The diversity of ideas and beliefs that divided you from one another ideologically likely still exists, but you may now perceive these differences as no threat to your own convictions. This open-minded approach to interpersonal relationships will no doubt help you develop a greater degree of tolerance today, as you may see no reason at all to stand in judgment where the needs of loved ones and peers are concerned. Acceptance is often the first step on the path of tolerance, as we must acknowledge that others have the right to think and feel differently before we can fully adopt an attitude of true open-mindedness. Though we may not fully understand why the people around us have chosen to pursue the paths they now tread, we can respect their choices and give them all of the support that it is within our power to give. They will appreciate our willingness to observe their actions without interfering and will more than likely afford us the same degree of consideration as a consequence. Even when we feel tempted to intervene in the lives of others, we should remember that what is right for us will not necessarily be right for all.
