CRIME AND COURTS [Man guilty of capital murder in Richardson officer’s shooting death](
A 28-year-old man [was found guilty of capital murder Wednesday in the shooting death of a Richardson police officer.]( Jurors will decide next week if Brandon McCall should be executed for the crime.
Both prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed McCall killed Richardson police Officer David Sherrard. In closing arguments, defense attorney Ed "Bubba" King argued that the crime was not capital murder.
"Brandon McCall is solely responsible for the death of Rene Gamez and the death of David Sherrard. We make no bones about it," King said. "He didn’t have the specific intent to kill."
Also: A person [was injured in a shooting early Wednesday]( in northwest Dallas, police say.
And: A security guard [fatally shot a man who attacked him]( in west Oak Cliff, police say.

[Southwest Airlines’ ‘bet-the-company decision:' Should it stick with Boeing’s 737?](
Southwest Airlines’ looming decision on its commitment to Boeing’s 737 jet isn’t getting any easier.
As nearly 700 of Boeing’s 737 Max planes sit idle, [the challenges to getting it back in the air keep piling up]( including software glitches, wiring harnesses and questions about pilot training requirements. Boeing estimates the plane won’t be certified to fly again until mid-2020. With another two or three months for pilots and maintenance, it will likely be at least 18 months since Southwest last had those planes available for peak travel seasons.

Data scientist John Biggan this week accused rival Kim Olson, a retired Air Force colonel, [of "saying one thing to one group and another to a different group for political gain."](

If you remember anything about the spay-neuter surge launched three years ago in neighborhoods overrun with dangerous loose dogs, it’s most likely the privately funded campaign’s audacious target -- to perform 46,000 free surgeries annually in southern Dallas.
So how did they do? With the $16 million effort winding down, [I got the first chance to see the near-final numbers.](
