Two years sober, here's what saved him]( Marisa Gonzales couldn’t help but question herself. “Am I doing the right thing? Does he really need to go so far away? Is he right and I am overreacting?” During the last four months, she had mostly worked through her denial and was becoming an expert on how hard it is — not just in North Texas, but everywhere — to get help for an adolescent addicted to the most powerful, dangerous and omnipresent street drug in history. She knew it was going to take everything she had, and fast, because soon her son, Colin Temple, would turn 18 and all his choices would be his own. She tightened her grip on the wheel as she drove him to a recovery center in Mississippi and willed herself to stay calm while he yelled at her upon realizing they weren’t going home after his stint in detox as she told him initially.
