From the BLACKLIT bookstore in Farmers Branch, poet Troâjuan Henderson led 15 dads, including his own father who was seated next to Shaw, in an emotional event last year where the men delved into what they resented, appreciated and misunderstood about their fathers growing up. Henderson opened by reading a poem, which Shaw said functioned to air out what was âkind of like a smoky room. When you open that window and the smoke goes out, itâs like, âOK, now I can see across the room.â It made it easy for everybody to just speak freely.â Shaw said Hendersonâs dad had a âglowing smileâ of pride as Henderson read.
