[Dallas seeks to respond to uptick in crime and find a way to tackle troublesome areas](
In one of the last homicides of 2020, 32-year-old Isaac Mozeke was shot by an unknown gunman while taking an evening walk to a convenience store. Murders and aggravated assaults began trending upward in 2015 after years of steady declines, according to a Dallas Morning News analysis. It is one of the reasons why Dallas city leaders consider public safety a top barometer of the state of this city. [Dallas City Council race pits two challengers against incumbent David Blewett](
Dallas City Council member David Blewett must fend off two challengers with vastly different priorities on development and public safety to win reelection to [the District 14 seat in May](.
Blewett, who works in real estate finance, is in his first term representing the mostly white and affluent wishbone-shaped district that includes the northern section of downtown, parts of Oak Lawn and neighborhoods in Old East Dallas.

[Luka Doncic, Mavs complete improbable comeback to defeat Lakers and clinch season series](
Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, shown looking for room to operate while Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schroder defends against him, took a stepback 34-footer that seemed as unlikely to fall as the Mavericks rallying from a 17-point deficit against the Lakers on Saturday. But that’s the thing. The Mavericks had in fact pulled off that rally, so when Doncic’s bomb dropped through the hoop it was a fitting punctuation to a stupendous [Mavericks 108-93 victory Saturday night]( at American Airlines Center. [GameStop’s departing CEO to get over $173 million — after two years on the job](
Business columnist Mitchell Schnurman writes: Has saying goodbye ever been so lucrative? George Sherman, hired as CEO of GameStop Corp. two years ago, is leaving [the Grapevine-based video game retailer]( with an exit package valued at $127 million, according to a regulatory filing.
Sherman also will get a big pay bump in June, about a month before his scheduled departure, when another 308,477 company shares will vest and become his. At GameStop’s closing price of just over $151 a share on Friday, those holdings would be worth roughly $46.6 million. ADVERTISEMENT
