[Drug suspects arrested by Amber Guyger get a pass, thanks to her murder case](
Prosecutors [have dismissed at least nine cases that Amber Guyger investigated]( when she was still a Dallas police officer, months before she shot and killed Botham Jean in his home.
Dallas County prosecutors in one case wrote that they were seeking the dismissal because the fired officer was "indicted for murdering an innocent man in his own home," court records show.
Four dismissed cases stem from the arrest of two men during a January 2018 traffic stop by Guyger and another officer. Three were drug charges. The fourth, unlawfully carrying a weapon, was also dismissed and the gun was returned. But prosecutors' motion to dismiss that case was not found in the court file.
Judges have dismissed at least five additional cases at prosecutors' request since the shooting where Guyger was the arresting officer, court records show. But prosecutors did not reference Guyger in their motions to dismiss the cases. Most of those are also drug cases.

[Empty progressive promises are fueling politics at Dallas City Hall](
From The Dallas Morning News Editorial Board:
Whatâs more cliche than an empty promise in campaign season?
A progressive bloc of Dallas City Council members delivered just that to cityâs poor Wednesday, sitting on a moral high horse and thundering demands of equality and fairness at â well at whom exactly?
Led by mayoral candidate Scott Griggs and council member Philip Kingston, the council voted 10-4 to give City Hall the power to force all businesses in the city to offer paid sick leave to employees.
[The vote was not based in reality, however]( â something all 10 council members should have known as they delivered an empty symbol to a council chamber filled with activists for organized labor, democratic socialists and a group that raises funds to provide abortions to low-income women.

[Jon Machota's 7-round Cowboys mock draft: Dallas lands versatile defenders, Ezekiel Elliott's new backup](
If the Cowboys don't swing any trades, they'll be making only six picks in this weekend's draft. That's their lowest total since 2010 when they drafted six players but also used a seventh-round supplemental pick on defensive tackle Josh Brent.
Over the last three years, they've had nine picks in each draft.
One way to gain another selection would be trading back from No. 58, if there are several players available that are graded relatively the same.
For this draft exercise, though, [we'll have Dallas keeping the six picks it currently owns.](

[From highest peaks to ocean deeps, Dallas businessman Victor Vescovo is making history](
Roughly 4 miles under the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, Victor Vescovo descended in an airtight titanium ball inside a state-of-the-art submersible and trained its bright lights on the moonlike floor below.
The 53-year-old Dallas businessman and lifelong adventurer was likely the first person to lay eyes on the expanse before him.
His Five Deeps Expedition is exploring the deepest points of each of Earth's five oceans. When Vescovo completes the ambitious undertaking, it will put him in the history books as the first to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents, ski to the North and South poles, and reach the deepest ocean depths.
He's finished off three dives. [Next week's descent to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench is his most daunting â and dangerous â yet.](
