In 2020, Attorney General Dana Nessel filed charges against Andrew Clark and David John, who worked as technicians, for creating fake documents to show that they completed certain diagnostic tests and repairs on two DataMaster instruments for calibration and performance. Clark was sentenced Thursday to serve 36 months probation with the first nine months served in the Eaton County Jail. Which side is more radical: the one working to unravel fundamental rights we've had for 50 years, or the one that merely wants to preserve those rights? Democratic attorneys general and candidates are zeroing in on abortion access as a campaign issue after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and left decisions on abortion access to the states. As the top legal authority in their respective states, attorneys general are the figures who decide whether to enforce the ruling in their states. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) has said she will not be prosecuting abortions. Democrats argue the decision allows them to flip the script on Republicans, who have continuously painted them as radical on a number of cultural issues. âWhatâs radical is what each and every one of our opponents wants to do, which is to prosecute providers, and in some states, like mine, women who are seeking abortion care can also be prosecuted,â Nessel told reporters. âI donât think weâre going to have to do much to highlight those differences,â she continued. âI think the public will know which side is radical and which side merely wants to preserve the rights that weâve had in this country for 50 years now.â [READ MORE]( Julia Manchester, The Hill (June 28, 2022) AG races focus on abortion Retrieved from: [AG races focus on abortion]( --------------------------------------------------------------- AG Nessel Accepts Award from Childrenâs Advocacy Centers of Michigan I am proud to be a partner in the Children's Advocacy Centers of Michigan's work to protect children and help them heal. This ruling undermines science-backed governance & will no doubt threaten reasonable environmental regulations. Turning a blind eye to climate change will not fix it. We must work with the EPA to protect our communities. A ruling from the Supreme Court of the United States cut back the statutory authority of federal agencies, including the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to protect public health, safety and the environment from severe threats, including the clear and present danger of climate change. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement in response: âWhen I took office, I immediately removed Michigan from this lawsuit and three others because combating harmful pollution with science-backed governance must be a priority as elected officials. Turning a blind eye will not erase the present national and global emergency we are experiencing, and I stand with the other states that have supported the EPA â and will continue to do so â in our continued fight to protect our residents and communities.â Since Nessel took office in 2019, actions to properly address climate change and environmental threats became a priority. Most recently, Nessel reached a settlement with Consumers Energy where Consumers pledged to end its use of coal by 2025. The settlement was approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission last week. In April, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer unveiled the MI Healthy Climate Plan to create good-paying jobs, protect air and water. Michigan is a current leader in clean energy jobs as a proportion of the stateâs total workforce. Nessel, through partnership with other state agencies, is committed to keeping it that way. I encourage eligible consumers to file with us right away to secure these reimbursements. Tourists who booked hotel stays with a water park in Mackinaw City and didn't get what they paid for during the last five winters will be eligible for refunds. Several tourists complained to the Michigan Attorney General's Office and Better Business Bureau that they booked stays at a hotel after the summer tourism season with promises of using a year-round water park. However, tourists say they were told when they arrived for check-in that the water park was closed for the season. They were offered a room at another hotel, but told no refunds were available. The agreement covers nearly 30 hotels in and around Mackinaw City from engaging in deceptive reservation tactics. The hotels also are required to remove any references to an "official seal" from the Mackinaw City Chamber of Tourism from their websites and add a new statement identifying them as family-owned. Tourists who can prove they were defrauded when booking a hotel stay with water park entry during the offseason from 2017 to 2022 now have 90 days to submit claims for reimbursement.
