[Morning roundup]( 11/17/2019 By Mallorie Sullivan and Carla Solórzano Good morning! Here is a look at the top headlines of the weekend so far. 🌤️Weather: Partly to mostly sunny. High of 64. 🔎 Prefer the online view? It's [here.]( Brandon Gonzales sits on the back of his stepfather's truck outside his mother's home Saturday in Poinciana, Florida. (Phelan M. Ebenhack/Special Contributor) NEWS [Freed after mass shooting arrest, Greenville native puts 1,000 miles between him and infamy]( Brandon Gonzales moved halfway across the country last weekend, leaving behind his three young children, his girlfriend and the town he grew up in. He hopes the distance will let him escape the unwanted notoriety he experienced after authorities mistakenly accused him of killing two party-goers in a mass shooting outside Greenville last month. Gonzales, 23, said he just wants to work. But when he went to an interview Monday for a job at a warehouse in Florida, he said the interviewer told him: Let’s wait a year to let this settle down. "I mean, who can wait a year without a job?" [Gonzales said in his first extensive interview since his release from the Hunt County jail.](  Also: A veteran Dallas police officer was arrested Saturday [on a charge of tampering with physical evidence](.   And: James Graham, a key figure in bringing the 1994 World Cup to Dallas, [died of a heart attack on Wednesday](.  ADVERTISEMENT METRO [UNT’s response to suspected rapes sounded like a joke — but here’s why it might work]( Metro columnist Sharon Grigsby writes: Did my eyes just tell me that the University of North Texas is letting a known rapist run free with only an admonition to not return to campus? That was my rush to judgment — and it likely was yours — when you read the news about UNT police’s crime alert regarding two sexual assault incidents and the banning of an unnamed suspect from school property. It turns out that the cases, like so many involving sexual violence, [are much more nuanced than was apparent to outsiders]( who saw the Oct. 9 message on social media. Also: The Texas Medical Board [has suspended the license of a North Texas physician]( following his arrest on charges of child sex assault and drug possession.   And: A woman was in critical condition [after she was mauled by three dogs at a Red Bird park]( Friday morning, and police arrested the dogs’ owner.   (Juan Figueroa/Staff Photographer) ADVERTISEMENT PHOTO OF THE WEEKEND [Review: The Black Keys gave fans exactly what they wanted at Dickies Arena]( Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys performs as part of the band’s "Let’s Rock" tour Thursday night at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Over the course of the Ohio-born rock group’s 90-minute performance, Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney provided service with a smile: Mainstream radio hits, deep cuts, fresh songs not even a year old and tunes old enough to have their own driver’s licenses [were professionally served in a manner engineered for five-star Yelp ratings.]( AROUND THE SITE - Transportation: Lyft [is pulling its electric scooters out of Dallas]( on Friday. - Politics: Former U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions of Dallas [was reportedly considered to replace Marie Yovanovitch]( as ambassador to Ukraine after he lobbied for her ouster. - Food: [Five more locations of]( Biscuit Bar]( are expected to open across North Texas by early 2020. FINALLY... [A makeover for dilapidated stretches of NW Dallas could be the silver lining after tornado]( City columnist Robert Wilonsky writes: Mike Hopkins drives to Marsh and Walnut Hill lanes every day to look at what remains of the shopping centers he owns at that intersection. But he knows there’s no good reason for him to make this trip. The area looks today just as it has since 140-mph winds carved a vicious path through this part of Dallas one month ago. Four days after the storm, council member Jennifer Staubach Gates and I walked the length of the shopping center that counted among its tenants two dollar stores and a pawn shop. And as we did, [Gates imagined what might one day replace this antiquated strip and its sprawl of cracked concrete.](  👋 That's all for this morning!
