[NAACP legal defense fund calls for independent investigation into death of key witness in Amber Guyger trial](
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund called for an independent investigation of the shooting death of Joshua Brown, who was a witness in the case of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, as his slaying Friday touched off an outcry around the country.
Brown's death came days after Guyger, a white officer who was off duty, was convicted and sentenced 10 years for murder in the death of Botham Jean, a black man whom Guyger shot in his own apartment last year. After Brown was fatally shot at an apartment complex on Cedar Springs Road, some raised questions about whether the shooting was tied to his testimony.
Sherrilyn Ifill, president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, [said state or federal authorities should take over the investigation]( in a statement released Sunday evening.
"The circumstances surrounding the murder of Mr. Brown cries out for answers," Ifill said in a statement. "Most importantly, it demands an independent investigation of how and why he was killed."

[What Democrats and Republicans are doing to win the pivotal women's vote in the 2020 elections](
In 2020, when women will have had the right to vote in U.S. elections for 100 years, their voices and their votes will be in high demand.
Women made up 53% of all voters in the country in 2018, helping Democrats retake the U.S. House. In Texas, where they also make up a large share of the electorate, women in 2018 helped elect three Democratic women to Texas' congressional delegation, including the state's first two Latina congresswomen, [and were key to Democrats flipping 12 seats in the Texas House.](
"Women are going to decide the next elections," said Cecile Richards, a longtime pro-choice activist and the daughter of the late former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, a Democrat.
In May, Cecile Richards co-founded Supermajority, a national womenâs civic engagement organization, to encourage women to vote and run for office. While Democrats are building a community of support for the women who became politically engaged in 2018, more Republican women are running for office and calling for their male-dominated party to modernize their messages to women voters.

[Flea Style's upcoming launch at The Star tests Frisco's desire for artisan shopping](
When 12,000 people swarmed The Star in Frisco a year ago for an outdoor pop-up flea market, Brittany Cobb knew she had found a second home for her artisan clothing boutique.
But she also knew the concept that makes Flea Style popular in gritty Deep Ellum in Dallas would have to be retooled if it was going to work in shiny and new Frisco. The fast-growing, family-friendly city is known for its large homes, stellar schools and a high-profile development thatâs home to the most valuable professional sports team in the world, the Dallas Cowboys.
So she set out to create a store that could draw not only city-girl shoppers but also stylish suburban moms looking to incorporate vintage decor into newly built living spaces.

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones taunts Dallas Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones with a "bye-bye" wave as he speeds toward the corner of the end zone for a touchdown, his third of four on the day, to give the Packers a 24-0 lead midway through the third quarter Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. [Arlington ISD has a smart, new approach to preventing the next mass shooting](
From The Dallas Morning News Editorial Board:
With the assistance of a federal grant from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, the Arlington Police Department, Tarrant Countyâs mental health services and the school district recently formed a comprehensive threat assessment team whose sole task each day is to assess social media threats, bullying, classroom conduct and other behaviors that could put teachers and students in danger.
No system is perfect. Arlington has more than 60,000 students scattered across numerous campuses. But in many cases, outward signs that a student is heading down the wrong path are evident. What Arlington has done is [create a system that can corral those incidents before they advance.](
This smart approach taps professional resources across the community in a way that they can intervene before a threat arrives on a schoolâs doorstep.
