Heading up the escalator to the church’s worship center, people looked out a wall of windows at [the church’s historic sanctuary, partially collapsed]( after a four-alarm fire two weeks earlier. People stared with pensive and wistful expressions at the scorched brick walls encased in scaffolding and empty frames that held stained glass windows, some snapping photos on their phones.
