwiJxKw:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=643Y9CboRXM:OTYOqwiJxKw:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=643Y9CboRXM:OTYOqwiJxKw:gIN9vFwOqvQ [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot](r/Dappered/~3/xXwNHtLLJas/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 29 Jan 2020 02:00 PM PST Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. [Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot in Brown]( or [Black – $278]( About the Author: [Adam Terry]( is Dappered’s resident shoe & denim expert. He’s a thirtysomething Technical Trainer in the heating and manufacturing industry. He enjoys bourbon, boots, sneakers, and raw denim. He’s also a new(ish) dad! We’ve covered Spier & Mackay’s Goodyear welted shoes before with a pair of their excellent [Double Monks](, as well as [their 2018 medallion toe oxfords](. For 2020, the Canadian brand known for suiting, sport coats, and dress shirts has added some “dressy business casual” [chukkas in suede]( and jumper boots in [dark brown]( and [black]( leather. Today we’re looking at the jumper boots to see how they stack up. Read on to find out! [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot | Dappered.com]( Available in Dark Brown or Black Details: - Brand: Spier & Mackay - Style: Cap-toe jumper boot - Size: 10.5 D - Last: N/A - Construction: Open Channel 360° Goodyear Welt - Leather: Full grain box calf from Weinheimer Leder (Germany) - Sole: One-piece studded rubber sole and heel - Details: Leather-covered foam heel pad, leather pull tabs, five eyelets and three speedhooks - Extras: One cotton flax-like shoe bag for storage and a plastic shoe horn - Country of Origin: Portugal - Price: $278 USD About Adam’s Scoring System: The Adam Shoe Scale of Justice (A.S.S.J.) is as follows: 5 – Excellent! No issues and highly recommended. 4 – Good. Above average, but not perfect. 3 – Average. Minor issues, might be good at the right price. 2 – Fair. Below average due to defects, flaws, or imperfections. 1 – Poor. Significant issues, not worth purchasing at any price. Ordering/Delivery/Returns: This pair of boots jumped out of the S&M warehouse on a Friday and parachuted onto my doorstep three days later. After ordering three different pairs of boots/shoes from them over the years, I remain impressed at S&M’s shipping and delivery speed. FYI: Spier & Mackay offers a 30 day return or exchange guarantee with free shipping and free return shipping on your first suit, sport coat, or shoe order. Score: 5/5 Stars [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot | Dappered.com]( World famous, obligatory box shot. Packaging: My pair arrived in a solid tan cardboard box with simple Spier & Mackay branding on the sides and lid. Inside, there’s one large branded cotton shoe bag for storage and a plastic tortoise shell shoe horn. While I’d prefer two storage bags – one for each boot – the one provided is large enough for both boots. There were no spare laces in my box but I’m not *that* disappointed. Score: 4/5 Stars – Throw in some spare laces and/or an extra boot bag! [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot | Dappered.com]( OOH. Okay. Those are something. First Impressions: When unwrapping the boots from the tissue paper envelope, I had to do a double take. The color and shine of the dark brown calfskin upper looks very similar to Horween’s Shell Cordovan in Color #8 – [there’s a hint of deep eggplant or burgundy to the color in certain lighting conditions](. The full grain, chrome tanned hide from Germany is firm and meticulously polished, including the conservative cap toe up front and leather [pull tabs around back](. There were no visible defects or issues with the leather. [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot | Dappered.com]( Simple cap toe. The tan [leather lining]( seems to be high quality and the leather-wrapped heel pad has some foam cushioning underneath. The non-removable leather insoles feel dense and durable enough to last years. The antique bronze eyelets and polished speed hooks add a little pop of color against the swath of dark brown. The round, waxed laces are also dark brown and feel good in the hand – just the right width for the dress boots. [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot | Dappered.com]( Studded rubber sole. Goodyear welted. The studded rubber sole and heel combo is essentially a knockoff of Dainite’s excellent design [from 1894](, but in a softer and bouncier execution. The soles are cleanly machine stitched without error. Of note, I believe the heels are simply glued on. I don’t see any nails in the molded nail hole locations. Score: 5/5 Stars – Great! Well made from above average materials and construction. Fit, Comfort, and Sizing: The S&M last runs long and lean, as it’s a sleek dress shoe last. It features a snug heel, slightly wider toe box, and a subtly rounded “almond” toe similar to Allen Edmond’s 65 last used for their Strand and Park Avenue models. Spier & Mackay recommends that you try a half-size up from your regular dress shoe size for these jumper boots, and I agree. This pair in 10.5D feels slightly tight with medium weight Darn Tough dress socks, but feels fine with thinner dress socks. Those who prefer thick socks or those with significantly wider fittings may feel cramped in these as they do run a little narrow. They’re currently only available in a standard D width fitting. [In Review: The Spier & Mackay Jumper Boot | Dappered.com]( A sleek, lean shape. Try a half size up. Comfort is entirely subjective. The jumper boots were a little stiff out of the box, but started to soften up after 15 minutes or so. Over time, the leather insole and cork filling will break in and mold to your feet. For reference, I am a 10.5 D/E on a Brannock device and usually take a 10 D in most dress shoes, including Alden’s Barrie last and Grant Stone’s Leo last. I take a 10.5 E in Allen Edmonds 65 last, as that last runs too narrow for me. I also take a 10.5 in Vans and an 11 in most Adidas or Nike sneakers. Score: 5/5 Stars – They run long and lean, so you may need to size up if you’re a wide width. Final Thoughts: I highly recommend the Spier & Mackay Jumper boots. They’re beautiful, well-made boots at a solid price point. Another win for Spier, and another great addition to their growing line of shoes (and now boots). If you end up trying these, let us know what you think! They’re probably best paired with slim or tapered dress slacks, dress chinos, or “nice” jeans. Avg. Score: 4.75/5 Stars – Very good and highly recommended! [Timex MK1 Chronograph – $79.99](//www.sierra.com/timex-black-mk1-stainless-steel-chronograph-watch-42mm-fabric-strap-for-men~p~860dc/?filterString=mens-watches~d~9404%2F) ($139) NOTE: Sierra has these for $80 at post time, but in case they run out, [you can get one for $110 direct through Timex](. The MK1 chrono here is shown on a green aftermarket NATO strap. Lugs are 20mm. You can find a similar strap [here](. Around 10-15 years ago, someone in Timex’s design department must have been digging through the company’s archives, a lightbulb went off inside their head, and thus marched straight into a staff meeting shouting: “EUREKA. I’VE GOT IT! Our strategy moving forward? You can’t plagiarize yourself!” And they’ve been on a run ever since by way of updating some of their timeless designs. The MK1 does just that, once again. The [standard Timex MK1]( is a reproduction of a military-issued watch they made a few decades ago, except now they’re quartz and feature indiglo technology. [This particular watch](//www.sierra.com/timex-black-mk1-stainless-steel-chronograph-watch-42mm-fabric-strap-for-men~p~860dc/?filterString=mens-watches~d~9404%2F) is basically Timex’s effort to turn that design into a chronograph. I was drawn to this design because it looks very much like a much more expensive watch from the likes of Tutima, Sinn, or some early Breitlings, and if you shop around, you can snag one of these suckers for less than 100 bucks. [In Review: The Timex MK1 Chronograph Watch | Dappered.com](//www.sierra.com/timex-black-mk1-stainless-steel-chronograph-watch-42mm-fabric-strap-for-men~p~860dc/?filterString=mens-watches~d~9404%2F) Face & Crystal As I said above, the watch is based on an older military design, and so what you’re getting is a crisp, supremely readable design with great contrast. I like that I can look down and immediately tell the time, which can be tricky with some of the busier chronographs out there. Even though the watch is equipped with Timex’s excellent indiglo technology, the triangular indicies and the main hands are also coated in a luminous material. While nowhere near a Seiko diver in terms of brightness and longevity, they are sufficient to tell the time in a dark movie theater or lecture hall. The crystal is acrylic, which many people don’t seem to care for, but I quite like. It’s very warm-feeling, and correct for the period Timex was attempting to emulate. I think acrylic gets a bit of a bad name because it scratches incredibly easy, but it’s also shatter resistant and you can [remove the scratches by polishing it with toothpaste](. I’ve now worn mine for about three months (including on a couple field training events), and with the occasional buffing, mine still looks new. [In Review: The Timex MK1 Chronograph Watch | Dappered.com](//www.sierra.com/timex-black-mk1-stainless-steel-chronograph-watch-42mm-fabric-strap-for-men~p~860dc/?filterString=mens-watches~d~9404%2F) Case The case is a black coated stainless steel, with a standard caseback. For some reason they decided [to keep the chronograph pushers and crown shiny](, but I don’t mind. For your money you get 30 meters of water resistance. While I wouldn’t go scuba diving with it, I’ve worn it in the pouring rain and the shower with no issue. At 42mm wide, it is extremely wearable while still having a very masculine, military presence. Below I’ve included it next to a [Bulova Devil Diver]( and one of the new [Seiko 5KX/5 Sports watches](. You can see that it fits right in. It stands up to being sandwiched between two robust automatic watches, although the fact that it’s quartz makes it substantially lighter. Some people might love that fact. Some might miss the feel of a bit of weight to their watch. [In Review: The Timex MK1 Chronograph Watch | Dappered.com](//www.sierra.com/timex-black-mk1-stainless-steel-chronograph-watch-42mm-fabric-strap-for-men~p~860dc/?filterString=mens-watches~d~9404%2F) The Stock Strap ([shown only here](… shudders) I could not get the stock strap off this watch fast enough. It’s absolutely heinous. The watch came packaged [on what appeared to be an acid washed denim band]( that just looked and felt awful. I immediately switched it out [for an olive green NATO strap](, which suits the military character of the watch extremely well. Feel free to use any 20mm strap, as the dull colors of the watch make matching easy. Closing Thoughts Would I buy this watch again? Absolutely! The quality is good, the style is great, and the chronograph function is smooth and easy to use. Out of my growing watch collection, this simple Timex still finds regular wear, particularly because my job requires a discreet and dependable watch, which this most certainly is.
