[DANA NESSEL - THE PEOPLE'S LAWYER]( {NAME}, I am heartbroken for all my fellow parents who are once again reminded how vulnerable our beautiful and innocent children continue to be in their own schools. I am heartbroken for my friends who fear the simple tasks of going to the grocery store or to the movie theater. I am heartbroken for all of us who fear going to church. I’m grieving for Uvalde, TX; Buffalo, NY; and Laguna, CA – and for the hundreds of towns that have had mass shootings this year alone. It’s hard to wrap my head around the 200+ shootings that have happened in just 5 short months. But I can promise you this: As the People’s Lawyer, I vow to do everything in my power to end this epidemic of violence and protect the safety, health, and wellbeing of all our state’s residents. Hate crimes and acts of domestic terrorism are on the rise, especially in Michigan -- the home of the militia movement. I’ve watched dangerous radicals – and even mainstream MAGA Republicans – stoke racially, ethnically, politically, and religiously motivated violence. I’ve already established the first AG state unit solely focused on Hate Crimes and Domestic Terrorism to help fight against gun violence. And I’m going to fight like hell to ensure Matt DePerno, who opposes all firearms regulations, will NEVER become the top law enforcement official in our state. We must do better to safeguard the people of the Great Lakes State and I’m committed to continuing the great work my office has already started, which is why your support is so key.
