Republican senators are already lining up for a swift confirmation of Barrett ahead of the Nov. 3 election, as they aim to lock in conservative gains in the federal judiciary before a potential transition of power. The budget — which takes effect Oct. 1 after it passed by a 9-6 vote on Wednesday — contains more than half a billion dollars for police, about 14% of the total package.
