He’s calling on Republicans and Democrats to stop the political games and negotiate a compromise to raise the nation’s debt ceiling, as well as pass a responsible national budget. Dan needs to hear from you, especially on which parts of the latest Republican cuts proposed to health care, veterans benefits and early childhood education you’re concerned about. Answer by midnight tomorrow: [( --------------------------------------------------------------- Here’s Dan’s original message: In less than a month, unless Congress acts, the U.S. will default on its obligations. This would be devastating for Michigan’s working families—defaulting on our nation’s debt could trigger a job-killing recession, mean higher out-of-pocket costs because of rising interest rates, and potentially crash the stock market in a way that would hurt the retirement security of older Americans. Both parties must come together to both raise the debt ceiling and pass a responsible national budget. Paying our nation’s bills should not be a partisan issue, {NAME}. But since the start of the new Congress, there have been no serious proposals put forward to address this looming deadline. Instead, Republicans have proposed extreme cuts that would eliminate jobs, hurt our economy and take away health care from veterans. Congress should not be playing political games with the full faith and credit of the United States. [If you agree, will you add your name and let me know which of these proposed Republican cuts you are most concerned about?]( [Answer Here→]( Congress has, dozens of times, raised the debt limit, including under both Republican and Democratic presidents. Under former President Trump, Republicans ran up trillions of dollars of debt and voted to raise the debt limit three times, all while giving a huge unpaid for tax cut to the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations. Going into default would send the U.S. economy into a tailspin. America wouldn’t be able to pay Social Security and Medicare benefits, the salaries of service members, or for health care of those on Medicaid. It would signal to the world that the U.S. can’t be counted on to meet its obligations. The time for political games is long over. Congress needs to act immediately to both raise the debt ceiling and pass a responsible national budget that reduces the deficit in the long-term while focusing on working families, not the wealthy and well-connected. If you agree, I need to hear from you. Please answer my survey today: [( Thank you, Dan --------------------------------------------------------------- Congressman Dan Kildee – a Flint native – is proud to represent mid-Michigan.
