Crow, chairman of one of North Texas’ most successful private investment firms Crow Holdings, said their friendship was years in the making after the two met at an Washington, D.C., event nearly three decades ago. Their relationship became news after ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative news publication, broke its story about Thomas vacationing in luxury at the expense of Crow for more than two decades without disclosing Crow’s largesse. Last week, ProPublica also revealed Thomas sold his mother’s home in Savannah, Ga., to Crow, but did not disclose the transaction as required by the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.
