[Judge rules that Dallas City Hall owes gas driller Trinity East more than $44 million](
Dallas City Hall owes gas driller Trinity East Energy $44.5 million — and counting.
That’s according to the final judgment signed Thursday afternoon by Judge Craig Smith, who presided over the recent two-week trial pitting the city against the company that paid Dallas $19 million for the right to drill on parkland and was eventually denied the permits needed to do so.
Earlier this month, a jury found the city liable for negligent misrepresentation, statutory fraud and a regulatory taking, denying them use of the parkland. After five hours of deliberation, [the jury said Dallas owed Trinity East somewhere between $23 million and $33 million in damages](. Smith was ultimately left to determine the final amount.

POLITICS
[Tom Steyer bristles at Mike Bloomberg’s saturation of Texas airwaves](
Progressive California philanthropist Tom Steyer has managed to keep his poll numbers just high enough to remain in the debates but, so far, hasn’t caught a breakthrough.
In Texas, Sen. Bernie Sanders is gaining traction and Mike Bloomberg, the media mogul and former New York mayor, has flooded the airwaves with TV ads, accounting for roughly 80% of all the ads Texans across the state are subjected to on broadcast TV. Sanders and Steyers account for the rest and for Steyer, it’s a bit over the top.
"I don’t think you get to buy a vote and I don’t think you get to buy Texas," he said.
[The two billionaires have a natural, if somewhat one-sided, rivalry](.
Â
Also: [A desire for drastic change]( is driving Texas Latino voters to embrace ‘TÃÂo Bernie’ Sanders.

And: [Barring a Sanders knockout blow]( the fight for Texas could muddle the Democratic race for the White House.

The sickness has been blamed for some 2,800 deaths worldwide and has shocked the markets as concerns rise about the virus’ impact on the global economy. Stocks fell again Friday, making it the worst week for markets since the 2008 financial crisis.

Looking like a true survivor, the Leaning Tower of Dallas is still standing.
[After quite a beating this week]( much of the northeast side of the building is missing chunks of concrete, while the southwest side of the building remains essentially unscathed.
A 5,600-pound wrecking ball on Friday continued to smash the former Affiliated Computer Services building one swing at a time. Despite its weight, the ball looks fairly small from the ground.

FINALLY...
[At historic apartment complex, elevators are broken and climbing stairs is a struggle](
Dave Lieber, The Watchdog, writes:
Back in the day if you told someone you lived in the landmark Maple Terrace Apartments in Uptown Dallas, it meant you probably had a creative, artistic bent, maybe even a little bohemian.
Artists, musicians, designers, museum curators and architects lived at the historic complex, partied there, married there, celebrated there.
Maple Terrace was not only a place to live. It was also an identity in a way few apartment buildings can ever be.
[Now if you tell someone you live at Maple Terrace, it means you’re tough, in shape, stubborn](.
