(Leon Nguyen / Associated Press) [Amtrak suspends Texas routes as rail strike threat looms]( Amtrak is suspending long-distance trips across the country, including the Texas Eagle route from Chicago to San Antonio through Dallas, because of a nationwide rail worker strike coming as early as Friday, the carrier said Wednesday. Amtrak, the federally owned passenger rail service, operates on the rails owned by the railroad operators that are in a face-off with labor unions over schedules, sick time and attendance policies. That means service could be disrupted even though Amtrak and Amtrak employees are not involved. [Amtrak said Wednesday]( that it will cut long-haul service on its major cross-country routes that may not arrive before a “cooling-off period” between unions and railroads ends and a strike could start at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
