[Trump nominates conservative Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court](
President Donald Trump [nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court]( on Saturday, capping a dramatic reshaping of the federal judiciary that will resonate for a generation and that he hopes will provide a needed boost to his reelection effort.
Republican senators are already lining up for a swift confirmation of Barrett ahead of the Nov. 3 election, as they aim to lock in conservative gains in the federal judiciary before a potential transition of power. Trump, meanwhile, is hoping the nomination will serve to galvanize his supporters as he looks to fend off Democrat Joe Biden.

[Police funding gets a boost, and 4 other things to know about the new Dallas budget](
Now that the city has approved its roughly $4 billion budget, both sides of the heated police funding debate appear unhappy with it.
The budget — which takes effect Oct. 1 after it passed by a 9-6 vote on Wednesday — contains more than half a billion dollars for police, about 14% of the total package.
But it also includes millions of dollars for [programs that promise to improve public safety without police]( and gives a boost to those most in need.

[Howdy, folks! The State Fair's Big Tex Fair Food Drive-Thru weekends open at Fair Park](
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and his son, George, waited for their Fletcher's Corny Dogs during the opening day of the Big Tex Fair Food Drive-Thru on Friday at Fair Park. Johnson and his family were among the 50,000 cars the State Fair of Texas estimates will funnel through the fairgrounds from Sept. 25 through Oct. 18 for the drive-through fair food event. [Stars stave off elimination, force Game 6 with gutsy win over Lightning in double overtime](
The Stars weren’t ready for their season to end. Corey Perry wasn’t ready to go home.
Perry scored the game-winning goal 9:23 into double overtime, [keeping the Stars alive in the Stanley Cup Final by lifting Dallas to a 3-2 double-overtime win]( over Tampa Bay in Game 5 on Saturday night.
The win extended the Stars season for at least two more days, and kept hope alive for the franchise’s second Stanley Cup championship. Dallas now trails the series 3-2 and must win Game 6 on Monday night to force a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday.
