Hey {NAME}, Did you see this note from Dana on Tuesday? Yesterday, she argued this case, Rouch World

[DANA NESSEL - THE PEOPLE'S LAWYER]( Hey {NAME}, Did you see this note from Dana on Tuesday? Yesterday, she argued this case, Rouch World v. Michigan Dept. of Civil Rights, before the Michigan Supreme Court – affirming LGBTQ+ civil rights in Michigan and fighting to protect our family, neighbors, and friends from discrimination. [But all that progress could be on the line should she lose her bid for re-election in November, and the GOP knows it.]( They’re pulling out all the stops to defeat her, because they know if she loses, they can dial back the clock. [We can’t let that happen, {NAME}. If you haven’t, give Dana’s note a read, and rush $10 to keep her fighting for these must-win victories! >>]( [CHIP IN NOW >>]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Begin Forward: {NAME}, The United States Constitution guarantees us equal treatment under the law, as does Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. But just because the words were written and ratified does not mean they are enforced or observed. When other branches of government shirk their constitutional responsibilities, it becomes incumbent upon the courts to advise our officials on how they should and must apply the principle of equal protection in all their endeavors. I’ve fought for the enforcement of Michiganders’ civil rights my entire career, and I continue to promote its importance as your Attorney General. Tomorrow, I will be arguing a case before the Michigan Supreme Court that all Michigan residents are entitled to the same civil rights, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It’s easy to forget, in light of the hard-won progress and increased public acceptance LGBTQ+ people have experienced in recent years, that less than a decade has passed since our state and our country legalized same-sex marriage. In 2012, as a private practitioner, I filed DeBoer v. Snyder so that all Michiganders could legally marry who they love. Now, with the confidence of the Michigan electorate behind me, I am arguing Rouch World v. Michigan Dept. of Civil Rights so that no Michigander must experience barriers to employment, housing, education, or public accommodations and services because of who they are or who they love. Don’t underestimate the gravity of this new battle; the fight for marriage equality was to secure a basic right for LGBTQ+ Americans, but this fight for use of public accommodations is to affirm our mere existence. This litigation affirms LGBTQ+ civil rights in Michigan and protects our residents from discrimination. I look forward to presenting the State's argument tomorrow and remain focused on defending the laws that properly reflect the diversity of our vibrant state. Every Michigander is deserving of justice and liberty, and I will continue to fight tirelessly to make that happen.
