It's [here.]( Campaign signs for Dallas City Council candidates fill the grass areas outside of the Oak Cliff Sub-Courthouse on Monday, April 19, 2021 (Ben Torres / Special Contributor) ELECTIONS [Eight Dallas City Council incumbents win reelection; six races headed to runoffs]( Dallas voters rewarded several of their elected officials with two more years at City Hall while six races will take another month to determine a clear winner. [Eight of 11 incumbents survived challenges to their council seats on Saturday]( based on the final election returns posted around 1 a.m. on Sunday. Council members Carolyn King Arnold, Adam Bazaldua and David Blewett were headed to June 5 runoff elections, based on unofficial results. The three open council races in Districts 2, 11 and 13 also will be decided in June. [Here’s how it looked after polls closed](.   Congressional race: Republican [Susan Wright is in a runoff]( to replace her husband in Congress, Jake Ellzey leads for second spot.  Education: The Dallas ISD board president is on a [path for reelection,]( Richardson ISD’s $750M bond appears to get voter approval.  Collin College: Two [Collin College board incumbents]( are going head to head with opponents according to early results.   Fort Worth: [The Fort Worth mayoral election]( appears headed for a runoff between Mattie Parker, and Deborah Peoples.  Your city: Voters in Plano, Southlake, Arlington and other [North Texas cities chose mayors]( in May 1 election.  ADVERTISEMENT SPORTS [Cowboys’ aggressive expansion on defense sends a clear message]( It remains to be seen how quickly the Cowboys can transform their defense from dreadful to acceptable. A lot of work remains. But the heavy lifting has begun. Eight of the 11 players taken by the club in the NFL draft were on the defensive side of the ball. Add the five defensive veterans signed in free agency, and that’s 13 new players for this unit. Owner Jerry Jones will tell you no message is being sent. But you can bet that every defensive player who was part of the worst statistical season in franchise history is now looking over their shoulder pads. [Notice has been served.](  Mavericks: [Luka Doncic’s triple-double]( powered Dallas past the Wizards and into a 5th-place tie in the West. Horse racing: Bob Baffert earned his seventh Kentucky Derby win, [the most for a trainer at the iconic event]( as Medina Spirit took the 147th run for the roses. Motor sports: Scott Dixon continued his pursuit of IndyCar records with [a runaway win]( in the Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.  ADVERTISEMENT (Ben Torres) PHOTO OF THE WEEKEND [A historic concert]( The Dallas Symphony Orchestra invited 50 out-of-work musicians from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra to join 48 DSO players and four area freelancers in a live performance — with a restricted, masked and socially distanced audience — of Mahler’s First Symphony on Friday. The concert, conducted by DSO music director Fabio Luisi, was [a benefit for the MET Orchestra Musicians Fund and the Dallas-Fort Worth Musicians COVID-19 Relief Fund](. [Number of Texas deaths linked to winter storm grows to 151, including 23 in Dallas-Fort Worth area]( More than 150 Texans died because of February’s winter storm, according to the latest data from the Texas Department of State Health Services. In its latest update, the state health agency said that [151 fatalities have officially been linked to the brutal storm,]( which knocked out power, heat and water to millions of Texans.
