Here is a look at the top headlines of the day  [Evening roundup]( 08/16/2019 By Todd Davis Good Evening! Here is a look at the top headlines of the day. 🔎 Prefer the online view? It's [here.]( The Plano ISD building on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019. Plano ISD Superintendent of Schools Sara Bonser held a press conference to address the previously cancelled football game between Plano Senior High and Eastwood High School of El Paso. (Lynda M. Gonzalez/Staff Photographer) SPORTS [Football game between Plano Senior High and El Paso Eastwood is back on at new site]( Plano Senior High's football game against El Paso Eastwood is back on after a day of statewide backlash, but it will be played at The Star in Frisco. At a Plano ISD news conference Friday afternoon, district superintendent Sara Bonser announced that the game was reinstated, just over 24 hours after the district had canceled the matchup, citing timing and safety concerns. Bonser reiterated during Friday afternoon's conference that the original decision to cancel the game was made out of safety concerns for students, players, families and the communities. The game was reinstated, she said, because they were pleased with the level of safety The Star offers. [She said the public backlash did not impact the reversal.]( Also: [The Cowboys' LT Tyron Smith]( will miss Saturday's preseason game with the Rams with a stiff back. ADVERTISEMENT CRIME AND COURTS [Dallas grand jury indicts 4 men in drug-related slaying of 13-year-old Shavon Randle]( Four men accused of kidnapping and killing a 13-year-old Lancaster girl in retaliation for a drug deal-turned-robbery face new charges in the 2017 slaying. A Dallas County grand jury indicted the men — Darius Jamal Fields, Desmond Armond Jones, Laquon Dishon Wilkerson and Devontae Dasean Owens — on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity. [The new indictments were filed Thursday]( according to court records implicating them all in Shavon Randle's murder.   Also: [Dallas police]( have seized 200 guns as a summer campaign aims to stem violence.   And: [A feud between Instagram rivals]( led to the shooting that killed a 9-year-old Dallas girl.  RESTAURANTS [At Gemelle, Tim Love's long-awaited restaurant in Fort Worth, the struggle is real]( Restaurant critic Michalene Busico writes: For his latest venture, Fort Worth celebrity chef Tim Love has created an Insta-worthy summer set piece: a small, stylish restaurant and bar perched on a grassy slope in the River District, with a Tex-Italian menu and a swooping backyard filled with two decks, a bar, a vegetable and herb garden, pingpong and foosball tables, and more. Let me share some snapshots from a night at Gemelle. On my first visit, a balmy Saturday about six weeks after the opening, every space in the parking lot is taken, and both sides of the road up to the restaurant are lined with cars. Gemelle doesn't do reservations, so when you see this, your heart sinks a little. It's gonna be a long wait. [But that wasn't the only aspect of the Gemelle experience that earned the restaurant a 1/2 star review](.  Also: The 48-year-old iconic Dallas restaurant [Char Bar]( is actually closing after hints of its end.   And: [Cowboy Chicken]( has reopened in Dallas after its kitchen fire.  ADVERTISEMENT (Ryan Michalesko/Staff Photographer) PHOTO OF THE DAY The remains of 2426 Pine St., referenced in Robert Wilonsky's column Friday about a landmark house in South Dallas that burned to the ground, [erasing 114 years' worth of history](. The house, once the centerpiece of 289 acres of farmland and only two decades ago the cause célèbre of Dallas preservationists, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1995. "Even in poor shape you could tell a rich family had built and lived in this home," Wilonsky writes. And now, this house — which appeared on Preservation Dallas' first-ever list of Dallas' most-endangered historic structures — is no more." Yes, and [a batch of new store openings](. FINALLY... [Lincoln grad's story is one you don't hear often enough about Dallas ISD students]( Metro columnist Sharon Grigsby writes: Every student, teacher, support staffer and leader headed into the new school year should hear Dallas ISD grad Cameasha Turner tell her story. Turner grew up in a toxic mix of poverty and violence only to graduate from Notre Dame Law School in May and join a Dallas law firm. While her phenomenal success is hardly unique among Dallas students, it’s understandable if you think otherwise. That’s because we don’t share narratives such as hers nearly often enough. Now 25 years old, Turner didn’t want to talk to me in order to toot her own horn — but because she has a message for all those students whose upbringing is similar to hers: [Don’t believe you are stuck in your current circumstances for life](. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Don’t think your story makes you less than others. "The one reason I share my story is because of students at DISD," she said. "Someone who looks like them, who comes from where they come from, made it out." 👋 That's all for this afternoon! For up-to-the-minute news and analysis, check out [DallasNews.com](. Share the love!
