[Dappered | 10 Best Bets for $75 or Less – Suedey Bombers, Goodfellow Tech Chinos, & More]() --------------------------------------------------------------- - [10 Best Bets for $75 or Less – Suedey Bombers, Goodfellow Tech Chinos, & More](#1) - [Style Scenario: What to wear to the rehearsal dinner](#2) - [10 Men’s Style Things to Change Up for Spring / Summer](#3) [10 Best Bets for $75 or Less – Suedey Bombers, Goodfellow Tech Chinos, & More](r/Dappered/~3/o6ndIeVpono/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 23 Apr 2019 03:00 AM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. [Here’s why.]( Seventy Five bucks. That’s a lot of money. It’ll get you [a couple pairs of Levi’s](, a [decent casual dinner out](, or a couple months at your local gym. Ten picks follow, all for $75 or under, with some of them much, much less. Expect these round-ups on a monthly basis. Got a tip on something for under $75? Send those in to [joe@dappered.com](mailto:joe@dappered.com?subject=under 75). [Target Goodfellow & Co. Tech Chino – $29.99]( [Target Goodfellow & Co. Tech Chino]( Huge potential here. And the fabric blend is promising: 52% Cotton, 44% Nylon, 4% Spandex. If they woulda been 100% poly, I would have raised an eyebrow. But a cotton blend could end up leading to something that’s sorta like the BR Core Temp, for much less. Slim Fit. Efforting an in person. Available in Gray, Black, Blue, and the Green shade shown above. [Brokers Gin]( & [Q Tonic](, or [Campari]( & Soda [Dappered.com]( Two ways to tone down the sugar in your summer cocktails. Get off the high fructose corn syrup saddled crap tonic, and try Q instead. It’s half as sweet, and uses carefully selected botanicals. Good enough to drink on its own. Brokers? Brokers is cheap. And it’s damn good. Meanwhile, if you want to sip on something flavorful but a bit more slow paced on the alcohol, try a Campari and Soda. Campari is an Italian bitter liquer that’s about half as boozy as most 40% ABV liquors. And soda water? No sugar there. If you’re really pacing yourself, have mostly soda on ice, throw an orange rind in there, and top with a little Campari. [Banana Republic Factory Vegan Suede Bomber Jacket – $100ish]( [Banana Republic Factory Vegan Suede Bomber Jacket]( From BR’s Factory outlet line, but still available on the web. Has dropped to as low as $50 with sales. From reader Gregory W.: Just picked this jacket up and it’s a winner. It’s not too light and not too heavy, definitely one of those in-betweener jackets. The vegan suede looks as real as you can get along with being machine washable. [Wrought Iron Desk Lamp w/ Dimmer Switch]( + [LED Edison Bulbs = $48.98]( [Wrought Iron Desk Lamp w/ Dimmer Switch]( A smart man once told me that overhead lights are highly overrated. And he’s right. And now that the sun is staying out later, and there’s more dusk, having some solid, transitional, accent lighting is coming in awfully handy. [The lamp is just the lamp](. No bulbs. But it does come with a dimmer switch (a must). And for the bulbs, you get four warm, not excruciatingly bright, [LED Edison Bulbs in the pack suggested](. [UNIQLO Airism Button Down Collar Polo – $29.90]( [UNIQLO Airism Button Down Collar Polo]( A preview of one of the highlights from this years Polopalooza. SIZE DOWN. Strongly consider sizing down. A couple years ago, a medium fit my then 175 lb frame just fine. Now? I’m closer to 200lbs. And a medium, which is the size shown above? Fits my 200lb frame just fine. Go figure. Drops to $19.90 during sales. [Machine Era Solid Brass Pen – $25]( Final ($38) [Machine Era Solid Brass Pen]( Pint sized dyn-o-mite. A really nifty little pen. Got one of these for myself during one of the previous drops, and I love it. Compact size but a nice bit of weight to it. Writes like a dream and feels great in the hand. PLUS, the end is threaded, as is the inside of the cap, so it “posts” when you’re using the thing, and thus, the cap won’t go rolling about all over your desk, tray table, etc. On sale at Massdrop, so, final sale. [Timex x Todd Snyder Blackjack or Mod Watches – $74]( ($148) [Timex x Todd Snyder Blackjack or Mod Watches]( The spring sale might be over, but these are still hanging out in the sale section at half off. Kinda surprised that these got a 50% cut. Leather band here, while most of these usually come with a NATO strap (which is plenty easy to source on your own if that’s more your thing). [adidas Tiro Soccer Training Pants – $35 – $50]( [adidas Tiro Soccer Training Pants]( Cheapish warm-up pants that don’t FEEL cheap. Super flexible, well ventilated, and to the touch they feel like performance gear, and NOT a garbage bag. Plus zipper pockets help keep your keys and wallet from sliding out if you burst into a wind sprint, or, take a seat on a toilet (and then burst into a “wind sprint”). [Some of you might call these “joggers”](. I’d argue they’re more warm up pants, thanks to the extremely convenient zipper at the ankle, which unlike joggers, means you can actually get the damn things on and off with ease. Plus, they aren’t made of crappy cotton terry material. Quite the opposite. Joggers look like you stole your Ma’s Saturday night Haagen Daaz + Shiraz (trademark pending for a Hallmark channel week-long sponsor) lounge-wear. These look like superhero pants. [Moroccan Chicken and Carrots]( [Moroccan Chicken and Carrots]( A warmer weather, spicier take on chicken and vegetables. And you can do it all in one cast iron pan too. The richness of the chicken thighs goes awfully well with the cumin, coriander, and cinnamon. If you’re not used to using Marcona almonds, they might take a little while to find at a specialty grocery store (or, Whole Foods if you have one in your area), and please for the love of all things good and holy, use rainbow or regular carrots. Not lifeless, flavorless, baby carrots. Make it once and you’ll find yourself keeping cumin and coriander in the house so you can make it time and time again. [Sunski Topekas in Matte Whiskey Tortoise / Ocean Lenses – $68]( [Sunski Topekas in Matte Whiskey Tortoise / Ocean Lenses]( A pair of sunglasses that’ll look just as good with a sportcoat and chinos, as it would with a pair of running shoes and a tech shirt and shorts combo. Plus they’re built to wear while active too. Lightweight but durable. Traction pads on the nose bridge. Polarized lenses. Colorway shown above is an exclusive to Huckberry. [Here’s why.]( What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. It’s wedding season. And perhaps you’re one of the ones getting hitched. Huge congrats to [Dappered Contributor Brandon D.]( and his lovely wife on their recent nuptials. Also, a huge thanks to him (and her!) for being up for submitting what Brandon wore to their rehearsal dinner as a style scenario. Below you’ll find his outfit, and some terrific advice on the rehersal dinner, as well as the big day. Photo credits here go out to [Amy Gawlik of AL Gawlik Photography](. [Style Scenario: What to wear to the rehearsal dinner | Dappered.com] The Suit: [Spier & Mackay Super 120s Merino Navy Suit – $328]( What more can I say about [the Dappered 2018 Suit of the Year](? For the price point, Spier & Mackay’s “essential” and “core” suits simply can’t be beat. Half canvas construction, great fabrics, timeless lapels, easy to tailor sleeve cuff buttons, etc. Of course, you can opt for a less traditional color. But as the groom? If your fiancée is wearing white, navy is the perfect compliment. The Shirt: [Lands’ End Tailored Fit White Solid No Iron Supima Pinpoint Spread Collar Dress Shirt – $32.97](//www.landsend.com/products/mens-solid-no-iron-supima-pinpoint-spread-collar-dress-shirt/id_257371?sku_0=::LBL) when 40% off ($54.95). So why not go with the more popular and [also affordable option from Nordstrom]( For me, it’s easy. Those don’t fit me. And these do. Sometimes, it’s just that simple. The Socks: [Nordstrom Men’s Shop Navy Over-the-Calf Wool Socks – $14.50](. On the other hand, there’s no substitute for these high quality, wool, over-the-calf socks from Nordstrom. As the groom, the matching socks will streamline your look, make you appear taller, and keep everyone’s focus where it belongs: your soon-to-be spouse. The Shoes: [Allen Edmonds Burgundy/Oxblood McAllister Wingtips – $249]( ($395). Perhaps [the most versatile pair of shoe](s on the market, these are a nice break from the traditional black and brown options in your closet. Currently getting a big discount thanks to the Anniversary Sale, which happens to end this week. The Belt: [Allen Edmonds Matching Dress Belt – $83]( ($98). Of course, you belt doesn’t have to precisely match your shoes. And breaking out just about a Benjamin for a belt is a rare sight in the Dappered community. But if there’s ever a time to splurge on an item you can use all the time, will stand the test of time, and just looks good, it’s when you’re getting married. The Underwear: [Uniqlo Airism Grey V-Neck Undershirt]( cgid=men-airism-collection) and [Boxer Briefs (any color) – $9.90]( cgid=men-airism-collection-boxer-briefs) per item. You may have read that [I’m a big fan]( of the Airism line. They keep you cool and dry, and they’re way more affordable than their Lululemon (don’t knock it till you try it!) counterparts. Plus a grey undershirt is far, FAR less likely to show through than a white undershirt. Promise. The Watch: [TAG Heuer Monaco (it’s a splurge)](//www.jomashop.com/watches-tag-heuer-watches-tag-heuer-monaco-series.html). For me, this watch was a gift from me to me (an underrated way to get exactly what you want!) for my six years with my first grownup job. So it’s special. Regardless of the watch you choose, you can’t go wrong with one that’s meaningful to you. But if you like the look of the Monaco, and just not the price? [Know that there are alternatives](. The Groomsmen Gifts: Personal gifts (varying prices). Notice that I didn’t say personalized. Instead of a monogrammed flask, consider budget-friendly gifts that are personal to each friend and/or your relationships to them. For me, that included some great options from [Bespoke Post]( the [American Eagle Tailgate Collection]( navdetail=mega:cat8080002), [Bender Bound](, and [the NES Classic](, to name a few. And of course include gag gifts, which for me were [matching fanny packs]( since all of my groomsmen are dads. The Date: Your Fiancée! Sure, it’s your last night as a technically single man. But outside of saying “I do.”, this is the easiest decision you’ll make all weekend. Bonus! The Big Day: According the old rules, the groom and his groomsmen all need to wear matching tuxedos for a black tie wedding. But now? Let your groomsmen buy or rent the tuxedo of their choosing. With [The Black Tux]( as an option, your friends and their wallets will appreciate it. Plus, you also won’t look like you’re all off to prom. And as the groom, when you’re saving on your tux, you can splurge on that [SuitSupply velvet dinner jacket]( you’ve [been eyeing to break out at the party](. Editor’s Note: Congrats again to Brandon D. and his beautiful wife on their recent wedding. And thanks to them once again for wanting to use their rehearsal dinner as a style scenario for our little website. We’re honored! And once again, top photo credit goes to [Amy Gawlik of AL Gawlik Photography](. ff/Dappered?a=WT8_YFA6S0s:5oUw40XSFu0:yIl2AUoC8zA ff/Dappered?a=WT8_YFA6S0s:5oUw40XSFu0:qj6IDK7rITs ff/Dappered?a=WT8_YFA6S0s:5oUw40XSFu0:gIN9vFwOqvQ [10 Men’s Style Things to Change Up for Spring / Summer](r/Dappered/~3/PGsJTxBIaVk/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email) Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:00 AM PDT Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. [Here’s why.]( Winter is (hopefully) dead. Many of us are looking at our closets, chock full of heavy wools, boots, and dark denim, and we’re thinking: it’s time to make the switch. It’s time to take the cold weather stuff, [pack it up, pack it in]( and [get setup]( for the warmer months. Weep not for your tweeds & lambswool sweaters. [You shall see them again](. And fear not, since their alternatives will be more comfortable to wear, while also looking better among the bright sun & [laid back vibes]( of spring & summer. Here are ten switches to consider making once spring decides to stick around. Your Pants: Jeans –> Lightweight Cotton/Tech/Linen/Tropical Wool Pants [Dappered.com](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1105419&pcid=35878&vid=1&pid=320597042) - [Banana Republic Core Temp Chinos – $58.80](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1105419&pcid=35878&vid=1&pid=320597042) when 40% off ($98) - [J.C.F Lightweight Flex Chinos in Slim or Straight Fit – $30ish]( - [Spier & Mackay Tropical Wool “Fresco” Trousers – $128]( - [Spier and Mackay Cotton/Linen Trousers – $128]( - [Bonobos Oxford Cloth Stretch Chinos – $70.40]( w/ ECLIPSE20 ($88) - [GAP Cotton/Linen Khakis – $41.97](//www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=440970022&cid=1084650&pcid=11900) when 40% off ($69.95) This is a tough one for jeans addicts, but denim, even if it’s in a trendier, lighter wash, can feel awfully weighty and suffocating once the mercury heads north. The key here is to not just switch to chinos, but chinos that are specifically designed for the warmer months. Look for the words “summer weight” or “light weight” in product descriptions. Or? An infusion of linen helps air out otherwise dense cotton chinos too. Maybe even a tech chino. It makes all the difference. Your Suits: Navy & Charcoal –> Med. Blue & Light Gray [SuitSupply]( - [Suitsupply Napoli Fit Mid Blue Suit – $399]( - [Black Lapel Light Gray Fresco Suit – $599]( - [Suitsupply Lazio Fit Mid Gray Suit – $569]( - [Spier and Mackay Light Gray Tropical Wool Suit – $348]( - [Spier and Mackay Postal Blue Suit – $348]( Navy and charcoal are always appropriate for job interviews and other important occasions, but for daily wear, or, if you’re headed out for a nice dinner? Switch to a color that’s less London financial district in December. There are a TON of medium blue options out there these days, and the pale, almost dove gray look is catching up quick. Your Shoes: Heavy Leather Boots –> Suede Shoes & Chukkas [Suede shoes]( - [Allen Edmonds Nomad Suede Chukka – $225]( ($375) - [Banana Republic Nyle Italian Lace-Up Oxford – $94.80](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=424343012&cid=1032803&pcid=1032801) ($158) - [Nordstrom 1901 Stucker Bucks – $109.95]( - [Banana Republic Suede Wingtips – $94.80](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1030875&pcid=13846&vid=1&pid=266941022&tid=braff4025845&ap=2&siteID=brafcid11555231&cvosrc=affiliate.cj.4025845) ($158) Bye sh*t kicking boots. See you in September. Meanwhile, suede, with its matte texture, helps reflect the casual feel of the season, all while not reflecting the sun’s rays. Look for lighter weight (physically and visually) shoes for the warmer months. And chukkas? Don’t dismiss chukkas. [They can look and feel great in the warm weather](. Your Sportcoats: Tweed/Thick Wool –> Lightweight Wools, Linen, or Cotton [Dappered.com]( - [Bonobos Unconstructed Italian Hopsack Wool Sportcoat – $320 – $360]( w/ ECLIPSE20 ($400 – $450) - [Spier & Mackay Linen/Wool Windowpane Sportcoat – $348]( - [J. Crew Factory Cotton/Linen Sportcoat – $99ish]( - [Suitsupply Havana Fit Linen Blend Sportcoats – $399 – $499]( As much as some of us love [an updated, dark blue blazer](… even those get shelved for most of the summer. Unless there’s an unusually cold stretch or it’s after dark and plenty cool out, be sure to favor lighter-weight wools, linen, or crisp cotton sportcoats. And the less lining the better. Your Hair: Long –> Short [Dappered.com] No, you don’t have to go full buzz cut. But if you do, more power to you. Ask your barber or stylist for a shorter version of what you’ve been carrying around all winter. Plus, reducing your scalp sweater can help keep you cooler. Less hair = less product = less weight and better air flow. Your Sweaters: Heavy Wool –> Lightweight Merino, Cotton, or Linen [Banana Republic Sweaters](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=425941002&cid=1127884&pcid=13846) - [B.R. Supima Cotton Button-Shoulder Sweater – $59.10](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=425941002&cid=1127884&pcid=13846) ($98.50) - [B.R. Silk Linen Stripe Sweater – $47.70](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=425858002&rrec=true&mlink=5050,12413545,broos1_rr_7&clink=12413545) ($79.50) - [UNIQLO Extra Fine Merino V – $39.90]( lightweight and perfect for year round) - [J.C.F. Chunky Cardigan Sweater in Marled Cotton – $45ish]() Heavy winter sweaters are probably the first thing to hit storage once spring rolls around. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea to have a couple options on hand for cool nights and the occasional cold snap. For fabric, think lightweight merino (or, if you’re splurging, cashmere) and linen blends. Cotton is good too, just be aware that thicker knits can get swampy if it warms back up while you’re wearing it. Your Belts: Heavy Leather –> Cotton, Ribbon, or Suede [Jomers Made in the USA Sagamore Cotton Macrame]( - [Jomers Made in the USA Sagamore Cotton Macrame – $20]( - [Banana Republic Stretch Belt – $32.70](//bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=423383042&searchText=green) ($54.50) - [BB#1 Stripe Ribbon Belt – $48](//www.brooksbrothers.com/BB%231-Stripe-Ribbon-Belt/MV00244,default,pd.html?dwvar_MV00244_Color=REDN&contentpos=1&cgid=) - [Suitsupply Gray Suede Belt – $59]( Like switching from boots and smooth leather dress shoes to suede chukkas and wingtips, losing some weight at the belt line is also a good idea. While some guys might be afraid that one of these belts won’t match their shoes (because you’re “supposed” to match your belt to your shoes), this is where that rule has wiggle room. Working a woven belt in with suede shoes or leather loafers shouldn’t clash too much. In fact, the opposite is true. Sometimes that contrast can look terrific. Just don’t take it too far (i.e. black polished oxfords with a cotton woven belt or something). Your Watchstrap: Leather –> Rubber/Fabric NATO [Dappered.com]( - [Clockwork Synergy NATO Strap – $17.49]( - [Crown and Buckle HD NATO Strap – $15.00]( - [Maratac Silicone Deployment Clasp Strap – 18.00]( Not only can this give an old, favorite watch a new look and therefor new life… it can also prevent stanky sweat funk from infiltrating your leather strap. Rubber/Nylon/Cloth straps are just easier to wash and won’t rot out like leather will after repeated submerging. BUT… if you do end up with a stinky leather watch band? Try washing your strap gently with some [saddle soap](. Watch shown above is the sadly out of production [old Seiko SNZJ series](. But you could always get [the cheap Casio Diver]( and slap it on the same strap. Would look just as good. Your Ties: Smooth Silk or Wool  –> Knit Silk/Linen/Chambray [Dappered.com](//www.thetiebar.com/product/34333?ResultCount=3) - [TheTieBar Chambray Tie – $19.00](//www.thetiebar.com/product/34333?ResultCount=3) - [TheTieBar Pointed Tip Knit Ties – $25](//www.thetiebar.com/ties?material=silk-knit) - [Suitsupply Cotton/Silk Knit Striped Tie – $69]( - [Kent Wang Knit Navy Tie with White Dots – $70]( Sun’s out? Skip the shine. Work in a knit silk ([007 approved no less](), linen, or cotton tie. It’ll spring-up and summerfy even the most sober of suits or sportcoats. Your Underwear: Cotton –> Something wicking and quick drying [Dappered.com]( - [UNIQLO Mesh Airism Boxer Briefs – $9.90]( - [Ex-Officio Give-N-Go Brief – $42.99]( per 2/pack If you’re not gonna make the switch during swamp-ass season, then you have no hope. FOR THE WIND AND THE RAIN MAN, MAKE THE SWITCH. Please. Your deserve a serene perineum.
