He needs no convincing about the uniqueness of the annual game at the Cotton Bowl and the timeless appeal to both schools, nearly 100,000 fans and the city of Dallas. Castiglione’s Texas counterpart, Chris Del Conte, is a far more recent convert to the Red River Showdown. His first game was 2018, shortly after becoming Texas’ AD. A showman by nature, Del Conte can barely contain his admiration for the combination of the State Fair of Texas and football. [The joint admiration for the game is a good thing for the city of Dallas]( and the State Fair, which is now facing negotiations with the schools about extending the current contract beyond its end after the 2025 game.
