‘I am desperate to bring my son home,’ says father of man killed at Allen mall

More than two months after he was killed at Allen Premium Outlets, Cumana has yet to be laid to rest. His cremated remains ride in his 2000 Toyota Corolla, under the watchful eye of his brother as he drives to and from work. An inscription on the wooden urn reads “Desde el cielo tus ojos me guían:” From heaven your eyes guide me. Cumana, 32, was familiar with long journeys. He arrived in the United States in September 2022 seeking asylum from poverty and violence in Venezuela. On May 6, he was shot seven times while shopping for new clothes.
