Pool/Staff Photographer) TRANSPORTATION [Dallas’ Margaret McDermott Bridge could be open to pedestrians, bikes by end of year]( The Margaret McDermott Bridge [could be open for people to walk and bike over the Trinity River by the end of December]( authorities say — six years after initially promised. Work is expected to begin this month on the West Dallas bridge to replace the 196 cables and anchors that connect the bridge’s deck to its two arches, said Tony Hartzel, a state Transportation Department spokesman. The pedestrian and bike portions of the bridge had been expected to open in 2017, when installation of the two steel arches was complete, but concerns arose that winds could cause the cables and anchors to fail.
